How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAlice is a very welcoming host. She offered her assistance from the very beginning, finding cheap comfortable transportation from Xiamen, giving guidance to understand the Tulous and get local delicious food. The room is clean and modern, everything a traveler would need and more. Thank you Alice, unforgettable experience and overall a must for everyone traveling Fujian. Ps: Be aware the area is Unesco Heritage and a fee for tourists is required (aprox. 15$).
I liked everything

Verified reviewThe owner of the place, Alice, was very nice and helpful. She contacted me with What'sUp already several days before our stay and arranged us a driver with 7-seater car who picked us from the Nanjing railway station and drove us two days in different Nanjing and Yongding tulou areas. In the courtyard there was a cat that our boys liked to play with and feed.

Verified reviewDespite awful weather (constant rain due to a typhoon), our stay at Herongzhuang was very pleasant. The owner was always willing to help us arrange drivers, buy stuff we needed and provided plenty of tea to my sick friend. The entire area around the house is simply beautiful with lush green forests and tea gardens. I'd come back any time! The rooms were clean and tidy and there's a TV with English movies (we spent a lot of time indoors because of the heavy rainfall).

Verified reviewYou live in an actual tulou from 300-400 years ago, and perfectly renovated. The common areas are as you expect in an old communal living house, and truly authentic. Rooms are renovated perfectly, perfectly clean, modern, and comfortable, and yet, retains the old character. Rooms have attached bathrooms that are clean and modern. The hostess speaks great English and so does her husband, who will drive you around during the day for a very reasonable price.
Nothing much to dislike, unless you are looking for a place like a regular hotel. This is not a regular hotel and rather, a comfortable but authentic, historic hotel.

Verified reviewIt leaves up to its promises in experiencing staying in an old tulou (40yo). It is a pleasant surprise that the room is very modern and tastefully decorated. Jesse and Alice were easy to talk to, and even did favors for us in booking transportation. The tour was customized to our preference and Jesse acted as a guide in Tianloukeng, even giving us access to go up the highest floor of one of the Tulous. He also indulged our questions as we love history and culture (one of us is with ICOMOS, so info requested was bordering technical matters of conservation). Taxia as a place is pleasant and quaint, and staying for two nights was not a bad decision. Closest Restaurants are 15 minute walk (2 convenience stores are 50 meters away though), being able to visit some Tulous on the way. Their folks are also very friendly.

Verified reviewIt was a great experience being able to stay in a Tulou. Despite being a tulou, the facilities and the room were very good. The tulou is located near Taxia village so we were able to walk with the owner to the village and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. The owner also kindly helped arrange car transport to and from Nanjing station as well as for the day so that we could visit numerous tulous such as Tianluokeng and Yongding. She also kindly took us around and explained the different historical backgrounds behind each of the tulous.

Verified reviewAlice was very friendly and was in touch with me via Wechat to arrange pickup at the bus stop. She also helped me rent a bike to explore the tulous nearby, arranged meals at night and sold me a local rice wine bottle. Everything was very smooth :)

Verified reviewAlice is very helpful. We were picked up from Zhangzhou train station. There is no easier way to reach this place on our own. This is a 400 year old tulou that we stayed the night. Of course, the rooms were with “modern” amenities like air conditioner and hot water shower. We engaged Jesse to bring us to nearby commercial tulous. In the evening we had dinner at the restaurant in Taxia village next to the river (which overflowed the banks the next day after we left). We had dish of fried fish caught from the river. We had porridge breakfast prepared by Alice in the tulou.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at this nice tulou hotel. Alice and her husband gave us a very warm welcome and made me and my family (two children and my parents) feel like friends. It was such a pleasure to talk in English and chat about China, Tulous, Hakka people and lots of other things while sipping Fujian tea. The five rooms are in a modern design which blends in nicely with the 300 year old tulou. Alice and Jesse have made an exhibition on the renovation works they have done. The hotel rooms are part of an inhabited tulou, so there is some normal life going on which I liked. Breakfast was fried noodles or rice with fruits for a fair price. Also, Alice helped us with organizing transport to further tulous. Taxia village is nice stroll around and a very good base to explore the region. It is part of three nice tulou sites (with Tianluokeng and Yuchanglou) in one ticket and these three are far less crowded than the other clusters (Heguilou and Huaiyuanlou) and Yunshuiyao village.
