We really enjoyed our stay at Black Bamboo. Tonet & Nadia are exceptional hosts who made sure we felt welcome and were available all the time throughout our stay. The room was cleaned every day and laundry service was included, which was very valuable for us as a family with a small kid. The hosts even offered us sweet pancakes for breakfast some of the days, which was a very nice gesture. They also helped us figuring out the transport from San Jose to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca and connecting us with the driver directly, which was very helpful. All in all our stay has been great and we highly recommend Tonet and Nadia’s Black Bamboo for a nice and relaxing stay on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

Absolutely perfect location, beautiful accommodations and the friendliest and most helpful and responsive hosts. Truly a gem. My ONE critique, and it may be of Costa Rica more generally, but there is constant moisture in the air and on every surface, all bedding etc. I’m VERY sensitive to mold and mildew so after awhile I did feel my allergies start to flare up. But again, not sure that was specific to Bamboo or Costa Rica generally but I will say that I did not experience the allergy issue on the next leg of my stay in Manuel Antonio

Everything was wonderful.

We loved the location because it was quiet at night, only a 10 minute walk into town, and we felt very safe walking even at night. The parking area is enclosed so the car was secure. Nadia was a really wonderful host - very kind, gracious and helpful. The room was clean and well appointed. The room had its own mini-refrigerator plus we had access to a full outdoor kitchen, well-stocked with cooking supplies. We just loved lounging on our private balcony and at the shaded pool. The best part was that Black Bamboo provided free unlimited filtered water to drink and morning coffee. After traveling through Costa Rica and seeing how expensive things are (including water), we really appreciated being able to fill our water bottles there. Overall, this was a terrific experience and we'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Downstairs room 4. Some noise above with floorboards. However don't be put off as room and location great. Quiet generally.

Some noisy building works which were taking place during my stay. Also the little pool was sometimes occupied by the owners' family/children so couldn't be used by guests.

It's a perfect place to stay. I would highly recommend.

It’s not cabins. So you have to have some consideration for your neighbors . Apart from the fact it is beautiful and everyone was so nice , it does feel just a little overpriced , or maybe, value for money is a little ahead of the sweet spot ..

It’s beautiful and the owners go out of their way to make you feel comfortable . Very clean , the availability to use aircon or fan is nice (I mostly prefer fan) and the water filter system for nice cold and hot water

Very nice small scale accommodation, beautiful room and bathroom, very clean. A porch/balcony to enjoy your own breakfast or a nice cold beer. There is a common kitchen area where some free coffee and cereals are provided. There is a swimming pool and they provide clean towels. Washing is included as well. Close to the beach, just 600m down the road. We really enjoyed staying at this place!

There is nothing to complain about!

Absolutely stellar! The rooms are lovely, clean and spacious; exactly as depicted. You get your own clothesline to dry your clothes outside, there is a well-equipped outdoor kitchen and a pool in great condition. Also, there is a free laundry service EVERY day, you will find your clothes folded up tidely on your bed when you come back from your day trip. The hosts, Nadia and Tonet, are very friendly and helpful, for example they hooked us up with a trusted tuk-tuk driver for tranfers.

The building's floor is fairly thin and bouncy, this meant there was some noise from below but this was not a big problem.

Black Bamboo is absolutely idyllic! It's quiet, calm, friendly and their service is attentive. The free laundry service was such a great touch and the pool was so clean and refreshing. The kitchen is well equipped and the rooms are super clean and spacious. We took a private tour with the owners friend which was an awesome day filled with fishing (we caught 2 big baracuda and 8 lobsters), snorkling (we saw a shark, 2 sting rays and load of beautiful fish!) and hiking through the jungle (we saw sloths, a camen, basilisk lizzards, butterflies, plants and much more!) Thank you Black Bamboo!

We could not have gotten luckier choosing the Black Bamboo! We made last minute reservations with them after our other accommodations fell through and Nadia agreed with us so warmly. Only wish we could have stayed longer!

Very hard to find at first. Rough road to property.

Nice pool and washing done everyday. Room cleaned daily. Kitchen area could be used. Staff helpful.

The perfect place!! We stayed for 4 nights! Clean and beautiful, the host is very nice, we stayed in room number 1 and it was great to be on 1st floor. There is laundry service included which was very comfortable. The kitchen well equipped and the pool is amazing! Safe parking place inside the house, in a walk distance from the town! Highly recommended!

Points to consider: - relatively small room - if on ground floor, ppl, including the resident family, pass your room/veranda - you can easily hear the neighbours left and above when walking on floor - pool wasnt cleaned from branches/leaves after nightly rain. It is at the end of a dead-end gravel road; yes, you can walk to town, but probably not many times. Parking is tight when full.

Definitely a place I can recommend, but I just want to put the early excellent comments in perspective (not saying they are wrong) Positive: Only 4 units, open air common area for breakfast or similar; nice pool, additional pool/beach towels. Nice garden

Need to take under consideration the monkeys can get pretty loud in the early mornings for those who are light sleepers. The pool looked clean however to small to tempt me.

The place itself and the room was very pretty and clean. Every morning the staff came in cleaned and replaced the sheets and towels. In the entrance there is a cooler with fresh clean water so we didn't need to buy a lot of water. And the air conditioner was a life saver!

I had a private balcony that no one could access. I felt safe. The stairs led right to my room. The room was beautifully decorated. It was clean and cozy. Loved that there was air condition that I could use or windows that I could also open. Loved hearing the jungle sounds of Costa Rica at 4:30am.

I wish I could have arrived in the day that I was supposed to arrive to fully enjoy my time in Puerto Viejo! It would also have been nice to have a late checkout; but overall I had an amazing stay and enjoyed!

Nadia and Tonet were amazing hosts and extremely helpful. The property also is very relaxing and comfortable, and very clean in the rooms. I had an amazing time at Black Bamboo & would stay again! :)

Absolutely nothing

Beautiful property. There are only four rooms, giving a very quiet and cosy vibe. Rooms are well finished and well proportioned with good air con and wifi. Short walk to the town and bakery for breakfast. Really well run by a lovely, accommodating family. We were gutted to leave.

There is absolutely nothing negative I could say about this place!

We stayed here for 6 nights and it was one of the best small hotel experiences we've ever had! Owned and run by a Spanish family, they have done a fantastic job creating a wonderful experience for guests. The photos posted online don't do it justice—everything is so much better in reality! The property consists of only four rooms, each very clean and cozy, with tasteful decorations. Daily room cleaning, fresh towels and a free laundry service were included, which was super considerate of the owners. The AC worked great, and there was high water pressure with hot water. A shared open kitchen and a wonderful saltwater pool were definite bonuses! The property is tucked away from the main street, making it super peaceful and quiet. Overall, we couldn't be happier—such a delightful experience!
