Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanHot water for shower sometimes didn't work well. Also,it'd be better if there is a kettle to boil water.
It's very natural place and I could see a lot of stars in the sky. We can rent a bike from this hostal. Also, it's possible to buy drinks included alcohole. We joined a tour from 5am, however the host, Elvira, made breakfast snack to go for us. She's so kind and sweet.

United KingdomClean, well furnished room and great atmosphere outside - hammocks, lots of places to sit. Elvira and her daughters were so attentive and thoughtful, anticipated our needs and took care of the small things. Very handy to have a well equipped kitchen - we cooked there every night. We didn’t mind the short walk to town at all.

United KingdomAlthough we read it was a bit out of the town we didn’t realise quite how difficult this would be - none of the tour agencies would pick us up from the hostel.
We had a clean and comfortable room. The breakfast was nice and the hammocks were fun to relax in.

United KingdomWiFi didn't reach bedroom so its worth checking this. The hostel is a, bit further away from centre of town but this wasn't a huge issue.
Wonderful rooms, nice hammocks and calm feel, great breakfast. Bike rental is very handy and so was the car parking!

PortugalJust the fact that you cannot pay with a card, only with cash or bank transfer.
Mrs. Elvira, who attended to us, was very sweet and attentive, always in a good mood and with a smile on her face. Although it is located far from the town's center, the hotel is like a refuge, there is not much movement and it is very peaceful. It is possible to rent bicycles to go faster to the town centre, although we didn't rent one, we went on foot. They seemed to be doing some work to improve the space, but more improvements were needed in the surroundings. The street needed to be significantly improved, but it's not the hotel's fault. I highly recommend it if you want to spend a few days, there is parking for your car. TIP for travellers: San Pedro de Atacama seems to be a calm place, there is a lot to see and getting around by car seems to be a much more pleasant option than rushing around on tours. Shower water is hot during the day, and at night it takes a little longer to heat up. Self-service breakfast and complete. Elvira kindly prepared the table for us each morning.

SpainHostel is on the edge of town, which is not an issue in itself, but getting there if it is your first time in San Pedro can be challenging as directions around town are not always clear

United KingdomInternet didn't work in the room. However, it works in communal areas well enough to have some work calls, if need be. (As long as there isn't heavy streaming by other guests). Sometimes, there was no hot water.
The hostess Elvira was incredibly hospitable. Helped us out throughout our stay with a big smile. Breakfast is good, too, and it has lactose-free milk! They went above and beyond to help. In the communal area, the hammocks are great. The room was clean and had a fan; the bed was very comfy :) The location is slightly out of town (about 20 min walk) and most travel agencies wouldn't do pick-ups there. But it is still a great location if you are looking for peace of mind and stargazing!!!

ChileFinding the accommodation can be tricky - I recommend that the host update the listing to include a map of how to get there from town. It's also a little out of the way (out of town). The distance wasn't a problem for us (we had a car and happily walked it many times together) but my partner reports that they wouldn't necessarily feel safe walking from town alone.
Really enjoyed our stay. Our hostess was super helpful and professional. The room was great - very comfortable. The adobe construction meant that the room was a pleasant temperature during the warm day and cold nights. The communal areas (hammocks, courtyard, and kitchen) were great.

United StatesRoom was mid, walls were super thin and it was kinda noisy at night. The gate got locked after we went out for the night and we had to call to try and get back in. There was limited service and bad wifi it was not a good experience. We again had this issue trying to leave early for a flight, despite warning the landlady the night before. They required a cash payment but didn't let us know beforehand and so we were unprepared and had to use the ATM in town which we had not wanted to do and would have avoided otherwise.
Breakfast was good. Landlady was nice but spoke almost no English. Location was okay, walkable but not ideal. Free parking was nice.
