Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomSteep stairs, but they helped with our luggage!
Great views from our balcony looking towards the forest rather than the sea. We saw spider monkeys, toucans, iguanas, crimson macaws and lots more. Staff really helpful. Great breakfast location looking out to sea, and good breakfast. Room was really nice - elegant layout and nice fixtures. Air conditioning was welcome after hiking in the heat and humidity. Short walk to several places to eat, supermarkets and beach.

United StatesWe were there a super short time, so not much to complain about. We did notice a large nest? Swarm? Of black insects on a pipe on the side of the bungalow at the far lefthand corner of the deck (as you're facing the ocean). It's not the primary deck, where we spent our time. We noticed it because the kiskadees and flycatchers were on the railing there catching the insects, fun to watch 😂. No big deal for us, but Las Contingas might want to check it out for more sensitive guests, or at least make them aware. We didn't tell Las Cotingas this when we were leaving, by the way (because it really didn't matter to us) but maybe should have.
We arrived at Las Contingas after spending two nights at the Sirena Ranger Station in Corcovado National Park and had to walk from the boat landing up the many stairs to the reception with our large backpacks on a hot sunny July day. We were drenched and exhausted when we reached the desk. The front desk person had his associate make us a couple of free smoothies when he saw us! Such kindness was above and beyond and extremely appreciated ❤️ The AC in the room was cold and the view from our extra large patio was amazing. Our bungalow ended up being halfway up the steps, so we didn't have to walk all the way up every time (although wouldn't have been a problem either way) and it seemed well stocked. We all slept very well that night! We were there a very short time as we had to leave for new destinations the following morning. In retrospect, I wish we'd scheduled an early breakfast first because it looked and smelled really good when we were checking out.

IrelandThe food service was average and better options could be found elsewhere.
Excellent facilities, and stunning views. We had a lovely garden view room that was spacious, immaculately clean and had a gorgeous balcony. The mini fridge was great and the bathroom was impeccable. The sea views from the dining area are honestly breathtaking. The proximity to the beach was great and we really appreciated being collected from the beach in the rain!!

United KingdomEverything is slightly more expensive than you think it's going to be - but it's worth it for this hotel and for the area in general which is super special.
Even more beautiful than it looks in the photos. Hotel had booked us into the boat from Sierpe (easy transfer from the Tracopa bus from Manuel Antonio) and met us on the beach and helped carry bags up the steps to the hotel (the steps are fine and guarantee you a fabulous view!) Our room had an amazing balcony with a bath tub looking right out onto Drake Bay where we sat in the evenings to watch lightening storms light up the Bay - and saw plenty of hummingbirds and toucans right next to us. I doubt there are many better breakfast/dinner locations anywhere in the world. Wonderful breakfasts (we tried the Typical and the Pancake breakfasts) which they will serve as early as 5:30 so that you can make your tour(s) on time. Filter water available at all times. Lovely staff. Hotel booked us onto the two tours we wanted to do - with la Piccolino Tours - to Caño Island and to San Pedrillo in Corcovado. Both tours were superb, with very knowledgeable, eager and kind guides - Claudio and Bolle (sp?). The hotel is very close to the pick up/drop off point for the tours leaving Drake Bay and for the boat to/from Sierpe. No ATMs so be prepared. Lovely restaurants/cafes in town. Wonderful hotel, wont forget this stay for a long time.

United StatesOur unit was next to the dining area. Excursions start early and breakfast starts at 5:30. It could be noisy if you didn't need to get up at 6am. Room was large but had no chairs at all. We "borrowed" a couple from the dining area, but there should be some in the room.
Breakfast ($10USD) was very good and included fruit, choice of main, juice and coffee/tea. Coffee was out erly so you could have a cup in the room if you wanted to start the day before coming to breakfast. View was fantastic - we had a deluxe ocean view double. Weather was very hot. AC worked well and hot water was great and plenty of pressure. Did have a decent sea breeze, especially in dining area. Staff friendly nd helpful. Abel, who was on the desk was available for arranging transport, etc. Dinner from the kitchen was also very good. Excellent ceviche and fish dishes. Comparably priced or better than places in town. Beds were comfortable. The steps are challenging in the heat, but that is made clear in their description. Town is an easy walk (there's a small market quite nearby) and numerous other markets, a bakery and a few bars and restaurants. As opposed to the stairs, you can go up/down via the drive in the back. This is a very steep concrete ramp, but does leave you closer to the main part of town.

United StatesThis is very minor and really not a big deal, it didn’t affect our stay at all. But the art work on the walls and their placement could use a lot of help.
Very clean, comfortable rooms. Great value, good location. The stairs are rough at the hottest part of the day, especially if you are walking up them with a backpack and suitcase. Beautiful views

CanadaSlight lack of privacy for our room as it was right next to the restaurant. The room was very sparce and could have been more comfortable, only 1 night stand for 2 beds, no garbage can in room, no where to hang things, no art on walls. One of our 2 beds was very uncomfortable, unfortunately.
Great views for breakfast, nice staff, and great location for being in Drake Bay. The breakfast for 10$ was really nice (I recommend the typical breakfast!). The AC was nice and needed, and you could easily book tours and a taxi through the hotel. The staff was very helpful and accommodating and the garden area around the hotel was very nice.

CanadaIf you want to purchase breakfast you must order it the evening before by 7pm. Also if you can't handle stairs then stay away (and leave these rooms for the rest of us!)
This place was paradise. We stayed in a 2 bedroom ocean view cabin and could have easily spent our entire time just on the balcony. Location could not be better within town, close to everything but you won't hear any traffiic, just ocean waves. Lots of great restaurants close by (we loved Bucanero's which was just 5 min walk to the west) plus the hotel restaurant likely has best view in town. Finally this place has daily maid service, I'd forgotten how amazing that is!!!

GermanyNot much to say, maybe the Wi-Fi didn’t work very well, but we didn’t come for that to this remote location. Would you have to know is, you have to climb a number of stairs to get to this hotel, but staff will help you with the luggage if needed.
Very convenient location up on the hill, just five minutes from the beach and also from where the boat tours start in the morning. Excellent view from the restaurant Terrace to the ocean, we also spend here an afternoon having a Batida watching Tucan and Macaws fly by. Excellent staff, they prepared breakfast as early as 5:30 a.m. for an on-time start to our multi day trip into Corcovado, also we were allowed to leave our car on their private parking lot for theattime we were in the national park. Truly outstanding service. The rooms are spacious and very clean, large bathrooms, well working A/C.

United StatesThe drain in our sink started slow and then stopped. The counter man came quickly and kind of fixed it once. Since we were only there for two nights, we didn't ask for further help and just worked around it.
Location @ the top of the hill overlooking Drake Bay. Open air dining patio was fantastic. Very friendly and helpful staff. They carried my wife's bag up and down the hill to our car. The food was great.
