Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The property wasn’t far from the centre and the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay very comfortable. The packed lunch to send us on our way to Bolivia was a very nice touch too.

United KingdomOur room was very dark as by the dining room. But we were not there much. Also could hear dogs barking at night. Not that was the fault of the hotel.
Very welcoming owners and loved that they offered free tea and coffee all day. The bed was comfortable, nice shower, breakfast was good and lots of areas to hangout on different levels. The best part was having free access to the bikes which were okay, with helmets and hi vis jackets. On our final morning they made us a packed breakfast to take with us which was very appreciated. The pool area was very nice, but pool not quite hot enough for us in early March.

IrelandThe property is kept to the highest standards, it’s spotless and the rooms are really comfortable. Rodrigo is always around making sure everyone is happy. We arrived on New Year’s Eve and he gifted us with a bottle of Prosecco and made sure we had a packed breakfast to take on day trips which were earlier than breakfast time - these small thinks make a huge difference! I highly recommend this accommodation. Thanks for everything Rodrigo :)

NetherlandsNothing!
Very quiet hostal on the edge of San Pedro de Atacama. Very clean, they cleaned our rooms every day, even folded our clothes, that were hanging on the chair. At first, the location seems quite far from the city (~15-20 min walk). But the centre of San Pedro is very dusty (unpaved streets with lots of traffic). This hostal is a bit further away, but the air seems a lot cleaner. Also you can call a taxi for 3,000 CLP, so it is perfectly solvable!

United StatesThe TV was dicey, but it was more the fault of the TV provider not the hostal. Plus, you're not in Atacama to watch TV anyway.
Everything that was promised in the promotional materials was delivered. Location was not too close or too far from the town center. The Breakfast was far better than a standard continental one. Great variety. Felt like they would have baked us a wedding cake if we asked them to. The language barrier was really more fun than it was frustrating and OUR fault for not learning more Spanish. We would unreservedly recommend this place to future visitors.

United KingdomWe just liked it - we hope to come back some time.
We cannot thank enough the staff of Illauca de Atacama for their kindness and help in a difficult situation. You have all been brilliant! The hostel itself is very comfortable, in a quiet part of the town, but within easily walkable distance to the centre (about 10-minute walk at normal pace). It has lovely communal areas for chilling. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise, too!

IrelandThey don't refill toilet paper if you don't ask, but it is ok every time I asked for anything I was rapidly attended.
The hostal is very clean, the hosts(Leticia and Jose) are very helpful. In comparison with what you can get in San Pedro with that price or a little higher I can say Illauca is a 5 stars hostal. I was in two hotels before Illauca, one far away from center and the other one impossible to stay because it was super dirty. So after 3 days on these hotels expending a lot of money I found Illauca and I can say it was a great surprise for us. The details on their brand is amazing, personalized towels, comfortable bad, very cute decoration. The hosts are very responsive, I have to left my luggage earlier and we needed to wash our clothes they provided those services. I recommend this hostel 100%, the distance from the Caracoles is imperceptible, as in the way you can find nice markets to buy something and nice restaurants for evening snack, lunch or dinner. It is a simple place but provid everything you need to a great stay in Atacama.

New ZealandJose and his staff were kind and friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our changing plans, and multitude of questions. Our room was clean and comfortable. The swimming pool and outside areas were great to relax from early morning on the upstairs terrace to the afternoon by the pool and shaded area. There were bikes to ride if you wanted to explore further with helmets, high vis jackets and locks supplied if you wanted to stop in town. Great restaurant down the road 'el Diablillo with great food and music. Breakfast at the hostel was fresh and tasty every day. A really pleasant stay. Thank you. GermanyFirst of all we would recommend you not to stay there. The facilities are not as on the pictures. We had a room with water on the wall and some dirty parts. The breakfast will not be served sometimes, the owner will finish it sometimes earlier when he is in charge of the breakfast and it is very limited per person for example only one toast per person. The pool is not cold it is really cold because the sun doesn’t heat it up at all, you can’t swim there and it has a lot of animals in there. Moreover other couples didn’t even get breakfast, due to the fact that they have planned a tour but the tour was cancelled so they had time for it. But the owner refused them to get to the breakfast by locking the doors. There was definitely enough left for them! At our end of the stay the owner didn’t let us wait in the hotel for our airport transfer even at the reception area! He got really angry and wanted to charge us a late check out for waiting at the reception. Then he pushed us out of the hostel really really angry. So we had to stay in the midday sun without shade to wait for our transfer. Luckily the transfer was only 30 minutes later … furthermore he cancelled us, because we paid cash and so we couldn’t do any review at the beginning. And we heard the same from other people. So don’t believe the other comments some might be fake, some could be right. But we can’t recommend this place at all.
