We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. New ZealandPerhaps a refrigerator in the room, but I'm aware this is not usual for traditional Chinese hotels. There is simply nothing to complain about at this hotel.
The hotel is beautiful and has a very traditional style. It is in a great location, so close to the old town and has great views. Jimmy was a fantastic host and is truly an asset and a great ambassador for the hotel. We will never forget our stay.

New ZealandThe only thing I could suggest would be perhaps a refrigerator in the room, but I understand this not typical of Chinese hotel accommodation.
The hotel was beautiful and had a very traditional style with great attention to detail, it also had a fantastic view of the old town and was in a great location. Jimmy was a fantastic ambassador for the hotel and a really welcoming host. He is truly an asset to the hotel.

GreeceWe would suggest a sofa in the breakfast room for staying longer there with a book or just relaxing.
The people, specially Jimmy who was incredible, very helpful and speaks very good English! We are feeling grateful for the hospitality! The place is amazing! The building is a traditional villa very good restored. The room spacious with magnificent views in the old city. We stayed one week and we didn't want to go. Jimmy asked us if we would like something different for breakfast, although there are three Chinese options and a sandwich. The atmosphere of the hotel is unique! Beautiful garden! Jimmy helped us to go to the Tiger gorge and to the villages around lijiang. He has found us a really nice driver with a Tesla. Very grateful he brought us to the train station without any cost! Thank you all!

United StatesHonestly nothing. it was marvelous
The hotel was gorgeous, with a spectacular view and a super location nearby but also not in the middle of the crowd. The staff was very accommodating giving us a premium experience. They were attentive, helpful and always there to help. Spoke English. Great for foreigners. And at a good price. The consolidated rooms for us as we had kids, saving us money at the hotel. Created a cooking class. Really great.

United KingdomPerhaps the breakfast could be a little more extensive.
This hotel is a one off. It has been very well designed, with superb taste, evoking a historic feel, which is enhanced by beautiful antique furniture and artwork. The garden feels like you’ve walked into the name of the hotel - a zen garden, and our room (at the top of the hotel) was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Very comfortable and spacious too, with excellent detailing. The views of the rooftops of the old town and the foothills of the Himalayas - just breathtaking. The icing on the cake was the very friendly service we received, beginning with the pickup and help with our bags. All the staff made us feel very welcome, offering advice, chats and tea. They also spoke good English. We were most impressed though with Amber. We couldn’t believe she had learned English in four years - her use of language was impeccable. She couldn’t do enough to make sure we were happy at the hotel - even spending part of her day in our company, helping translate and see the sights. She gave us the best service we had in China and will be very successful in her hotel career. We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lijiang. The staff dedication to guest satisfaction truly enhanced our experience.

NetherlandsThe hotel was amazing! The ambience, the inner yard, the room, all was really beautiful and very clean. The hotel is laying on the Lion mountain and just a 5 minutes walk away from the historical centre of Lijiang. The manager of the hotel was very hospital and nice. And the special service we've received from our hostess Amber Jiang. She accommodated us the whole our stay and made it unforgettable.

ChinaIt was a fantastic stay. We received a lot of help from Amber and Mr. Tian, not only regarding our stay at the hotel but also with our trip around Lijiang. Pleasantly surprised, our room was upgraded to be an even more superb one with a panoramic view of the old town. The hotel itself is a lovely old-fashioned wooden house, located right next to Wenchang Temple (文昌宫), which is a perfect place to watch the sunrise, almost as if one had traveled back in time hundreds of years. It's right in the center of the old town, so it's expected that you'll hear folk songs from the bars down the hill, which was an interesting experience for us but the hotel also offers quiet rooms for different needs. We were interested in mushroom picking, so Amber also arranged us a one-day trip near Baisha Zhen (白沙镇). The trip was truly impeccable: the two of us we dug up five Matsutake mushrooms with the dedicated help of our local guide and Amber, along with many other beautiful mushrooms. They then arranged a mushroom lunch for us in the mountains, where we had a breathtaking view of Yulong Snow Mountain (玉龙雪山). Highly recommended!

Singaporelocation was excellent as its right in the middle of the 古城。We loved that the hotel deco speaks of the Chinese heritage and staying in this vicinity enabled us to immerse in the Chinese traditions of food and culture. We requested for specific breakfast dumplings and our host, 小赵 arranged it. 小赵 was an excellent host, he picked us up from the train station, helped us with our luggage upon arrival and departure, provided laundry service, recommended many excellent dinner venues and shops for souvenirs. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Czech Republichad a truly wonderful stay at this hotel. The service was exceptional from start to finish, and I want to give a special thank you to our butler, Amber. She went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Amber was always kind, attentive, and incredibly helpful — especially when it came to organizing our trip to Snow Mountain. Thanks to her, everything went smoothly and we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Another highlight of our stay was the breathtaking view of the Old Town from our room. Watching the rooftops and lanterns light up at night was absolutely magical — it truly added something special to the entire experience. If you're staying here, you're in great hands — and if you're lucky enough to have Amber looking after you, your experience will be even more special.

Lijiang Zen Garden Hotel This hotel is beautiful, charming, with a view and is located in the old city, with easy access to Mu House and all the shops in the old city. Although it is located in the old city, it is accessible by car and they kindly picked us up at the airport, which is approximately an hour away from the hotel. The room is spacious, very comfortable with an excellent mattress, bed linen and towels, and a great bathroom with plenty of water, including a bathtub. But the best thing about the hotel is Amber, who speaks English and organized all the tours we did, including personally taking us to a restaurant, helping us choose the dishes and placing our order. Amber is excellent and extremely kind and helpful. Without her, our stay would certainly have been much more complicated. For guests who do not speak Chinese, this hotel has a great advantage. In short, the hotel is 10 out of 10. We were extremely well attended to in everything we asked for.

Hong KongThe ancient town is a tourist attraction so there will be busy crowds and associated sounds late into the night
The hotel itself is a 300 year old Qing Dynasty residence that has been modernised without losing its character. The location is hard to beat, sitting on a hill overlooking the heart of the ancient city of Lijiang. The incredible staff who go out of their way to help. The duty manager Amber was so friendly, efficient and helped arrange activities, transport and even contacted my next hotel when they were not responding. Amber was the key to us having a great trip and is a credit to the hotel.

United KingdomBreakfast was a disappointment - very Chinese style.
Extraordinarily beautiful place set around a courtyard up quite a steep hill. Our room was huge with a sitting area and beautiful views - old style at first glance but lovely modern bathroom. A driver met us at the station and the hotel also arranged our transport back for no charge. Amber was outstanding, very helpful at all times and full of advice. She took us to a restaurant and helped us negotiate the Chinese menu. We were greeted with a cup of tea. This gorgeous building looks authentic and atmospheric but has all the mod cons.

Good location with nice scenery, just within a few minutes walk from the Old Town of Lijiang. Very friendly staffs (Xiao Tian & Xiao Zhao) whom helped to carry our super heavy luggages. They also recommended a very good massage place for us and offered to send us there. Last but not least, their breakfast was also very yummy and good coffee! The hotel has Dyson hair dryer!

We had a wonderful stay at Zen Garden Hotel. It's absolutely worth the price. The team is absolutely lovely and helpful to the fullest. Our room was not just super nice and comfortable, but also had a lovely terrace with a beautiful view of the city. Breakfast was super tasty, and we were even offered soup in the evening that we would have loved to taste if we had not been full already. Since we were there over the weekend, we can say that there is also not much noise from town.

GermanyThe hotel boasts an excellent location overlooking the ancient town of Lijiang. Its thoughtfully designed decor creates a delightful ambiance. The comfortable bed ensured a great night's sleep. Most impressive was the hotel's service - from airport pickup to personalized breakfast arrangements, local attractions/dining recommendations, daily greetings, and even a complimentary room upgrade. Such professionalism and attentiveness demonstrated in every detail truly made us feel at home. Special thanks to staff member Mr. Zhao for his assistance. Highly recommended!

United KingdomThe Zen Garden/Runjing Wengchanggong Hotel in Lijiang is an absolutely stunning boutique hotel just above the ancient town of Lijiang. My husband and I stayed three nights and can say without exaggeration that it was by far the most beautiful hotel of our three-week China trip. Our driver was able to get within a few metres of the entrance to the hotel where we got a lovely welcome from Jimmy, who speaks excellent English. We had booked the Room with Castle View (which is beautiful and would have made us perfectly happy) but were offered an upgrade to the top-floor room with terrace and a 180 degree panoramic view of the ancient city and mountains. Just wow! It is like every piece of furniture and accessory in the room was chosen with love and impeccable taste – which also goes for the breakfast room and all other public areas in the hotel. Every single nook and cranny is simply stunning, from the beautiful carved sculpture representing the Tea Horse Road to the beautiful ponds, artificial mist and all! Apart from all the gorgeous touches, our room had all mod cons (except coffee but there was a beautiful teapot and several teas to choose from) as did the bathroom/shower-room and toilet (with heated seat). Breakfast consisted of three choices (which you note down the evening before) – Chinese porridge, spicy noodles or a Western-style warm breakfast sandwich. I loved the noodles and hubby really liked the sandwich. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk downhill to all the shops, bars and restaurants. In the evening, there is a fair bit of noise drifting up from the ancient town (which does turn into the Yunnan equivalent of Ibiza for a few hours each night) However, things die down by midnight (we are night people so it didn’t particularly bother us). Instead, I just loved sitting on the chaise-longue or the terrace outside our room and enjoy the 180 degree night-view – priceless!
