Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Kitchen facilities could improve. The quality of pots and pans is quite bad. Air-con broke down one of the days and it was a lilttle unbearable to sleep at night.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Special shoutout to Felipe. Bed is big and comfortable. Huge area to chill.

One of the best hostel I have been in my trip in Colombia. The staff is super nice (a big plause to Edoardo), the place has such a good energy and it has an amazing quality/price value. 100% recommended

Filipe was extremely helpful and it was very social. It could have been cleaner and the dorm room is very hot and stuffy but beds were super. Unfortunately my earphones and powerbank was stolen out of the locket so keep your valuables locked at all times even if you are there.

It's a bit of a personal gripe as I prefer to eat my meals in nicer restaurants but none really in this neighborhood. Choices for dining are overall limited but for those on a budget, a few local eateries, a so so Chinese restaurant and a smaller but modern supermarket are nearby. The hostel does offer three choices of breakfast and on occasion pizza at night.
A good week at the hostel. Very helpful and friendly staff. Amazing wifi, maybe the fastest and most reliable I have experienced in my many stays in Colombia. My room was small, but clean, modern and a nice bathroom/shower. I did use a common shower for it had hot water. Pool, bar and lots of outdoor space to lounge around in.

Good location, huge beds, the dorm has 10 beds but it is very very big. A lot of common spaces, well equipped kitchen. Plus Felipe at the reception, he was super nice and really helpful!!

Music at the pool from ~18:00 till ~22:00 is sometimes annoying

There weren’t many people there during my visit but it was low-season in San Gil

This is probably one of the best hostels I've ever been to! The staff and the manager are just amazing. I had an issue with my bus to Bucaramanga and they went the extra mile to help me. It's huge, with a good pool, a lot of space to do yoga, be alone, and/or social. Super clean, very comfortable

I extended my stay while there and wish I could have even longer!
Amazing hostel with AMAZING staff and facilities. The manager Joss is SO incredibly helpful and speaks excellent English which is super helpful when booking activities in the area. Alex and Joss went above and beyond for a friend from the hostel who left her phone at the bus terminal accidentally and they were able to retrieve it and get it back for her from San Gil to Santa Marta… they are wonderful.
