How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content

- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewOur stay at Heliconias was generally excellent. The staff was great and when we had a lot of ants in our original room (it is the jungle :), they moved us to a bigger room right away. Breakfast was good, best gallo pinto we had in CR, though a bit repetitive after a couple of days. The room was clean, bathroom was great and everything worked well. Location wise, it is a bit farther from La Fortuna and the attractions beyond that. I didn't realize that 17km in CR can be up to 30 mins each way. But if you're looking for a nice getaway away from everything else, Heliconias is awesome!

There were a couple unexpected power outages but they were restored within minutes. The hot springs were nice but not very hot unfortunately. Location is beautiful but very far (30+ mins) from La Fortuna so it makes tours long and inconvenient.

Verified reviewThe property was available on short notice, which was very convenient. I liked the large windows in the bungalow and the two hammocks, which, while not the most comfortable, were a nice touch. The place was clean, and the staff was very welcoming. A highlight was the restaurant staff member who let us feed the fish!
The price was too high for the quality, and the location was far from everything. While generally clean, the floors weren’t washed properly. The hot springs were outdated, had an unappealing design, and smelled of chlorine. They weren’t inviting, unlike other hot springs in La Fortuna. The breakfast was disappointing, with very few options that remained the same every day. You could choose from a set menu, but after trying almost all of them, none were tasty. They definitely need to improve the menu.

We are not a luxury spa, but rather a space for those seeking tranquility in a more organic environment. As for breakfast, we offer five menu options and a buffet with fruits, cereals, coffee, homemade bread, and juices—something that most of our guests enjoy. We’re sorry if it didn’t meet your expectations, but we are always open to improvement. We appreciate your visit and your opinion. Verified reviewBeautiful property! Only there for 1 night but we had a fantastic experience. We did the night walk tour with Victor and got to see amazing wildlife. It was a highlight of the trip for my kids. Also saw a mama and baby sloth on the property. The grounds are stunning. Restaurant was really good too. We loved our bungalow with the hammocks. The hot springs were a bonus. Would definitely recommend this to others!

We regret any inconvenience regarding the cleaning service. Our team works diligently to ensure that rooms are cleaned daily during each guest’s stay. We also regularly replenish bathroom amenities such as shampoo and toilet paper, as well as bottled water in the minibar and coffee, all of which we provide at no additional cost upon request. If cleaning was not performed at any time, it may have been because our staff noticed guests inside the room and chose not to disturb their rest. In such cases, we always check with guests to coordinate cleaning at a time that is most convenient for them. We also want to emphasize that the requested amenities were provided accordingly. Regarding our restaurant, we offer a varied menu with several options, although we regret that it did not meet your expectations. Fortunately, most of our guests highly value the quality of our cuisine and the warm service we provide with Costa Rican hospitality. We would have loved to receive your feedback during your stay so we could have addressed any concerns immediately. Upon check-out, we asked if everything was fine, and you confirmed that it was. Verified reviewI would give this place 6 stars if I could. They treated us like a 5-star hotel would. So friendly, and wonderful amenities at the hotel: good restaurant, walks, hot springs, pool, night hikes, etc. We loved the room: very clean, comfy bed and pillow, fantastic towel sculptures, beautiful landscaping. I would come back here in a heartbeat.

Verified reviewEven though it poured rain the entire time, one of the guides pointed out where we could still watch lots of birds from the open air restaurant in spite of the rain. We saw three types of toucans! The staff was excellent. When we got ready to leave, a staff member noticed we had a flat tire. He and another staff person (Alejandro) immediately jumped in to help inflate the tire, then led us to the tire shop and instructed them to fix it. It’s a lovely property and was our second visit. The staff is very responsive and helpful. And they are quick to arrive with golf carts to take you where you need to go.
That it poured rain the entire time we were there! It would’ve been nice to have a large umbrella at every room. Also, I wish they didn’t use scented toilet paper. The chemicals in the toilet paper can cause irritation. I had to use my own untreated Kleenex to avoid problems. As an ecologically-oriented Hotel, I think it would be nice to avoid the use of chemicals anyway.

Hotsprings were on the cold side of the spectrum. They can be used only after 3 pm. Restaurant is expensive, but the portions are huge. No kids menu.
