How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewProperty is good. Staffs were friendly. Loaction is perfect as all the Indian restaurants are nearby.
The negative part is the breakfast. Very limited options for Indian food. That too very average taste. The property also requires renovation now. Washroom upgradation too.

Dear Management, I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction regarding a recent incident during my stay at Byland Hotel, which has left me both frustrated and disappointed. On [09-23 of April 2025. Incident happened on 13/04/2025], my companions and I checked into your hotel. Upon our departure to another province, we were charged an additional 200 RMB for what was claimed to be a stain on our bed sheet. We paid this amount under duress, as we needed to continue our travels. We had specifically requested that the bed sheet be kept with our luggage, assuring the staff that we would address the issue upon our return. When we returned to the hotel two days later, we inspected the bed sheet and discovered a small blue pen mark—essentially a line with two dots. We were taken aback, as we had not carried any writing instruments with us during our stay. Despite our attempts to explain, the front office staff remained adamant that the mark was our responsibility. Their refusal to consider our explanation was both unhelpful and discourteous. I find it hard to believe that a hotel of your reputation would handle such situations in this manner. It is concerning that the staff did not even consider the possibility that the mark may have been inadvertently created by someone else or that it could have been a pre-existing condition that went unnoticed until our departure. This incident, coupled with the harsh behavior of the front desk staff, has marred what should have been a pleasant experience at your hotel. I urge you to review this situation and consider refunding the 200 RMB charge, as it seems unjustified given the circumstances. I hope you take this matter seriously and ensure that your staff is trained to handle such issues with professionalism and courtesy in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Dear customer, We are deeply sorry that the bad experience happened duiring your stay in our hotel hotel. I have inquired about this matther with my staff and investigated the CCTV duiring the service. I saw the picture of the bed sheet, actually I think if the housekeeping can not put it on the bed if the stain is on it before you stay. It's not a small area. I am so sorry that they charged 200 from you because the sheet was destroyed, we can not use it anymore. About the reception service, I think their attitude is not very good, they should be more patient when they are talking and explaining to you, I will arrange for them to receive more professional training. No need to charge 6rmb for a glass of water which was broken by mistake. They did charge me 6rmb bcoz there was a crack on glass. And also when u can to know that the glass is broken, you must replace it by new one. So atleast client can use it. Broken glass can harm the client. SO BE AWARE NEXT TIME. NOT ALL THE CLIENTES YOU RECIEVE ARE THIEVES, TRUST IS IMPORTANT. ALL THOUGH VERY GOOD HOTEL, EVERY TIME I VISIT CHINA, I STAY AT THIS HOTEL. STAFF IS VERY HELPFUL.
