How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFrom the moment we arrived at the coffee shop below the Hostel, we were warmly welcomed and offered any help that we required including helping carry our bags up to our room. The room and facilities are great value for money so if you're looking for an affordable place to stay in Xi'an that is close to everything, then I highly recommend East Coast Coffee Inn.

Verified reviewThe staff is very nice. Our train was late at night, she waited for us until very late. She gave us clear instructions on how to get to the room, and good suggestions on exploring around. The location is very good and quiet. The value is is good for family and a group of friends.
The bathroom is tiny. There is not enough table space and chairs.

Verified reviewHelpful and accomodating English-speaking staff, comfortable room which I didn't want to leave, location within the historic city walls so not too far from all the places you want to see. There's a lovely beer and BBQ joint next door. Of the two places I stayed in Xi'an, this was definitely the best!

Verified reviewWe had the best time at East Coast Coffee Inn. The owners are the sweetest people! We had a delay in our flight and they stayed up till very late at night just to make sure that everything was okay with us and that we were fine. They helped us to book tickets for the main attractions, gave us advice on what to see, and were so kind that we really were sorry to leave so soon. We stayed in a bunk bed room for 4 but we also had a glimpse of other rooms and they all looked so nice! The mattresses are futon but comfortable even for people who are not used to it. We felt so welcomed, we really hope to one day come back for a longer stay! Super recommended :)

Verified reviewStaff were great and very accommodating. Only negative I have is that the mattresses are a bit thin. Otherwise, everything is great, very central to attractions and lots of restaurants around in the area. Definitely recommended.

Verified reviewGreat communication from staff. Really helpful
No hot water or towel for shower.
Thank you for your feedback. Our hotel offers 24-hour hot water and there are free towels on the shelf in the bathroom. It seems you didn't notice them. However, we don't provide large bath towels. If you are used to using large bath towels, it is recommended that you bring your own. Wish you a happy day every day!

Verified reviewFriendly young girl let us in. Near to ancient wall.
Room was cold first night (weren't advised to use the heater rather than aircon) Couldn't get in, had to ask restaurant owner to ring for us. Room was pretty but bed linen was cheap and not warm enough
Hello, thank you for your comment, the remote control of our air conditioner is all in Chinese, and the remote control is placed in the room. Some foreigners complained that they could not read Chinese and it was inconvenient to operate the air conditioner, so I specially put an electric heater with simple operation in your room, and I also told you how to use the electric heater when I took you up. If it is cold during your stay, you can communicate with me and I will solve it for you. I wish you a happy day~

My room (I think all rooms have this but not entirely sure) had a futon bed (thin mattress directly on the floor), so this may not be to everybody’s liking

Verified reviewThis Hostel is simply outstanding. I have had 31 days travel in China on this trip. I have stayed at hundreds of different hotels and hostels during 12 years travelling and working away from the UK over the last 30 years. Miss Lu, who runs East Coast Coffee Inn has been the best host I have ever encountered. The hostel is spotlessly clean, situated just across a quiet road by the Xi an city wall. It is a four minute walk to the Tibettan Guangren Temple. From there it is just another short walk to the City gate. Immediately left and you can stroll along by the canal and river where trees and very well kept gardens give a lovely evening atmosphere with singles, couples and families enjoying themselves. Many evenings women meet up and dance for a couple of hours to music from their recorder. Maybe 50 maybe 30 maybe more. It varies. But they dance classic and modern, fast and slow. In the morning others gather to spend time in Tai Chi. It is a fascinating sight. The hostel is super modern, Ms Wu uses the Internet to give you as many locations, all on maps ready to go, as you need. The water at the hostel is piping hot all day. Busses run from by the Temple. Next door to her are a totally delicious BBQ restaurant with a big, low cost menu. On the other side is her Coffee shop. The situation, though central to the best places to go to, is very quiet so you sleep like a log. I came to China for the history, culture and food. Ms Wu put me in touch with Mariano who took me on a tour. He has 2 majors, Spanish and English. His knowledge of Chinese culture and History is amazing. Really deep and good information flowed non stop for the afternoon. He is well worth trying to hire if he is available and his area knowledge saves you so much wasted time and money. Honestly his tour, tailored to you is very cheap but seriously Interesting. There are plenty of washing machines and dryers, 4 of each, all new on each floor. Soap powder supplied and all free.
There was nothing at all lacking here, Ms Wu picked a perfect spot in China's oldest most historic Capital. Just opposite the Temple but 100 meters to your right as you look at the Temple frontage, is a tiny Tibettan Tea House, soft cushions, charging for phones. The works.
Thank you for your comment and look forward to your coming again~
