How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

It was average. The hostel was in a creepy place, and it was scary to walk from the subway to the hostel in the evening. The room was dark, damp, and humid. My clothes smelled of dampness. The window faced the wall, so it was always dark. The air conditioner's external unit, even when it was turned off, constantly made noise and banged at night, making it difficult to sleep. I was given a bed right under the air conditioner. My roommates constantly turned it on, and the cold air blew into my ear. this caused conflicts with us. The hotel has a washing machine, but no dryer, and no iron. There is no disposable set of slippers and shower products. The hostel does not have towels. I do not recommend it

Verified reviewIt was actually possible to book this hostel. Many others were impossible due to mismatches between Chinese and Western apps. Location is okay, close enough to a Metro station and not too difficult to find. Line 2 blue. Lama temple, exit B. Out, then follow the road and turn R L R at the intersections - five mins walk. The desk is open 24/7 so early morning checkout is possible. Definitely go to the "Mutianyu" great wall section, it is seriously impressive. You don't need a guide or an organised trip. Just go by yourself. Leave early morning, meet and join the other travellers doing the same thing along the way. Great day out. Get to blue line 2 Dongzhimen exit B. Find and take the 916 express bus (or the standard 916 if you can't find the express stop) then A23 or A24 bus. Get out at the roundabout stop. Then turn left into the carpark. Exit carpark on walking path on right near big "you are here" type sign and then short walk up to the entry. Buy the ticket that includes shuttle bus and cable car return. Take 3 litres of water and snacks. "Alipay" app has a transportation tab that has a Beijing metro card AND a Beijing bus card 👍
The attitude of the staff was short and curt, bordering on impolite. This is not usually a problem in China, usually the service industry workers are friendly and polite. No bath towel is provided. Not even a disposable one. No cold drinking water dispenser that I could find. There is a hot one though. No privacy curtains on the bunk beds. No individual lighting. The WiFi is wayyyyy too weak, it seriously needs an massive upgrade. The room doors have a loud confirmation voice that says in Chinese "Hello, door unlocked" and then "Door locked" or something to that effect, this is totally unnecessary and extremely annoying when you are trying to sleep! The floor is polished tiles that become as slippery as ice when wet - be very careful! The designated area to hang your washed clothes out to dry is in the rain! Highly inconvenient.... There are no actual bathrooms. Each individual shower door opens straight into the hallway. Each individual toilet door opens into the hallway too. The sinks and mirrors are in the hallway. Not a problem for boys, but not the best situation for girls. There are not enough toilets! Too many guests, not enough toilets. This results in people using the showers as urinals out of desperation which is pretty gross and adds to the next problem... The cleaners do NOT do a very good job of cleaning the shower that has plastic mats. If the other showers are in use you are forced to use this one, and unless you want to shower with the revolting smell of accumulated urine you have to clean the entire shower properly yourself first - clean the walls and then lift the plastic mats and clean underneath them thoroughly. Not pleasant. This is a combination of the lack of toilets, bad design of the shower and laziness on the part of the cleaners - which makes you wonder what other shortcuts they are taking... The air conditioning.

Verified reviewYou already know that this is not a luxury accommodation, but because of that, it attracts the best type of tourists. I met legendary people here. Everything you need is purchasable, including breakfast and a decent selection of beer. The location was great, I fell in love with Beijing. Despite the poor rating, the wifi was okay for me.
The room door loudly announces itself whenever someone opens it, which is guaranteed to wake you up. The main bathroom area is cramped, so that everyone will hear any toilet noises.

Verified reviewOnly booked this hostel because the one I wanted to stay at closed.
One of the worst hostels I’ve stayed at during my travels, doesn’t even provide toilet paper
Sorry, our public restroom provides toilet paper. Can't you find it?

Verified reviewNice location right next to the lama temple and close to the subway (5 min walk). They provide a lot of drinks and food and breakfast for a small price, so you don’t have to find a supermarket for small things. The staff was friendly and helpful!
It is not the cleanest hostel I’ve stayed at. The room was quite small for 4 people, but we had our own bathroom. For a few days it was fine, would stay here again just for the price! But expect nothing fancy.

Verified reviewStaff was friendly and the location good. The hostel is located in an alley, looks a bit weird first but it's safe there. I had a bit trouble finding it, the lication ln booking is different, make sure you copy &paste the chinese address when ordering a didi. The little kiosk at reception was great to get some snacks and drinks when needed. I loved the working air condition!
The building is very old and the bathrooms deserve renovation but all over it's fine for a few days and the staff cleaned regularly.
