How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBeautiful view, friendly staff, quiet neighborhood but close to the city center and restaurants nearby.
Curtains were not the best and the temperature of the bedroom when I got there was very low even though the heater was turned on later in the evening.

Verified reviewThis is a charming property, located conveniently in Castro. The room was comfortable and the bathroom typical (tub/shower). We had a nice little balcony overlooking the water and enjoyed watching the birds. The breakfasts were typical — good enough, but nothing special. Parking is on the street, but that wasn’t hard. Overall, a good value.
We missed having a host on site, and no one spoke English. We had to negotiate our arrival time around staff departure.

Verified reviewI liked it has lots of natural materials and the view from our room, the shared kitchen with water filter.
Breakfast was in a counted amount per person. Expensive as many things in chile.

Verified reviewThe staff and possibilities of things you can do.
The price was quite high for a family room where the suitcase doesn't fit. Rather there are people or bags in the room. Price wise was too expensive for the experience.

Verified reviewWe absolutely loved this hostel. We had room 8 with a beautiful view and a private terrace. We spent our entire rest day here enjoying the restful atmosphere and watching the tide go in and out. We made use of the lovely common spaces in the hostel as well. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in Chile, with hearty homemade seed bread, fresh fruit and yogurt, and eggs made to order. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Nothing

Verified reviewPicturesque location. Excellent varied breakfast.
Near impossible to get a constant temperature in shower, possibly due to on demand hot water heater.

Verified reviewThe hostal is one of the traditional palafito buildings in Castro. Despite being constructed entirely of wood it is surprisingly quiet inside and you don't really hear other people at all. It is a small very friendly place and staff are very welcoming and helpful. The room had a lovely balcony with seaview and was very light and airy. It was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was rather of the old fashioned type but everything worked perfectly. It's definitely worth booking the rooms with a balcony as you get the best view of the estuary throughout the day. The breakfast was very good with home made products and food cooked to order. I would definitely recommend this hostal to others.
The hostal is very close to a busy bridge with lots of traffic but it is quite quiet at night. The location is 10 to 15 minutes walk from the town centre up a very steep hill. There are however plenty of taxis which are not so expensive.

Verified reviewThe hostel is placed in a wonderful part of the city, a bay with all these palafitos. The hostel has a kitchen that you can use to prepare your meals and a wonderful terrace just outside the kitchen and few meters above sea level.

Verified reviewThis is a great place to stay in Castro. Nice location, great staff, in particular Pamela was amazingly helful and kind, very comfortable beds, nice breakfast and beautifully decorated common areas. The two rooms with views on the bay are also beautiful, the other rooms have not the same charm but are very convenient. We loved this place and would come back any time!

Verified reviewAfter a long day, it was very pleasant to be welcomed by such a friendly staff with such energy. The rooms were perfect for what we needed with super comfortable beds. As every other review says, the breakfast is fantastic, the homemade bread and marmalade were delicious! With a superb view to enjoy it from. To note: There is a communal kitchen area for potential simple cooking and a terrace to enjoy the view. Finally, I was able to do well-needed laundry in the evening and have it back early morning. Superb!

Verified reviewIncredibly nice staff. Pamela and Viviana are taking care and are outstanding. Nice, clean room, calm, cozy atmosphere, kitchen well equipped, very good breakfast
Only thing to be improved is the temperature control of the warm water. Either VERY hot or cold. But no real issue, we learned how to manage

Verified reviewIdea of sleeping in a room on woorden stelts
Breackfast was poor. But no use of creditscards was possible. Only US dollars in cash are accepted and on top they are very picky wich one they like or not. No telling of that upfront. Given the price of a room it is surprising only cash money is accepted and rthat is ather shamefull.
