How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewAmazing spacious lobby with live music, billiard table, table football, bar and sofà where relaxing. One beverage (coffee or beer) offered daily. Very helpfull staff! Free laundry. Very comfortable room (we book a private double room with toilet). Very good location in a lively area, close to muslim district and bell tower, subway, bus service to terracotta army. Nearby you can find many restaurant, shop and a gaming centre

Unfortunately some rooms (dorm, shower) had no window, so the air didn't circulate well. I liked the overall feel more in Desti Chengdu which I visited before.

Verified reviewLocation is good. Very close to the metro station. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cleaners do a very good job. Sleeping rooms are well away from the lounge/bar. The facilities are modern so everything is functioning. There is a pool table. That is great! There are organised activities for guests. Good idea. High proportion of domestic Chinese visitors. Nice change and a good opportunity to interact with the "locals".
China has a culture of people smoking in the toilets, showers, and public stairways. For non smokers this is horrible. Difficult problem to fix. The WiFi desperately needs upgrading. Xi'an is a beautiful place. The air is clean. But don't bother going to see the terracotta army. You will be very, very disappointed. From what I hear it was amazing in the 1980s. Now it is an absolute sea of Chinese people and you will barely get to see anything at all.

Verified reviewThe staff here is amazing — super kind, always smiling, and they speak English, which made my stay in Xi’an so much easier. The rooms are clean, the bed’s really comfy, and I slept like a baby. The lobby with all the board games turned into the spot where I met so many people from all over the world. It’s such a cozy place, and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. Plus, the hostel’s in a beautiful area and everything you need is just a short walk away.

Verified reviewOur room is spacey. And the location is very good. Typical hostel service, which is ok.
The self-service laundry is a nightmare. You have to download an app to be able to do the laundry but the QR code doesn’t work and you have to go back and forth so that the reception can scan it and start the program for you. The washing machines are very very dirty, stinky and moldy. But apparently for the hostel it is more important to organize hip events and sell European-priced coffee(good coffee tho) than to take care of the hygiene of the washing machines. It is a little pretentious… if you wanna save money on your stay so you can spend more on drinks, then feel free.

Verified review- Spacious 4 bed dorm - Plenty of showers and toilets - Location. Near subway line 2, Bell and Drum tower and muslim quarter - Some of the staff were really helpful
- Not the hostel's fault but the men's toilet seemed like a smoking free area. Some of the guests didn't care at all about no smoking and it was full of cigarette butts. - The common room was quite a mess in the early morning
