How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe place is at a fantastic location, walking distance to Lingyin temple. There are tons of tasty restaurants nearby too. I really appreciate the thoughtful service offered by staff there. They went out of their way to make sure that all our requests and needs are well taken care of. Most importantly, the decor style is full of traditional cultural elements and demonstrates the unique tastes of the owner.
During peak tourist season, taxis are not willing to drive in to right in front of the house, which is not the house’s fault but simply because it’s located at such a hot tourist spot☺️

Verified reviewThe breakfast was simple, but ok. We got very nice tea, and dumplings! The best with our stay was the very helpful hostess, who booked tables for us at restaurants (the extremely good vegetarian restaurant – totally amazing!) and went out of her way to make sure we got a Didi in time when we were leaving.
The breakfast could have included decent coffee. The location was perfect for visiting the Lingyin temple. However, since there are restrictions to car driving (including taxis/Didis) during weekends, it may not be the best location in the weekend if you plan to get around in Hangzhou and want to rely on driving. Bus transfer is good!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We’re thrilled you had a great experience and appreciate your kind words. Looking forward to your next visit!

Verified reviewThe hotel itself was really nice and the room was wonderful. It was especially nice to have a small outside area connected to our room. The breakfast was also good!
It was really hard to find the hotel. We could get to the correct area, but taxis cannot enter the back streets and would often get confused and leave us on the opposite end of the neighborhood. This meant it required a lot of walking to get back to the hotel.
The charm of Hangzhou lies in its alleys, and your story remains in our hearts. Thank you for choosing this place. May this leisure and beauty always be by your side. Let's have tea and listen to the rain together next time~

Verified reviewLovely breakfast and tea, warm host, peaceful and super clean with beautiful wood-themed rooms — a wonderful first impression of Hangzhou!
Just note there’s traffic restriction on weekends (9am–5pm), so no taxis or Grab during that time.
We are so glad that you like our little courtyard! The incense from Lingyin Temple, the aroma of Longjing tea, and the sound of the stream at Bai Le Bridge are all the "flavors of Hangzhou" that we want to share with our guests. Your recognition gives us more motivation. May this tranquility always remain in your heart!

We loved everything.
Thank you for choosing our homestay. It's our karmic connection to meet you amid the morning bells and evening drums of Lingyin Temple. Your appreciation for the Zen atmosphere and the surrounding environment is the greatest encouragement to us! We look forward to your next visit to enjoy tea, listen to the rain and savor the peaceful moments.

Thank you for stopping by our little courtyard with blue tiles. It's our honor to be a part of your memories of Lingyin. The morning bell can be seen through the window, and the tea smoke rises around the bamboo. Your warm comments are like the fragrance of osmanthus at the door, adding a touch of fragrance to our journey ahead. We look forward to seeing you again.

Verified reviewAmazing attention from the staff! He helped me all the time, prior to the travel and during my stay. He booked an early Didi (taxi) for me since I didn’t have the app.
The location is a bit far from the lake, around 50min walk. But you have the option to rent a bike. It is worth it either way since the path is super beautiful! On the other side, it is located very close to the temple and point view.
Before the morning bell rang, you had already ascended the stairs and left. Only a cold cup of Longjing tea remained on the table, chatting with the thick incense filling the room about the essence of Buddhism. Thank you for understanding the Buddhist scriptures we keep hidden in the moss-covered courtyard. If one day you remember Lingyin Temple, this bamboo door will always be gently closed for the person who understands.

Verified reviewBreakfasts were traditional style, varied and delicious. The location was in a quiet village neighbourhood, close to West Lake and the Lingyin Temple complex.
We didn't know until our departure day that taxis can't drive into the village at weekends, so we had to get a bus to the airport.

Verified reviewWe stayed in this lovely property for 2 nights. It was the perfect getaway after 2 weeks in big cities landscapes. Although Hangzhou is not small at all, the hotel is located in a peaceful natural area, very quiet but still close to important highlights such as the Feilai Peak. The best highlight of the property was the staff, which was a 10/10. The guy working at the reception was lovely and so kind to us, helping us many times with restaurant recommendation, ordering food to our room one night when it was raining and helping us carry our luggage to the bus stop (around 10 min by foot). The property also prepares every morning a free breakfast which is super local, quite different from what we’re used to, but we loved it. It was delicious and the overall feeling of being there was very home-y.
Nothing specific, we got a small room which was a bit tight for the number of luggage we had (2 big ones and 2 small ones), but everything was very doable.

Verified reviewVery hospitable family running this quaint hotel. The neighborhood was picturesque, set in a wooded neighborhood retreat away from the city. Easy walk to Lingyin Temple. Staff speaks decent English, with a strong desire to understand and be understood - always smiling and so so friendly!
Beds remind me of similar beds I slept on in Japan - VERY hard (basically a raised wooden platform with minimal padding).

Verified reviewClose to lingyin temple, within walking distance. Cozy place and nice local breakfast
Not convenient to stay with big luggages and with elderly/kids, as there are staircases leading to the rooms and narrow roads (not accessible by cars most of the time). There are also traffic control at certain time as this place is located near to lingyin temple, making it difficult to get a didi/taxi.

Verified reviewNice rooms and staff. A more residential area to stay next to the lake.
Getting a taxi out of this area can be a challenge due to traffic control. Either wait and flag one down by the main road or walk 10-15mins to the nearest DiDi pick up spot which isn’t great in 40 degree heat. Places in the city next to the lake may be more convenient for transport.
