Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyGreat hosts and guide. Very simple but cozy structure in the middle of the desert. Not far from the observatory and very well organized for any requests, from transportation to tour or meal. Strongly suggest if you're looking for a trip in Desierto de la Tatacoa.

GermanyThere was no wifi and the signal was bad. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend it to people who need to work while travelling.
The location was superb, as well as the staff's attentiveness. It was calm, peaceful and comfortable. Don't expect too much, ultimately it is in the middle of the desert: Internet, running water and restaurants are scarce, but the experience is worth it every cent.

Basic but has everything you need. Amazing and kind hosts that cooked some of the best Colombian food I’ve had in a whole month of travelling the country. Very helpful with no matter what our questions and requests were. Easily surpassed my expectations!

United KingdomThis is a fantastic place to stay. The staff are extremely helpful, always willing to offer advice and tips. They arranged our transport from Neiva bus station. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the closest observatory, 20 minute walk to the start of the red desert walking trail, and 30 minute cycle to the grey desert trail and swimming pool. They have bikes in good condition at the hotel so it was great to hire them and go for a cycle! The food here is also great, with good vegetarian options. I thoroughly recommend! The only thing to note is there is no wifi in the rooms or communal area. Also note the rooms are basic but this is normal for this area of the desert.

United KingdomNone of this is really a "what didn't you like" as we expected it to be basic and none of it was a disappointment. There is no power in the rooms. There is a charging station in the eating room where you can charge but only during daylight hours - the property relies on solar power. The shower was just a hosepipe fed in above the shower area, so no 'shower', just a steady stream. It is not hot but, given it is heated by the sun on the tank, it is not cold.
You stay here for the location and it doesn't disappoint. The room was very basic but we knew it would be. The outside is covered in white plastic bottles, to keep some of the heat out. The bathroom is rustic but well equipped. The cleanliness is very good. Like most places, there are no hooks for towels or clothes. Parking is secure as it is within the premises that has a large gate at the entrance. It was safe but we still had to deploy the overs, as the parrots were rather too interested in the bikes and we feared they would cause damage. The birds and other wildlife were abundant, noisy and happy to be close by - nice to enjoy breakfast and marvel at some of the birds. The 1/2 mile walk to the couple of restaurants and bars was a very nice and pleasant walk. We stayed for a few days and really enjoyed it.

United KingdomThe fan in the room kept switching off so would have been more comfortable if it was on during the whole night. But do understand if the hostel had little electricity per day.
Liked how it was in the heart of the desert. The owner was very helpful even though he couldn’t speak much English. The food was delicious and definitely all homemade to order. Loved the hammocks and had lots of area to chill when to hot to explore the desert.

NetherlandsThe co-travellers who stayed in the rooms in the main building complained a bit about acoustic separation between rooms... Get a cabaña on the grounds, and teach the parrots some new lines instead.
This is a nice hostel-level hotel in the middle of the Tatacoa desert. It's - as far as I could tell - probably the only place where you can stay to get that kind of experience (Villavieja is near enough, but somewhat loses the desert feel). Rooms are basic but honest - I slept in one of the bottle-built cabanas, staff is very nice and accommodating, it does feel a bit like staying with the family. The food is nice, I had goat and more goat. The living wildlife (a few chatty parrots, an iguana, the dogs) is great as well, and just hanging around in a hammock because it's too warm to do anything else makes perfect sense here. They do have bicycles, but I'd think that only makes sense before the sun hits you.

CanadaVery hot but expected since it's the desert! Highly recommend the room with the bottle walls instead of the ones in the main building.
Staff are honestly the best. They are extremely kind and accommodating. We had an issue and they went out of their way to provide us with the best solution. Location is great as well. 20 minutes walk from the red desert, a short bike ride away from the grey desert and 5 minutes away from the observatory!

NetherlandsNothing! Great stay and helpful staff
Very cute place in the middle of the desert, walkable to the Observatory (7pm start until about 8.30 or so, talk in Spanish then look through the telescopes). The dinner was a nice big local meal with choice of protein-- cooked for us after the kitchen closed. We stayed in the family bungalow which was big and decent for the desert, even having a fan. Note that you can only charge your phones between 7-4 in the kitchen. Abs super helpful tiip.. we drove but also if you go by bus, go to Aipe and take the ferry from 6,-6pm. Saved us over an hour and didn't have to travel on the dirt road.

Loved the location - walkable to Red desert and 5 mins to the observatory (10,000 per person 7-9pm everyday). The staff were very friendly and welcoming, they organised transport for us to Neiva and we rented bikes for 50,000 per day per bike. A tuk tuk from Villavija was 40,000. If you’re coming from Bogotá you can cross the river with a ferry at Aipe (until 16:30) to save time. Private room were comfortable and clean with a fan and mosquito net. There were plenty of chill out areas around the hotel.
