How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat location, near to so many restaurants, supermarket and the town of La Fortuna. Property itself was very well maintained… lush, well attended to gardens, and coming home to the jacuzzi was an added plus!

Verified reviewRooms were really clean, getting in with self check in was easy, price was affordable. Wish there was a pool at this residence but the jacuzzi was easy to figure out. Loved it!
Area still up and coming so not much of a view due to construction.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay at BAUMA, can’t recommend it enough and would happily have stayed longer! The location was great, (across the road from North Fields Coffee and Chocolate tour which is well worth doing) and only took a few minutes by car to all the La Fortuna local restaurants. We stayed in Villa 1 as a family of 3. We loved the privacy of the villa, it was spotlessly clean, the bed linen and beds were super comfy, a well equipped kitchen (not that we cooked). The lounge area was great to relax in, we connected the tv to our Netflix account. The pool was rather refreshing but lovely to relax by after a day exploring the area! Being able to do laundry was an added bonus! Housekeeping came in daily and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you.
Nothing!

Verified reviewI stayed in one of the loft properties at BAUMA and it was an incredible experience. The property is finished to an exceptionally high standard and is architecturally impressive. Being able to view Arenal Volcano from the upper deck, while drinking my morning coffee; and lounging in the hot tub under shelter, listening to the sound of thunder while it poured with rain, are two experiences that will stay with me. Would absolutely recommend.

Verified reviewThe villa was amazing on the inside and out. Landscaping was gorgeous and we saw an iguana and some beautiful birds by our pool. We even saw toucans in the trees near the property.
It’s a bit of a hike to get to restaurants or the market, but that wasn’t a problem for us, because we had a car.

Verified reviewIt was by far the best hotel we stayed at in Costa Rica. This brand-new place is incredibly cool and stylish. The decor was stunning, and everything was spotless. Having a kitchen in the room made us really happy, and having a private jacuzzi in the garden was amazing. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I absolutely, without a doubt, highly recommend it!

Verified reviewWe liked the modern aesthetic. It was clean and the finishes were well thought out
The villa needed more hooks to hang towels and things There could have been some additional styles of chairs at the pools to sit and have morning coffee

Verified reviewA very beautiful and stylish room—every corner is worth photographing. The kitchen has almost everything you need to prepare something simple. The area is very quiet and secluded; in the morning, you can only hear birds singing. There is a hot tub in the patio (just make sure to adjust the temperature in advance, as the default setting is very hot). On the roof, there is a small birdwatching area—we even spotted a couple of toucans from there. The staff quickly resolves any issues (communication is via WhatsApp chat).
Almost none, but if being picky, the kitchen lacks a kettle, and the shower has only a rainfall showerhead, which can sometimes be inconvenient if you don’t want to get your head wet

Verified reviewEvery detail is thought of in this place, and it is completely eco-friendly. It is extremely private. Each room has its own garden and jacuzzi. There is also a balcony with great bird watching . This is my second time staying and I will be back again.
There is construction in the property behind the hotel. It's not noisy - but not as pretty as the first time when there was no construction going on. There's nothing they can do about it, as its private property. Nonetheless, it was another delightful visit.

Verified reviewWe did a tour of Costa Rica and it was probably the best place we stayed, beautiful new rooms, little modern kitchen, beautiful shower and jacuzzi! The view from the top balcony (each room has one) is breathtaking. I have never seen anything like it! Friendly staff, easy to communicate via what’s up any time! 10 minutes from the Arenal volcano.

Verified reviewVery clean and quiet. Felt safe. Great communication by staff. Personal hot tub was nice. Daybed on upper patio with view of the volcano. We walked to downtown Fortuna (approx 1 mile) or took an Uber if at night.
No instructions for hot tub on the hot tub itself.

Bathroom shower is open air (although fantastic) , you need to keep the door closed so ac in the room cools. Not a deal breaker but that was our only negative

Verified reviewWe loved staying at Bauma!! It was so stylish, comfortable, and spacious with the hot tub patio and the upper outdoor veranda. The staff were accommodating and Celeste, our real virtual concierge, was very attentive! Our only wish was that there was a proper 24/7 reception. It would have made the experience perfect.
