How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewWe had a truly wonderful stay at Lanshan Moon Resort. The views from the room were absolutely stunning, and there was so much to do in the surrounding areas. Mark and his team were amazing and so kind with all of their help. A caving adventure with Mark was a real highlight of our trip - highly recommended. Verified reviewVery good, clean, spacious, quiet, and great scenery. Staff were very friendly and made us feel at home. Free use of electric scooters. The scenery is unbeatable and nice roof top pool with with great view for photo taking. Although the location is away from town, it takes about 18mins didi ride to get to main shopping West Street, ¥10. Also located between Ruyi Peak and GongNong bridge.

Regarding your comment on the breakfast, please accept our sincere apologies for not fully meeting your expectations. While our breakfast might seem simple, we pour our heart into preparing nutritious meals every day. We primarily serve Chinese-style breakfast items, including freshly ground fragrant soy milk, warm milk, and a rotating selection of nourishing porridges like millet porridge, plain rice porridge, or congee with preserved eggs and lean pork. We also offer steamed eggs, fried eggs, steamed sweet potatoes and corn, crispy fried chicken pieces, Chinese-style fried dough sticks, steamed dumplings, custard buns, mini steamed buns, dumplings, egg-fried rice, stir-fried noodles, and a variety of breads such as raisin bread and toast. Additionally, we provide fresh fruits like honeydew melons and oranges, and we're happy to cook Guilin rice noodles on the spot for each guest. The broth for the rice noodles is a labor of love, simmered for around three hours using traditional local methods with dozens of beneficial Chinese herbs and beef bones. We understand that our breakfast may not match the extensive offerings of international luxury hotels, but we're committed to improving. To better cater to your preferences, we offer customized breakfast options upon request. Whether it's a cup of freshly brewed coffee, seasonal fruits, scrambled eggs or omelets, banana or potato pancakes, we'd be more than happy to prepare them for you—just let us know in advance! As for our location, we intentionally chose this spot to create a tranquil, idyllic retreat away from the hustle and bustle. Verified reviewLanshan Moon Hotel is an absolute hidden gem in YangShuo. Their rooms are clean, tasteful, affordable & modern with the most picturesque view of the fields and mountains. The most impressive of our stay is the hostel owner and staff’s hospitality—- they are extremely attentive , offering full concierge service— from booking any tickets to nearby attractions and shows, to driving and guiding you around town, and would even turn on the heater or AC of your room ahead of your return. This 5 star treatment, along with the affordable yet beautiful room made our stay extremely enjoyable, I would most definitely recommend to all my friends and family visiting Yangshuo. The staff - Like Mark Ma - were attentive and so professional and went out of their way to provide tips on where and what to do in both. The location was perfect and close to all the main tourist sites. The room was amazing and had a perfect view of some of the mountains.

Verified review- luxuriously equipped rooms with great view - friendly staff at reception
some of the available services advertised for on 'booking.com' were far below expectation, esp. in view of the room rate which resembles that of high end accommodations: - credit card payment was not possible at the reception upon check-in (I was asked to make credit card payment in another hotel) - canteen-style restaurant for breakfast buffet, western breakfast very poor (no fruit juice, only instant coffee in cardboard cups, cappucino was charged separately) - we were told at the reception that only one bicycle was availabe for rent

Since your visit, we have resolved the credit card issue. We are now able to handle credit cards upon check-in. 2 Our breakfast buffet provides fresh fruit, but not fruit juice. The breakfast buffet offers a wide range of Chinese offerings, but is admittedly limited in Western offerings due to preference of our guests, both foreign and Chinese. Espresso, cappuccino and the like are charged separately, as they are not included in our standard breakfast. 3. Regarding bicycles for rent, with advance notice, we can provide bicycles, although most guests prefer our electric scooters. We also offer outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, exploring local villages, etc. We do hope that you will return to our hotel in the future. We will do our best to accommodate your requirements.

Verified reviewThe main attractions of Lanshan Wangyue Hotel are the outstanding location in a village not too far from the town of Yangshuo, but with a feeling of old rural China and magnificent unobstructed view of the karst peaks in all directions; and the friendly service by the owners, Mark Ma, Li Wu and Siwei, and their hard-working and helpful staff. Additionally, the rooms are commodious and offer full views-- distant mountains from the front, the village and close mountains on the back side. The beds are new and great for sleeping, plus the rooms have good insulation and are very quiet. The proprietors find out what the guests wish to do, and custom arrange and lead excursions into the surrounding countryside. In an area that has lots of tourists (almost all domestic Chinese), they can take guests on bike trips or hikes to places that no one else visits. Ask them to take you on the half hour climb up to the old Qing Dynasty bandits lair in a cave high above the surrounding countryside, or to one of the ancient villages in the area. So much to see and do in the area, with some of the finest scenery in China.
Could have used a better reading chair in my room, and a hair drier in the bathroom.

Verified reviewThe owner of the hotel, Mark is a unique person! It creates a very kind atmosphere in the hotel. In two days, it was as if we had become one big family. Mark spent a lot of time with us. We traveled a lot to beautiful places that not everyone knows and that not all tourists visit. Mark has become my brother over the past few days. These were the most exciting and eventful days of our entire trip to China. I didn't expect such care. We will definitely come back to this hotel.

Verified reviewThe hotel and its rooms correspond to the descriptions and photos. The Lanshan Moon Hotel (now Fairyland Hotel) is in an excellent location in beautiful nature. Many places of interest (Moon Hill, caves, ancient villages, bicycle routes etc.) are very close, but also Yangshuo is only 13 minutes away by car. But the best thing about the hotel is host and hotel manager Mark, who speaks good English and knows the area very well; he can organize individual excursions, scooters and bicycles and gave us tips for activities every day. In addition, individual dishes can be prepared in the kitchen on request. All in all, we spent a wonderful vacation there!
According to the description on this page there is a kitchen and coffee mashine in the room, but that is not the case (the room only provides the posibility to prepare tea).

Verified reviewOur best vacation ever. Jack Li is very special person. He let you all the freedom you need but at the same time he is always there with his extraordinary hospitality. Jack Li was also cooking for us breakfast and dinners. We had always access to the kitchen, so you see the way he cook is very healthy, buying the food from local agricultors on the market or even using his own vegetables. Our kids had a lot of fun with his animals and Jack Li always let them freely play on the garden. Strongly recommended for families with small kids.

Verified review[highly recommend Mark's place. The situation is amazing (great view and not too close from Yansghuo and its intense traffic, so quiet and peaceful, though with easy access). Fairyland hotel is comfortable with big rooms. The room had a great view and the bed was comfy !You share a lovely garden (with flowers and healthy vegetables -no pesticides!) with others guests, perfect for a beer at sunset. Last but not least, The hotel's staff are very enthusiastic ,very kind host, very thoughtful, who will show you all the secret treasures of this beautiful countryside. He's also a great cook: I don't eat meat but tasted a lot of different dishes, so delicious. I was travelling alone for a month and had the most incredible experience there. With Mark and his friends I discovered places I would never have been, shared great moments bicycling, fishing, climbing mountains, dining or playing cards. I will stay there next time for sure and I'm looking forward to :)
