How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewA really authentic home stay type hotel right in the heart of Tunxi Old Street. The room is an old style chinese room with a balcony over looking the street which i loved. The room had air con and a good sized bathroom. The staff are really lovely and helped organise a taxi for me to go to huangshan and back.
It was a great experience ! Nothing bad to report!

Verified reviewThe taxi man who picked us up at the train station- on time and gave us lots of good advice about Huangshan and advised us what to avoid to eat and buy in the old town. The communication with host was fast
Honest feedback here; Sorry to rate so low, it is due to total lack of the cleanliness in the room, smelly sewage in the bathroom, clogged drainage and very weak/unstable WIFI. Initially we were looking forward to this so called old time beautiful establishment but the reality turned out to be just dusty, smelly, dirty old place and uncomfortable bed. Wondered why the property is rated so high. Previous guests must have missed the hygiene, cleanliness points. Photos attached here as proofs- first we were excited about the old time antique bed but a closer look really made our skin crawl - full of so much dust as if it was never cleaned for years.... same as the chair, the kettle, the door....and the bathroom was horrible, very smelly and a cockroach was always beside the sink. The shower didn't drain well, when taking shower, the water didn't drain out....It was a real nightmare staying there. We didn't sleep, just wanted to leave as early as possible the next morning. Please clean up the whole place, it is a shame to let out a room like this. Booking.com photos are not the same as reality. I have photos here, it is the worst nightmare sleeping in that room.

Verified reviewInteresting old building in a very nice street. The staff was friendly and gave me good hints to reach the Yellow Mountains.
The hotel is in a small alley some few meters from the main street, and it was very hard to find it, I had to ask four different local people. The English name of the hotel was not written anywhere, and the address was imprecise. Luckily some of them were very friendly and went with me looking for the hotel.

Verified reviewOur recent stay at Old Street Courtyard in Huangshan was absolutely delightful! The hotel and its rooms are very beautiful, with traditional Chinese design (the house is over 400 years old!). We left with great pictures ;) The location was perfect – just one step and you find yourself in the bustling Old Street. Try to see the Old Street in the evening as well, as the streets are lighted creating a movielike atmosphere. What truly set this hotel apart was the exceptional service. The staff ensured that our stay was seamless, offering helpful tips for local attractions and even assisting with transportation arrangements. If you're visiting the Huangshan area, this place is a must!

Verified reviewGorgeous old building. Lady spoke English which was helpful and organised a driver to take us to tangkao. Location is right in the old town. Loved the beds, old style wooden ones.
You can hear the sounds from downstairs as it's in the middle of the old town, not that bad just something to be aware of. The beds are very hard with super thin mattress.

Verified reviewHelpful staff (arranged pick-up from train station and transport to Huangshan Yellow Mountains). Could leave out luggage behind, very convenient. Hotel itself has an authentic atmosphere, as well as the room. Location middle of Tunxi Old Street.
A lot of noise from the Old Street and within the hotel.

Verified reviewThe hotel is located in Tunxi Old Road, which is a historic district which is popular for tourists. However I myself was not there to visit Tunxi but rather the Huangshan mountain itself, so I didn't really explore the area too much. The hotel is in an old historic wooden building, and is somewhat hard to find (have to go down an alley). The staff member was very nice and helped arrange a bus for me to go to the mountain, which was affordably priced. However since the building is wooden, that means it's creaky, and there are noises that can be heard such as rain and people walking around. So, if you are a light sleeper this could be an issue. But overall I am satisfied with the hotel. Also the staff member helped deliver an item I left behind in the room, which I appreciate.

Verified reviewTraditional old Chinese courtyard guesthouse right in the middle of the old town. Bookit if you want to immerse yourself in the old town. The building is 200 year old so don't expect the hotel chain room experience.

Verified reviewI was delighted with my stay. The experience of a hotel is obviously different than staying at this traditional house (e.g. colder, less comfy bed etc.) but this only added to the authentic charm. The position is fantastic, as I had my balcony on the high street. Clean environment. Loved the bed warmer. Communication with the host was superb in helping out with getting around the city. Would recommend to everyone. Great breakfast too.
It is somewhat tucked away in a tiny alley off the main old town high street which may not be immediately apparent from wayfinding but it's easy enough to find for most. This is not a problem if you use the free pick up service.

Verified reviewThe room is very comfortable and the electric blanket is a nice touch. I think if I were to stay for a week, I might lose several kg 😁. There are so many shops selling traditional goods nearby. If only I have 7 digits bank balance in yuan...
The water pressure of the shower could be better...but then again, traditionally I would have to use a bucket and a pail, so it is not a big deal

Verified reviewThe venue is truely historic and authentic. It’s a real experience. The staff is very helpful and forthcoming and took care of all our needs.
Appliances are not in a great shape - it is a very old building afterall. Also we asked to switch to a different room because our room facing old street was incredibly noisy, which the staff gladly arranged.
