Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The property was very clean and its location was perfect. It’s very close to the Calle Real. Breakfasts were excellent both days I stayed in the property.

Rooms on the smaller side but sufficient, you might hear some noise from the street but nothing unusual. Would book again
Clean double room and owner offered fresh coffee in the morning. Good location. Gracias!

The room was quite small and so a little expensive for what you get. But all in all we really enjoyed our stay with Helena for 3 nights. Quiet location but very close to walk into town.
The shower was great. The roof terrace a good place for a drink. There was a fridge to cool your drink.

The room is a bit small and basic. We heard the construction works but only during the day.
It's in a lovely quiet part of the town, and the views over the valley from the street and from the terrace upstairs were really stunning!

Bathroom is definitely too small. Noise from construction next door started at 06:30am. Will probably last until mid 2024. Was not a problem at night. And probably not a problem if you take a back room.
Friendly new hotel. Nice small room with balcony, with view over the valley below. At night very quiet, …but lots of construction work nearby. Very near acclaimed restaurant Helena and MoCafe Lovely top terrace with hammock

I didn't really enjoy the earthquake that woke me up one morning, but I can't really blame the hotel for that :)
Spotless, comfortable. Juan and Manuel who worked there couldn't have been more helpful. Great kitchen, great location. Great price.

An exceptionally good accommodation with the facilities you need and in a really good standard. A very pleasant reception from staff who took care of everything you could want in a hostel. Definitely an accommodation I will use again! Thank you so much for everything!

The lack of windows. If we go back, we would make sure we reserve the front room: it has more space, faces the front of the house and has a beautiful balcony. I would recommend putting a small table in the kitchen, so that when people eat they can sit somewhere.
House is totally new, and the hotel has been open for a couple of weeks only. Even with that little time, Manuel and Juan are pros. They know what they are doing and are very concerned about the wellbeing of their guests. We had one of the rooms at the back, which unfortunately didn’t have windows and was tight for 3 people. Bathroom was also tight (I banged my head with the doorknob when I got up from the toilet). Comfortable for us because we are not very big. Not sure how comfortable it would be for plus size people. Beds and bedding were comfortable, towels were fluffy and smelled nice. The house is close to the main street in Filandia. Everything is accessible from there. There is no parking on site, but you can park on a street near by, or in a paid parking lot a block away.

Honestly, we are very pleased with our experience at Hostal Casa Helena.
Great place to stay. Pretty close the Filandia’s main square and attractions. Manuel is a great host. Highly recommended.

Our room that stated 1st floor was actually ground floor in the hall area 10 steps away from the reception. The window (indoor window) on the website looked out onto this reception area and kitchen, so no privacy there. The walls were like paper , so early on a Sunday morning all the conversations at 7am. in reception we’re like they were in our room! We definitely would have moved before we stayed but the town was full. The description on the website was very misleading.
The room was very small but clean. The towels were fluffy and thick and the water from the shower was hot.
