How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Staff does not speak english and has very little experience. Window could not close but this was solved by the manager by providing us with a different room. Water pressure in shower is low.

Verified reviewThe staff is very friendly and helpful. They are clearly focused on helping their guests. The hotel is located in a very good place - close to interesting places in Xiamen. The rooms are clean, comfortable, quiet. I definitely recommend it!
Unfortunately, the staff does not speak English at all - with a few exceptions - but fortunately they are very good at using translators available on mobile devices.

There was a relentless, cacophonous construction noise from inside the hotel starting at 8am and not ceasing until around 5pm. Drilling, sawing, grinding noises. Even with noise cancelling headphones it was hard to block out. They are apparently constructing a "tearoom" on the 4th floor but you can hear it throughout the hotel. At a certain point, it became comical how loud the noise was. In addition, there is an omnipresent smell of cigarette smoke in the room, despite the non-smoking signs everywhere, the windows closed, etc. In short, a typical Chinese hotel experience.

Immediate measures have been taken to restrict noisy work to midday hours (11 AM - 2 PM) and implement additional soundproofing barriers. We’re also offering complimentary earplugs and flexible room changes for affected guests moving forward. Your observation about residual smoke odor is concerning. As a strictly non-smoking property, we’ve reinforced staff training to vigilantly monitor and address this issue, including deep-cleaning protocols and air purifier deployment in sensitive areas. Our engineering team is also re-evaluating the ventilation system to prevent odor transfer between floors. We’ve shared your comments about breakfast variety and shower pressure with our F&B and facilities teams for targeted upgrades. Verified reviewPerfect location close to the pier and to Zhongshan Road. The staff very kindly accommodated me when I wanted to extend by an extra night during a busy season, finding me a suitable new room at a lower price than my original room. Everything in the hotel was new, well-functioning, and convenient.
The gym was not set up yet when I stayed there; it would have been nice to exercise in the hotel since there aren’t good options for jogging right nearby.

Verified reviewAs an experienced world traveler, I can confidently say that this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at in China. The room was spotless, tidy, and equipped with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. On top of that, the room was cleaned thoroughly every day, which I greatly appreciated. The service was absolutely excellent, with thoughtful touches like ginger tea, face masks, and even the option to do your laundry – incredibly convenient if you’re traveling for an extended period. The bistro at the hotel was also a great spot to relax with a nice cup of coffee or a drink. The breakfast was fantastic, offering plenty of choices. The hotel’s location is very central, making it easy to get around. What truly made my stay unforgettable was the incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful staff. Their warm approach immediately made me feel at home. Finally, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the hotel manager, who went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect. Their professionalism and hospitality are truly exceptional. If I ever return to Xiamen, I will undoubtedly choose this hotel again Thank you for a truly wonderful stay!

Verified reviewEverything you could ask for and more for a 3* hotel. Staff were very helpful. Location seems inconspicuous until you walk 5 mins up the road and find a major walking street/shopping area. Room facilities are well thought out. Would absolutely stay again and rarely book 3 star places. Price was great for what we got.

Verified reviewIn fact, this was the second time my family stayed in Qulistar. We stayed several days earlier before we webt to Nanjing Tulou & Quanzhou. We were warmly welcomed when we checked in. And our request for room type change for my father was approved & handled speedily by Mr Li (the manager) himself. As it was Christmas eve, we received huge apples as presents in our rooms. My sister,whose birthday is on Christmas, even received a huge bouquet of fresh roses, hand drawn birthday card & a box prefumed writing cards. This was such a wonderful and thoughtful surprise. Normally received in 5 star hotels for value guests. Staff at the reception were attentive & quick to respond to queries & requests. We love the breakfast & the warm & helpful attitude of the staff. Food were varied daily. We celebrated my sister’s birthday at bteakfast lounge. Kudos to manager Mr Li & his team .. we had a superb stay.
