Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe loved eveyrthing!! The only thing to note is the road that every other review mentions :) it is not too bad once you do it a couple of times though
We loved Canta la Rana!!! Everything was lovely- the view, the location, the hosts, the design of the space… it was a perfect remove from our daily lives and a beautiful place to disconnect. The Queen suite is stunning- super relaxing and tranquil. It was such a nice place to come home to after exploring the area, the pool and balconies both have gorgeous views and you really feel like you’re in the treetops. Patrick and Juan Carlos were amazing hosts, they gave great recommendations for restaurants and local activities. Each breakfast they prepared was thoughtful and delicious, it was one of our favorite parts of the visit.

United StatesTruly there was nothing we didn't like. It was a 10-level experience for us.
This is one of the best places we have stayed not only in Costa Rica but around the world. The room was incredible, the view amazing and the service was impeccable. The breakfast that the team put together each morning was amazing -- lots of homemade items like the bread, jams and juices. This was truly a magical stay for us. We'll be back.

United States- nothing, it was really perfect, all what we need
Everything! - the location: remote enough that you feel like you’re alone but also close to very good restaurants for dinner (San Miguel, honestly the best restaurant we’ve been during all our trip in Costa Rica), lunch options by the sea and convenient stores - the villa: Canta la Rana is a little paradise, even better in real life than on the pictures! The villa is so beautiful, decorated with tastes and well furnished with a bar, little kitchen, boards games (loved it!) and an outdoor shower that is just perfect. - the view: the pictures already say it all, it’s breathtaking :) - the pool: goes with the villa, it’s juste like a little paradise - the breakfast: we’d read about it but it is true, our hosts were wonderful cooks and we had the best breakfast every morning! So good - the hosts: the place would not be like that without Patrick and Juan Carlos, who’ve created this little paradise. A little plus for French people as one of the host is ;)

United StatesAbsolutely nothing! I wanted to live there.
Oh my gosh, this place is a magical paradise! Just go. You'll be transported to a supremely relaxing and decadent beach jungle. We stayed in the room with its own infinity pool - WORTH IT! Breakfasts are divine, the views are off the charts, all the finishings are gorgeous and thoughtful. We kept noticing cool touches and said nothing is overlooked or unplanned at Canta La Rana. They've seriously thought of everything ! You'll marvel at the location and wonder how in the world did they build such an amazing retreat on this high ridge. But it's perfect! And very, very close to the beach (although you'll want to drive, and have a 4x4 - no joke)!

United StatesIt's not that we didn't like the location but guests should know that the property is off the beaten path and accessible via some rough and unpaved roads. So be sure to rent a four wheel drive and just prepare to take more time on these back roads than you would on highway driving. The benefit of being more out of the way than more touristy hotels is the privacy and unspoiled beauty that has been lost to over-touristed destinations. When was the last time you could stand on a 100 yard wide beach and look 2 miles up and down that beach without seeing another person?
The setting of the property was breathtaking...perched on the top of a high hill overlooking the ocean with a perfectly unobstructed view. Every detail designed by architect and host tied together beautifully...no detail is overlooked and nothing was left to chance from the building locations, materials used, down to the furniture was all designed by Patrick to tie together perfectly. The infinity pool facing directly at the Pacific is unbeatable. And with only 3 units on the property you feel like you have this whole expansive and luxurious space to yourself. Breakfasts were very impressive and creative as well. Patrick and Juan Carlos were the most gracious hosts you could possibly ask for. Can't speak more highly about this place and it's owners.

Canta la Rana is an absolute gem, a true oasis tucked away in the forests along the coast of Guanacaste. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the hospitality of Juan and Patrick - truly embodying Pura Vida! Our room at Canta la Rana felt like a sanctuary of comfort and elegance and provided a private and spacious retreat. The entire property is tastefully decorated and was impeccably clean. The panoramic views are nothing short of spectacular. The architecture and design seamlessly blend with the beauty of the landscape. Canta La Rana is a tranquil and sophisticated haven, where every moment feels like a delight. The breakfast prepared by Juan and Patrick was brought to our room every morning upon request and became a highlight of our day. They offered a delicious variation of fruits, egg options, homemade bread and beverages. Juan and Patrick went above and beyond, even arranging to have our car washed and our tire fixed. We can highly recommend Canta La Rana!
