How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe loved our stay at this lodge in the forest. We booked only 1 night but could have definitely stayed longer. We felt at home, the host was very friendly, the facilities were clean and great. We loved falling asleep and waking up with the sounds of the forest/animals/rain. We truly had a blast :-)
I believe you need to have your own vehicle to reach the property and get around.

Verified reviewThe location was fantastic, remote but still close to town. The garden is really impressive. The house was very nice, plenty of space and 2 terraces with magnificent views. The host Wendy is really helpful. She is so kind. We also had dinner and breakfast prepared by her mother. Let me say that this was one of the best experiences we had. The food was so fresh, delicious and there was plenty. Thanks to Wendy we also found the waterfall located at their neighbor Carlos. Carlos showed us his trees full of monkey. The waterfall was really magnificent! A hidden gem! The same goes for this location and guesthouses!
The experience was above expectation, so nothing to change.

Verified reviewAmazing wooden eco house set in lovely surroundings. Slept really well in the large bedroom. Woke up to the sound of howler monkeys. There is a choice of four verandas to sit on to watch the wildlife and be amongst nature. The Eco house is well equipped with kichen and dining area to sit in. We decided to opt for dinner and breakfast. Both prepared by the owner's mother and they were amazing. So delicious and you don't go hungry. This was a return visit for us and we are so glad we came back. Good location for our last night in Costa Rica as just 70km from San Jose airport.

Verified reviewThis rustic place was part of just 2 cabins and had great birding and cute dogs on the property that escorted us to the nearby waterfall (be careful on the rundown stairs going to the falls). It didn’t bother us to have no air conditioning, the fan made it comfortable at night. Our hosts were very nice! It was a family operation with several homes there.
The shower didn’t have hot water until we were shown the breaker that had tripped, also in the bathroom. Some people might not like the gekkos or other occasional critters inside (it really wasn’t that bad). I would have liked more seating in the living room and better lighting for reading. Likewise a side table by the bed in the loft for the lamp and my water would have been nice.

Verified reviewWendy’s place is incredible, a beautiful house, private and surrounded by nature. The nights were with perfect temperature and you sleep with the sound of nature, something we needed to get accustomed with. But we had the best sleep for 4 nights! We booked the full experience with breakfast and dinners brought dearly by Wendy’s mom, who was a bit like our mom too. If you speak a bit of spanish, this will stay as your favorite memory of the house, like for us. The waterfall of the neighbour’s property is also superb and had it just for us, is bigger than it looks on photos! We also saw some toucans from the balcony and hummingbirds. A little paradise we recommend to everyone.

Verified reviewMiddle of the rainforest sits their cute little wood cabin. There is not glass only mesh windows which is nice but a bit loud in the night with animals and rain. The washroom is clean with warm water shower that requires a bit of tinkering to get. Wendy and her family was so nice to us even though we only stayed a day. The location is near the Tirimbina reserve so we stayed here for the night walk. Cute dog too! Hummingbirds were right outside the cabin feasting on flowers.
A little out of the way of La Virgen, but beautiful property. Can be a bit loud at night with the pouring rain.

Verified reviewBirds, birds and more birds! Not to mention a lovely volunteer guide dog for the easy waterfall trail, and a 3-toed sloth spotted along that trail. And the wakeup call from howler monkeys. Great spot to reconnect with nature in very comfortable cabin-style house. Mama's brekky was superb too (extra charge). Note there is a small fee for the trail use.
The Google map location is about 100 yards off, which threw us off arriving in the dark when signage was not visible - best to get details from owner.

Verified reviewLocation in nature and host, Wendy, was a lovely informative lady. I recommend the bird watching tour and the White water rafting with Green Rivers was excellent. You must also do the 20 min walk to Poza Azul waterfall (the dogs will guide you there!) which is stunning.
Internet is very limited but that is actually a good thing as you get to enjoy nature more.

Verified reviewReally enjoyed this house - breakfast served by Wendy’s mama was delicious and an highlight of the trip!! The house is accessible by car but then isolated and so peaceful. You can hear all nature around and observe birds anytime. Nice furniture (bed, kitchen, balconies…). I highly recommend!

Verified reviewThis place is different. It is very special. It is off the beaten track and very simple. But it is beautiful and filled with love. The house is quite big and built all out of wood. Many of the windows don’t have glass but have very useful mosquito screening. This means you are much closer to nature and especially its sounds. There are fantastic birds in the area. You can hear the howler monkeys but we didn’t see them. There are three big terraces to watch the forest from and to just sit on these is a healing experience in itself One of the dogs will take you a beautiful waterfall in a very ancient site. It’s true, you are led by the dog! Wendy and her Mum look after you. The Mum brings your meals to your house and they are served with such tenderness and devotion. You are made to feel very special. Wendy is very knowledgeable about the local eco system and takes great care of it. If you like smart hotels that are all the same, this is not the place for you. But if you want to be cared for, immerse yourself gently in nature and lower your heart rate and blood pressure, and perhaps hear some niggling internal questions about what matters most to you in life, then this is the place for you!
It is worth knowing that it is not easy to reach by public transport! We did in on a bus from San Jose and then there is a local bus. Some will find that a challenge. To explore the local area, you might find it best coming here by car.

Verified reviewMy husband and I loved the privacy of staying in a rustic house on a private property. We were able to order home-cooked meals that were delivered and served to us without having to leave the premises. Birds everywhere and a beautiful hike down to an awesome waterfall topped off the experience (see pics). Thank you, Wendy and family!

Verified reviewLovely location surrounded by nature, we woke up with the sound of howler monkeys and saw a big group of them from the balcony of the house. Lots of beautiful birds incl two different types of toucans. Did the frog tour with Wendy and saw frogs and snakes. A short walk from the house there is a waterfall with a nice swimming spot in the middle of the forest. If you love nature this is the place to be. The house is very spacious and has a good shower. 10 minute drive from shops, restaurants and other activities.
Kitchen is very basic, only fit to prepare a simple meal.
