How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewSuch a beautiful place to stay at! Very close to the main lake (just walking distance) and the whole area is majestic. The service was great, they made sure to make us feel like home and had a delicious breakfast in the morning for us. The couple really do a great job making guests feel welcome! We loved staying there and would totally recommend to anyone visiting this area!

Verified reviewOverall, I am disappointed with this accommodation. The host—especially the husband—was not very polite, and at times I even felt unwelcome and somewhat threatened. The breakfast he provided was also quite poor.

Before and during your stay, I provided extensive travel and dining recommendations, extra blankets, and even a vegetarian breakfas, just as we do for every guest, always responding promptly to your needs. On the second day, you sat downstairs while letting your wife and children carry suitcases down, including an extremely heavy one. It was so heavy that even you, a grown man, would have struggled with it. As a result, your child had to push the luggage down the stairs, and the impact was so forceful that it nearly damaged the floor. Naturally, my husband was upset, we still don’t fully understand your actions. That is all.

Verified reviewThe people working there were very kind and the owner especially is a very nice person: there are a lot of books and movie posters and it was cool to discuss with her about literature. She also helped us with the map and more technical things. Every morning she made us a "Chinese omelette" that was very good! Generally speaking the place is very cozy and the cat living there is a little prince that sneaked into our room for a bit when we opened the door (we did nothing to prevent it ehehe) and it was very cute and nice. Everything is very clean and cozy, we would have loved to stay more!

Verified reviewThe location is really next door to the West lakes in Hangzhou, and there are restaurants in the vicinity. The owners were very kind and helpful. We were a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children aged 6 and 8) and the room was perfect for us. There are also plenty of taxis and buses going from there to the city center which is quite close.

We stayed there during cold season for 2 nights. The air conditioner heater were hidden in a box which prevents proper heating of the room. The room was super cold at night and the blanket doesn't keep warm at all. The male owner was unfriendly too. We were a group of middle age friends travelling together and booked 3 rooms separately. We asked if there is washing machine and dryer to use and we were told yes. However, when we tried to use it, the owner seems very reluctant and unhappy to let us use it. We were allowed to use the dryer for 30 minutes only which totally isn't enough to dry our thick clothings. When our friend from another room asked to use the washing machine, the male owner were very unhappy and said "not again?". We requested to have breakfast at 7am but was denied by the owner and said they could only prepare it at 8am. The second day we just forfeit the very simple breakfast. Felt like we were treated like hostel kids by the male owner. The bathroom has no air ventilator and we couldn't open the window as the room was at ground floor and near 0 °C outside. The hot water takes a long time to come out. They didn't clear the rubbish bin in the toilet at all for the two nights we stayed there.
I'm sorry that you're not satisfied during your stay. However, there are some points need to be clarified: - Please note that “the box” in the room you mentioned is the central air conditioner's outlet. In winter, the temperature is set at 27-28 degrees Centigrade. The air conditioner wind speed has also increased to ensure the room gets warm quickly. And the blankets are also thick enough. - There is one check-in notice behind the door reminds that guests who need the rubbish bin to be cleaned shall inform us beforehand, and we will clean it upon request anytime. While you didn’t make any such request. - Regarding the breakfast, it usually starts at 8:30am as listed in the notice and booking website. As you may understand, it might affect those guests staying on the first floor if we start earlier than 8am. And breakfast was served for you on the first day at 8:00 am. I’m disappointed that you felt breakfast to be very simple, which is not true! On the contrary, it is of various variety. And you informed me to cancel breakfast and check out at 6:00 am in order to catch the morning flight. - Last but not least, The laundry machine is free to use. On sunny days we recommend to hang and dry the clothes in open air(this is normal local practice). On rainy day electric dryer is recommended. You did four loads of laundry, two of which I personally helped to hang them out, dry, packed them up, delivered thoroughly dried clothes to your doorstep. hope you still remember all of this. And my husband would never mentioned sentences like “Not Again?” and” use the dryer for 30 minutes only” at all. The false parts in your comments really upsets us. Meanwhile, we have upgraded one room for you from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor for free. As we always hope that our customers would have a happy tour in Hangzhou.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was very good, the staff made adjustment for us (vegetarians) without issue. The bed and breakfast is located near the west lake, in a part that is a little bit more quiet than the rest of the lake, but still nearby everything there is to visit by bikes. We could choose our room on arrival, we took one with a lovely balcony. We were provided with a small booklet about the city, and our host was able to wash our clothes.
