The owners are lovely! They can help you with most of your further adventures - especially any trekking you might be considering. The vibe is warm, cosy and friendly. Clean bathrooms and dorms, even the food was pretty decent with a good price. Highly recommend staying here. The owner even helped us with accommodation, when we had forgotten of book an extra night and everything cheap in town was full!

Lovely little place with bar and gorgeous big bed and heater - a home from home. Great food and super helpful lady who runs it. Amazing location, too, right on the edge of the old town and near the dancing square if that floats your boat... Everything you want from a proper hostel in China.

The owners took very good care of everyone, ensuring everyone was well fed and had good ideas for their trips around Shangri-la. They even upgraded the toilets to ensure the guests' needs were met. We had many great conversations about hiking, trekking, and which were the best places to hike in Yunnan, conversations which would not have been possible without the wealth of experience the owners had.

Super cozy place, both the private room and dorms (tried both). In a quiet alley in the old town, serves good and fairly priced food and most of all very accommodating owners - helping and giving advice and also really nice to just talk with them. Would always book here when I’m in Shangri La.

Very friendly staff, welcoming. They assisted in everything and even send me my forgotten items. I like the location and the rooms too! They offer a variety of breakfast and lunch. Great for kids too!

The hair dryer is near the dorm beds, so I felt a bit uncomfortable using it early in the morning (around 6am). I was worried it might wake someone up.

I felt right at home here! The location’s perfect—inside the old town, so you can walk around. The host was super friendly and helpful; she even booked a great tour to Balagezong for me. I also loved the dorm bed—it had a heated mattress, so I slept really well during my 2-night stay. Would totally stay again!

Christina was really nice and she is everywhere !: she gave lots of advices about things to do in Shangri la, she cooked, she helped doing our laundry, she fixed the sink. Her family and her were friendly and introduced backpackers/foreign tourists between them. Location was great, next to the dancing place but in a quiet street. Clean and warm place to stay, thank you so much

Very close to Subway and main railway station. The staff were really helpful.they will show where to go if you ask them. Very clean bathroom and toilet Comfortable bed and towel provided.

From the first time I loved this place. The atmosphere is so friendly here, that I could feel like with the good friends. The owners are friendly and very helpful. And speak English. Comfortable beds, warm duvets, electric blankets. Clean bathrooms. Washing machine and place to dry the clothes on the terrace. Delicious food (vegan options too). Travelers from over the world. And very good location.Highly recommend!

Common areas, room and communal toilets were very clean. Host was very generous and helpful. Centrally located. It was perfect. Lots of travellers who speak English 😁

The heating system was in the metress of the bed. Which was strange for me and I couldn't adopt with it and couldn't sleep much.

The lady working there was very helpful with info, train tickey, etc. The place is clean amd has a reeto as well with good food and cheap beer. It's very near the old town. The wifi is ok too.

Tavern hostel is just amazing, from the owners to the food to the location . They speak a really good English and they give you all the informations you need! I booked with them the hike to Abuji Lake (was amazing ) and he booked for me the bus to Lijiang ! Loved the food there, I also tried a Korean dish and the best coffee I ever tried in China! So highly recommended!!!! Thank you guys !! I hope to see you again !
