Reviews of Hotel Minca Express Relax - Base Camp

The host and the cleaning lady are very friendly and supportive throughout the stay. The common area is nice and enclosed, there is a pool and a mini gym. The refrigerator in the room and the fan was very much welcomed.

There is a local villiager pub where the local peasants gather to play Pool and drink, there was loud music from 2PM to 2AM every day during our stay. Something to keep in mind.

No AC (but several fans), there was no hot water in our room when we stayed there but to be fair we didn’t ask for help as we were only staying for one night

My stay here was fabulous! The bus from Santa Marta stops directly outside of this hotel. I was greeted by the wonderful host and offered some local chocolates as a welcome. The room was very clean and service was top notch. Nice pool. Central location and very close to all the restaurants. If you´re looking to be in the middle of Minca where everythings happening, I would suggest to stay here.

The room was small but was perfect for my needs. In the centre of Minca and with a small store attached to it. The owners were friendly and the hotel has a relaxed vibe to it. Had 2 fans which kept the room pleasant.

No hot water, but I've got used to that in SA now! WiFi only worked in the outdoor 'lobby' area

Couple that runs the place really put effort into helping tourists - they add you to whatsapp group with all the insights, you can either walk down to them or ask them things on whatsapp - really helpful. Room was OK, beware, there is no A/C - only fans but it was ok during the night there is a common area to spend time, a small kitchen is available.

Best location if you don't want to carry luggage or hire jeep - 1 min walk and you are at bus terminal. The hosts were really sweet

Extremely central location, extremely friendly staff who helped us check in and extend our stay. Excellent value for money.

It was cheap, and it felt cheap. Sheets, towels, chairs, cups. Everything was cheap and uncomfortable.

Good location right next to city center bus stop back to Santa Marta. Good if you just want to explore the area and use it as a base. The pool isn’t really a pool, just a shallow pit of water. Too many mosquitoes to hang around in common area (not a hostel issue). Fans in room were enough for sleeping at night

I'm a bit torn. The atmosphere of the place is really nice. It’s budget but mostly clean, and the location is perfect if you want easy access to everything—it’s right in the heart of Minca, next to the bus stop, close to all trailheads, restaurants, and shops. Still, it was quiet and peaceful in our room, with a nice courtyard to relax in. Free coffee is available, and you can also use the basic kitchen. The Wi-Fi is good, and the staff is nice and helpful. It’s a budget place with low prices, so don’t expect luxury, but the standard is still acceptable. There was also a fridge in the room. Love the cats ruling the place! :D Only cold water, but very common in the whole region.

The problem is—we didn’t get the room we booked. I had reserved the biggest room in the hotel, with a double bed, a sofa, a table, and other facilities not available in other rooms. We arrived in the evening tired. After being shown to our room, I immediately felt something was off—it had two single beds and was smaller and stuffy. But since the walls were the same blue color, the mirror was the same, and the red Coca-Cola fridge was identical, I initially thought I might have made a mistake. However, the next day, I compared the photos on the Booking page, and it was clearly not the same room. When I pointed out the mistake to the staff, they admitted it but only offered to move us for the last night (we had booked four nights) since the room we originally booked was already occupied. We had planned a challenging trek that day and expected to return late in the evening, so changing rooms (packing, moving stuff, unpacking again) for just one night before checking out the next day at 11 a.m. didn’t make sense. Instead, we were promised compensation—but in the end, we only received a refund of $2 per night. Even though I understand that might be worth more to them, for us, it was meaningless. The thing is, I would never have booked the room we ended up with, considering how many other options were available. The room was stuffy, it was very hot there also at night (fans very noisy), and we had to sleep apart in two single beds. I understand that mistakes happen, and I get that refunds can be difficult, but in that case, you need to find a way to make your customers feel less disappointed. And when I first brought up the issue, the staff didn’t seem surprised at all—I had the feeling they already knew about the mistake but, instead of approaching us and offering to move us to the room we had booked, they gave the biggest and most expensive room to someone else to get paid for it twice :( The bathroom standard was low but acceptable.

This is a very comfortable,clean and pleasant place to stay.Great location and although it could be noisy outside in the main street it really was no inconvenience inside the room.The room was spotlessly clean,had ample space /provision for hanging/organising clothes and luggage. and it was amazing value for money.The owners were so nice... really helpful and attentive..Highly recommended!

It could be quite hot in the room (as everywhere in Minca) but once you lugged in the two fans it soon cooled down!

Hot during the day (+33C). Fans don't help much. At night it cools down to 27C in March. Cold shower (expectedly lukewarm). There is a lack of lighting.
