Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe breakfast was only okay. I would recommend not necessarily booking the tours through the hotel, or at least comparing prices.
If you want to spend a few nights in the middle of the jungle but can't do without the luxury of a great pool area, this is the place for you. Howler monkeys populated the trees of the complex, and at night you could hear the jungle come to life. And you should know that you have to take a boat taxi to reach the center of Tortugero, where the restaurants, all the shops, and the tour operators are located. However, the crossing is short, and you can even use the hotel boat for free at certain times. And this small inconvenience is definitely worth staying in the jungle instead of Tortugero “town.”

United KingdomThe only thing that wasn't fantastic was the food. It was lovely having somewhere all inclusive, but there wasn't always a huge amount of choice, and so for my fussy family they didn't always have much they would eat. However, that wouldn't stop me staying again!
I loved the Aninga Lodge. It is a boat ride away from Tortuguero, in the 'jungle'. I was worried about the rooms not being air conditioned, but it wasn't a problem at all because there are essentially no windows, only mesh (to keep out those bugs). The big fan, and the open design, meant that it really was wonderfully comfortable temperature wise, and totally bug free (inside). They were able to provide an extra bed, so my two teenagers didn't have to share, which was also great. There were lots of places to put our bags, so we didn't feel cramped. The room was like a little lodge, and it was really pretty inside. The pool was fabulous. Not deep, but a reasonable size, and we really enjoyed a relaxing day there (after our turtle tour the night before and our 6am tour of the waterways the next day). The whole resort had some great wildlife, with the pool being particularly good to spot things, including a troop of spider monkeys who moved from one set of trees, across the roof of the pool bar, to another set of trees; a HUGE iguana who was only an arms reach away on the tree, and a sloth (the only one we have seen), who was hanging out in the trees on both afternoons. The staff were all super helpful, and helped us book taxis when we needed to.

United KingdomLunch and dinner very limited for a vegetarian.
Beautiful hotel. The pool area was amazing with a bar and even lots of howler monkeys. The room was beautiful and the 2 female staff went above and beyond during our stay. The breakfast was delicious and on several occasions due to early tours the staff opened the restaurant earlier or later for us.

United StatesOverall, I really enjoyed staying here, my only complaint is that it seemed a little expensive for the simple accommodation.
The property was nice and clean and immersed in wildlife. The staff was super helpful and the buffet was good. The kids enjoyed the pool after a day of exploring.

United KingdomThe food for breakfast was quite basic, but it did not detract from the trip. It would be helpful for a snacking menu at the bar by the pool.
Whilst you need to get a water taxi, this hotel is completely worth being on the other side of the water. The wildlife is absolutely incredible, with monkeys outside our room and sightings of lots of other animals!

LuxembourgAll the meals are buffet / canteen style. You could not order food outside the meal hours. And there is a fixed seating during meals. Your room number is on a table you share with other guests
The room was nice although it was a bit strange that there were no windows, only moskito nets. That means that you are hearing everything around you and your clothes are all the time damp. Tbey have a pretty pool.

AustriaUnfortunately the Spa area was under renovation, which was disappointing, as we planned to book some massage service after already some intensive weeks in Costa Rica. In addition the renovation caused some noise and dust close to the pool area.
Phantastic location in the middle of the rain forest. Pure nature, which was very welcome. Surprisingly we also had some tours included in the booking, which was not known, but of course much appreciated.

CanadaWifi was not the best. It was also very hot in the rooms and a fan did not cool it down. I also tried to book a turtle tour twice and was not given clear information/direction on both occasions. We tried to book through another tour agency however this was a hassle because we were not staying in the town. On the third attempt to book the tour with our hotel we were finally given clear direction; we need to book a day in advance, once we are booked in for the tour, we will be given a concrete time (a few hours before the tour begins). In the end, we missed out on the experience. This was very disappointing.
Private bungalows with ceiling fan. Lots of wildlife and tons howler monkeys. Beautiful property with a great pool and spa. Meals were buffet style and tables were pre-assigned so no struggling to find a place to sit. Food was terrific. Loved all the food and drink options.

United StatesThe shower was confusing to use that is literally the only thing we didn't like
More animals than I have ever seen and beautiful rooms. All of the activities were a blast especially the hike where we saw tons of birds and monkeys. The guides were super nice and everything -- food, transportation, excursions -- was really really well organized and convenient. The food was also great, and every meal was different. We WILL stay here again

United StatesFrom the moment of our arrival until our departure, we felt as if we had entered a lavish retreat and were treated like VIPs. The fine accommodations, delicious meals (best we had in CR), wonderful tours, and staff's passionate care and attention to every detail, made this part of our journey exceptional. A special shout out to Dai and Bernardo whose warmth and expertise are unsurpassed in our travels. We saw wildlife we would never have seen on our own and gained much knowledge from the experience.

United StatesWe took a turtle nesting tour with the hotel and didn’t see any which is fine but we had to stand in the same area for 2 hours. I heard there was a night walk from other tour companies and wish I had done that instead.
I liked the location. It was beautiful. The cottages were cute and clean. The food was pretty decent. The dinner buffet was $20 per person so a good value.

United KingdomFood is poor. You don’t really have a choice but to go full board, but it is like school dinners - canteen style. Haven’t eaten food this disappointing in a long time - little variety, tepid, lacking in flavour- bland, either undercooked or overcooked. Weirdly, huge tour groups seem to visit the hotel, they block the walkways for getting around and don’t move so you can’t get to your room etc. they also stand all around your lounger/chair by the pool and watch you swim. The person who organises tours for you is really helpful (Deikel) but unfortunately reception seem to have no idea what you are doing or when you are doing it, so you spend a lot more time trying to sort it out when you get there.
Location is lovely as are the hotel grounds. Room, though basic, is clean and fine. Swimming pool is really nice, kept very clean and has lots of wildlife that visits. Bar is good and well priced for cocktails.
