How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe had a great time at Casa Federico. The views are incredible of the ocean and wildlife. We had Parakeets come visit us every day. We had just one hiccup when the A/C unit started making a loud noise. We called Rey and he was on it immediately. He told us he was going to install a new. We went out on our adventures for the day and when we returned the problem was solved with a new unit. Great job and thank you Rey and Casa Federico!!!

Unfortunately this place is misssold as bedroom and living room, but it’s not true and we were left with one bed in the outside terrace we’re it’s packed with insects and bugs, not too mention monkeys . The host shrugged shoulders and said but you would wake up with the sound of the ocean. The construction site nearby woke us up at 5am every day after a few hours sleep because of tin roof above the bedroom and twigs and other debris falling off the trees above. Wouldn’t recommend this place

Verified reviewMagnificent sea view from our room. Having a beer in the hanging chairs with sea view was great. Very spacious living room. The living room and indirectly the bathroom are in an open area, which can’t be closed. The sleeping room can be closed by doors and have an airco. Monkeys are around the location, very nice.

The location has a very nice view of the Marina, but it was spoiled during our trip by a big crane and the construction going on. There was a lot of noise and so many lights on the construction sight that it was annoying.

I didn't like that the whole place didn't have AC. Only the small bedroom had AC. I probably would not have booked the place had I known it was open to the outside, no living room wall. It was unsettling using the bathroom with the outside 15 feet away.

The pictures on Booking.com are not the place we were given. I don’t usually pick homes but it looked nice. We stayed in an entirely different place next to the place from website. We left a day early. There were no dishes for a family. The drive to the place is terrible and no way you’d want to walk it.
Thank you very much for your time, but I'm sure you're confused, the photos are exactly the place, in fact most guests rate the place higher than what they saw in the photos, and that's what I'm looking for. . (upon arrival, the place exceeded expectations). About for the dishes (you did not find them) there are 10 flat plates and 5 deep plates, anyway all guests have a customer service number in any case, there is also my number on the walls to in case you have a question . More information in case any of the other guests need anything. On the road to get to the Villa, it is the type of streets in Costa Rica, the one in the hill, apart from being narrow, seems beautiful to me, quite tree-lined, it facilitates access to species such as monkeys and pereses and others, we only hope it does not widen the road hinders the arrival of the monkeys that you say you have seen, the departure time is at 11, we do not pressure anyone to leave earlier. On some occasions we even approve late departures. I don't know where he lost his money. We're sure he wasn't here.

The facility we choose only had A/C in the bedroom, we had extended our stay and chose to stay here close to the marina. The drive to the house was a bit treacherous but we enjoyed the stay.

Verified reviewThe pros- The view is amazing. The location was close to town which was nice for getting places. The communication with Rey was great until it wasn’t. He organized a tour to Manual Antonio park, which was great. After one night, I texted Rey that we were unhappy with the accommodations due to the fact that was not what was advertised (see below), he mentioned that he did have another apartment that did have AC throughout but it would be an extra $100 in addition to what we were already paying for. The cons- The description of this place does not match what the place actually is. It is advertised as “this air-conditioned apartment features 1 living room, 1 separate bedroom and 1 bathroom” and that is not true. The bedroom has AC. The rest of the apartment, the living room, the kitchen, is outside with no AC. Even the bathroom is outside. Because of the heat and humidity in Manual Antonio, we were unable to hang out in the living area as there is no AC there. This place would be perfect for someone looking for a Glamping experience (glamourized camping) as that is what it is like. Also, there is a lot of road noise at night. The kitchen has minimal utensils, the coffee maker did not work as well as one of the floor fans. Only after we left did Rey offer to give us the other fully air conditioned apartment without the extra charge of $100. If you know what you are getting (an apartment that is mostly outside in nature) you would like your stay here.

Verified reviewThe view was amazing. It overlooks the marina and you have an excellent sunset view of Quepos. Beautiful. Rey is one of the most accommodating host i have met.
No provided breakfast. It is difficult to find. That was frustrating.
You didn’t fallow the instructions. No WhatsApp, No waze, no google maps. how were you supposed to get there easily?? At no time have we offered breakfast, it is not break and breakfast.
