How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

You may expect the room to be a bit noisy given its central location. But closing some of the windows helps:)

Verified reviewBedroom and location (right on the busy area next to west street, which makes it convenient to find restaurants and shops but also very noisy at night, so not for light sleepers).
Terrible advice and information received at reception and multiple misunderstandings due to language barrier (I almost missed my departure train because of this. I told reception I wanted to get there 1 hour before the train, but I ended up getting there as they were boarding it. I also had to renounce to some of my visit plans and wasted time of the trip on rectifying those "misunderstandings"). Also, they only accept cash for the deposit (100 yuan), not for the activities, so keep that in mind if you are having issues with Alipay or your credit card. They were the only accommodation in all the places I visited thst requested a deposit. They have cats, keep in mind if you have allergies.
Hi Laura,thank you for giving us these kinda suggestion and feedback.So I was so confused that what you were talking...First of all,our hostel is really close to the west street which means is convenient to all the spots in Yangshuo,but we have already given you the quite room which is actually not belonging to you(cuz you are the first time to come we upgraded your room to a better one when the room was available),and you also said you were satisfied with the room cuz when you close the window and it was incredibly quite at night and you had a good sleep(you talked to me like that).Secondly,we had a really good conversation on the reception,we helped you with all the discount tickets,the good places to go,and gave you a timetable for the visiting and the transportation,I think the misunderstanding is because when you wanna buy the ticket ,you only said that you wanted it but without payment,our Chinese staff said you should confirm the booking and pay on our reception (cuz the discount is only for the guest in our hostel and it is online ticket,it is not allowed to use cash),but at that moment,you have already outside,and you always paid by cash we thought like you did not have alipay,so we called you to come back in case of missing the show,and then you were so testy that we didnt book the ticket for you(cuz you didnt pay..),but finally you had the alipay!!so you were done for the ticket but you said you goona give us a bad comment on booking,so we are really aggrieved at your behaviour and your saying.Thirdly,the deposit for the room is fair to everyone cuz it is on our booking's policy and it is just in case of your bad bahaviour in the room,we will not keep your deposit after checking out,just respect for our job,alright?we accepted cash/visa/alipay/wechatpay for the deposit,but you chose cash...At last, we love cats,we love animals,they are our part of family,so if you are allergic with that,next time when you book a hostel please read the information carefully.People should tell the truth than confusing the others...I dont think you are telling the truth with us,and you are kinda write down the comment with malignancy..and people should be more open-minded when they are travelling,we are not unfriendly owner and we love helping good person.So hope you have a good experience in China.bye-bye

Verified reviewThe host Emily was marvellous. We directly felt at home. She breathes positivity and one sees and feels that in every detail of the hostel. The room was comfortable and the hostel is very central to start some trips through the city or around to explore the scenery.

Verified reviewEverything has been perfect! Emily was very kind and helpful and she definitely made our stay and experience in Yangshuo perfect! (She suggested us some spectacular routes that we did with scooter and also delicious restaurants with also vegetarian options and staff talk in english). There are also some lovely cats in the hostel and Emily upgrade our room for free! Try also the homemade toast that she makes, so good. 💜

Verified reviewThe location is right in the middle of the most busy street in Yang Shuo, i expected the noise to be bad but find it still bearable.
I have to use the toilet to poop and of course I have to use toilet paper. There is a sign in the toilet stating in mandarin not to throw big amount of toilet paper into the toilet. Unfortunately, after using the toilet it clogged (TBH i didn’t really use alot) I informed the staff there and they told me I am not supposed to throw in ANY toilet paper into the toilet. I have to catch the train so i don’t have time to dispute with the staff. In the end they took away 50yuan from my 100yuan deposit. (Bear in mind after switching 5 different hostel/hotel in China they are the first to ask for any deposit) So, i wouldn’t recommend this place unless you are sure you wouldn’t use the toilet to poop, otherwise say bye bye to your deposit. Also to my SEA brothers and sisters, there are no bidets or any water source to clean yourself in the toilet as the shower, toilet and basin are all separated. Do with these information as you will ☹️
Hi madam,sorry for your unhappy experience,our hostel's location is perfect in the West Street .Actually some people will have trouble with the noise but it depends on their sleeping quality,and also we gave you an upgrade which means your room is bigger and more quiet than your reservation one,so luckily you had a good sleep in the room.But like you said it is not all the hostel charge for the deposit,but we did,cuz it's our policy and to make sure the guests wouldnt break our belongings ,but honestly people will get back their deposit for sure if it's nothing happened,so dont worry about we are so unfriendly..About your deposit problem is like you said,cuz our hostel has already 20 years old,it's not able to change some old downcomer so we put the notice on the wall just in case that you dont follow the rules when you use the toilet.Pooping is definitly no problem but throw away too much toilet paper in it is not allowed,our toilet paper is insoluble.So so soory for that,we had to charge your part of deposit but we also help you with the extra fee for fixing the toilet.And I dont understand there are no bidets or any water source to clean yourself in the toilet as the shower,cuz in China is like that...we get use to what we do,but luckily we have a western toilet that you can sit down for pooping...toilet and basin are all separated is benefit for using cuz after using the toilet you can go out for washing hands,cuz the toilet area need to be dry otherwise it is very dirty...so this is the new style and habit for nowaday..wish you can understand and have a happy day though..
