Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The staff were very friendly and helped with anything I needed. They let me keep my bags in a locked room while I waited for my next hostel. Much appreciated! Facilities were all clean!

What did I like ? Everything ! Such a clean, confortable hostel with amazing host. I extended my stay for two nights. The hostel has a very friendly, chill vibe - easy to connect with other travellers. Some nights you'll have music, people coming to sing, i was offered to do some surf (which was amazing), ... Recommend 100%. I will myself go back to this hostel if/when I come back to Valparaiso.

Probably a general Valpo issue but lots of noise pollution from cars / motorcycles driving past at all hours, and a nearby other place (or possibly the hostel roof - we couldn’t tell!) having parties until 2-3am quite often. Not always a problem but not for light sleepers
Good location partially up one of Valpo’s hills - easy to access paseos and nearby restaurants and bars. Pretty good cooking facilities. Nice and helpful staff

The bathroom needed updating, the shower was very nice but you had to be careful not to flood the bathroom. I had a disagreement with the staff before arriving about the necessity to pay tax as a foreign traveller, they could have been more polite.
We stayed for just one night. It’s a perfect location, the room and bed are comfortable.

The shower was tiny and not always warm.

Bathrooms were a bit old, but still good hot water and not a huge issue.
Excellent social feel, great kitchen. Fun location and staff, yet still a quiet hostel to sleep in. Dorm rooms were large, airy and great!

The shower could use a update/real good deep clean in the tiling.
The location is fantastic close to lots of highlights. The common area upstairs was great, the staff spend a lot of time there and are very friendly, and the kitchen is clean and well equipped.

Nothing! It was all great!
We stayed in the double bedroom with a private bathroom and it was a lovely huge room with a really comfortable bed. The bathroom was also really spacious. We enjoyed our stay, good location and the shared area for cooking and relaxing were great. Staff were also really friendly and helpful.

each bed only has one standard USB charging port. if you have other types of chargers like USB-C or have multiple devices you have to go hunting for other sockets
nice communal space upstairs, old Nintendo gaming system, beds are very comfortable, friendly staff

Many stairs ;)
Amazing hostel, good vibes, great people. Staff cleaned every day, no dirt in bathrooms. Very secure. Staff got me a lower bunk bed that I needed. Really big kitchen and common area. Good location.
