Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The room got really hot, there was a fan but we needed to open the windows/doors to cool down
Staff were very helpful and friendly, bed was comfy and rooms were clean. Kitchen was well equipped and it was a nice location

Okay… the construction going on…. Was annoying. Noise started at 800 AM. The town is growing , the noise is the side effect of growth.
The breakfast was wonderful. The coffee was great The company of the fellow travelers made doing things more exciting. Having a kitchen to use was very helpful. The property had hammocks to lounge in.

Walls quite thin but not too noisy.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the view of the volcano from the balcony.

The kitchen always seemed dirty and messy
The owner was amazing, giving you great deals on tours. Nice little room. Fan only. Loved sitting on the balcony.

The bathroom in the double room doesn't offer a lot of privacy.
Short walk to everything, clean rooms, hot water and a good common area. Great information about tours and stuff to do in La Fortuna.

Nothing!
The staff, particularly Esther, were very friendly and informative of what to do in the area. The rooms were comfortable with big bathrooms for the private rooms. The area is quiet for sleeping but very close to all amenities (bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc.). The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. Very social but not a party hostel which was perfect for us.

The shower only ran hot once in 7 days and along with the sink in our room drained quite badly. Can also get loud at night from the surrounding houses.
The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful, there’s a group chat where the owner can organise transport to and from activities for cheaper than what’s offered in town. The kitchen is well equipped and room is big.

Upstairs private room, very small, dingy communal area was downstairs, small cramped, area no great place to hang out. We booked 3nights online but moved out same day after finding a much brighter, nicer place. Needs an upgrade

Wilson was great and super friendly, but the rooms could do with a bit of an update - it was hotter in the room than it was outside, and although great for socialising and if on a budget, there was also properties not much more expensive that were more equipped.

We liked it really much. Maybe for some people with really high standard, this wont be the right accomodation.
The owner was marvelous. He gave lots of great recommendations for several activities and does not want to sell tours like lots of others. Just perfect!!! This made our trip perfect and I highly recommend the hostel for everyone who goes to La Fortuna. The rooms were clean and we had a nice balkony to sit outside. It is a great hostel to get to know others.

Great place! Incredibly kind host and volunteers, will go out of their way to help you and generally there's a cozy home-like atmosphere. The place is quite new, so super tidy and neat, with a very well equipped kitchen! Got great recommendations for acitivities and had an overall wonderful stay. Can recommend!!

The staff here are the best. They are friendly and very knowledgeable. The owner will go the extra mile to make your stay as good as possible. Comfortable bed, hot shower, and great location that is right in town but off the main streets and quiet. The kitchen is clean and well equipped with everything. Highly recommend staying here. Great value.
