Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Would have enjoyed more chairs since we were a family of five and there were only four chairs to use.
Liked the location, which was a little off the main road, so it was nice and quiet. The facilities were old but working, and we found the laundry room really useful for our purposes. Overall, it was worth the money to house our entire family for this vacation comfortably.

Our villa didn't have air conditioning in the common areas, only in the bedrooms, so we couldn't really hang out in the living room together because it was so hot. The shower in the bathroom didn't want to properly drain, and the laundry's humidity made the whole villa smell a bit "wet". If you're unlucky, loud free roaming chicken will wake you up in the morning.
You truly get the vibe of being in the middle of the jungle here. Beautiful and lush landscaping, hidden and private pools, hammock in the back - all here to make you calm and relaxed. You can get their local style breakfast in the back, surrounded by gorgeous tropical plants. The pools are open until quite late, and since it's not a big property you could easily find time when there are no other people around. The car can safely be parked in the front of the villa.

The curtains covering the whole room and facing the complex were see-through at night, so felt a bit uncomfortable really relaxing in our own space. Weird door in the shower into another area (unknown area!) which although was locked from our side, had a gap above the door. Quite an odd set-up, felt like someone could look over the shower (or come in!) at any point.
Nice location a bit out of town, comfortable and very clean, great hammocks and lovely pool.

The pool was run down, the property was quite small and most walking paths were around other units; overall it wasn't the same vibe as the pictures.
The staff were the best part of our stay, super friendly and nice to chat with. It was also a very quiet spot, so we enjoyed that. We definitely enjoyed the king bed, and the ac was working great!

Appliances were very old and not useful, we rented for convenience of kitchen but did not cook and big meals there
Had enough beds/rooms to accommodate a family of 5, was hard to find suitable accommodations in La Fortuna for our family (2 adults, 2 teenagers and a baby). The only alternative was to rent a house on VRBO, Price for Aunty Arenal was better than VRBO.

The wifi did not work in my room, only outside sitting on a somewhat uncomfortable chair.
The location was in a quiet area away from the Main Street of town, which I liked. The grounds were beautiful and the room was clean.

Beds were not great. Roosters started at 5:30, so then the dog started barking, I guess that’s par for CR.
Breakfast was great. Location was good. Staff was friendly. Pool was clean, as was our room.

It's a tropical garden in a walled compound a little way out of town. They serve a wonderful breakfast poolside each morning.

Pictures make the place look better than it is. We stayed for 5 days and there was no other guests the whole time. Cockroach in kitchen made us stay away from cooking.
Terrible mattress was exchanged with one they had in another room. I was happy that they were able to accomadate that, since the other mattress was awful.

The property is completely run down. Everything is broken. We got a room with 3 beds but it was a kitchen with 3 beds. Horrible. We got a better room next morning. The walls are so thin you can hear every word. Very sad. It could be a very nice place, but looks like nobody takes care of it.
Location is great. Beautiful garden. Very quiet. Good breakfast. Nice stuff.

Nothing in particular The kitchen amenities could be better. As such this should be ok for short stays but for longer stays people might need a few more conveniences

room needed a lot of care. sliding door was Bratton and hard to lock, fridge was broken and did not work. beds were crammed in. paint and fixtures were just sloppy and needed care. hot tub was not working. was told recent gutsy broke it. But judging by the looks of it, I don't think the hot has worked for months.

Everything could be better, bathroom is not very nice or clean (found 2 bugs that looked like cockroaches) . Room is super basic, not a lot of space where to put your things or hang a towel. Some beds creak like crazy. Breakfast is basic, rice and beans and eggs, no fruits or any variety.
Location is nice, away from the hustle of the main street in La Fortuna. Landscaping is also pretty nice.
