How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe accomodation was clean, with plenty of space and nice facilities. Daniela was super sweet, welcoming and helpful! A really beautiful person! I was so grateful! I loved the availability and kinnes of Daniela, cleanness, space, the relaxed athmosphere and the facilities and fun walking-distance. There is a short supermarket round the corner, a bakery, a car park, and plenty of bars 5-minutes walking distance.

Verified reviewThe place surprised me. Real hostel. I stayed at the private room, it was huge with a nice bathroom. At first sight the street and the outside appearance isn't good. But inside the place is nice, comfortable, the bedroom was good and the staff (Roberto and Alison) were amazing.
The demand to pay for the air conditioner. Great that At night the city wasn't warm! But it were would had been terrible to sleep.

Share space small and couches in very bad state, but manageable for a short stay. The A/C is turn off at 7 am. Very hot place in general without it.

It is a small place and air doesn’t circulate well. We were sweating so bad in the dorms even with the fan on so the smell wasn’t great. My mattress and pillow smelled a bit bad too. But for the price it is fair value I guess, even though I went to an other hostel in Quepos for almost the same price and way better. But it is near everything so that is really practical. Bathroom was clean.
Dear Jennifer, thank you for your feedback. About the smell, we use aromatic softeners for our Linen that some guests can’t tolerate due their culture where they’re used to neutral smells. ( it might be too smelly but we’re pretty sure not a bad smell as you mentioned) Maybe you’re talking about other guests corporal odor where sometimes guests due their cultures ( Or we don’t know why) their hygiene isn’t the best and turn the dorm in something really smelly and it gets worse when they hang their dirty & smelly clothes inside the room ( Which btw is totally forbidden inside the rooms 🚫 - they don’t respect this rule even though There’s an open space area where people can hang their clothes outside ) All this, Causing bad smells but not because of our cleaning, because we always leave the room perfectly clean but sadly we can’t control our guests hygiene/ corporal odors because it’s a SHARED DORM and sometimes it’s something cultural. No matter how much we try, or how ventilated the room could be, it’s simply impossible to control it. And as a traveler too, this is something that you must deal with, when you travel on a budget and share Dorms and it happens all around the world. Thankfully, this is not something that happens often but it’s something we’re working on. Also, in the email we sent you once you booked. We informed you that we are working with low season rates. Where you paid $13 for a shared dorm ( yes, it’s a ridiculous amount for a touristic place like this and where the average rates for dorms are from $18 to $20 per night. ) Of course with this ridiculous rate it’s impossible to add AC included in our rate. But we open the option of pay the extra fee for the AC ( $ 15 split in 8 person) or switch to our 4 pax Dormitory with Aircon included Because we know it might be too hot or too much people in our 8 pax Dormitory, or not all the guests want to pay for it. But the option is There for those who need it. So people have the option to pay the extra fee but as you and other travelers, NO ONE wants to pay extra , which we totally understand but people should know they should book according to their budget and Needs and when you travel on a budget you must open yourself to experiences like this. We have been hosting people since 2016 and trust us, we are the most affordable and place in town but it’s sad when people don’t appreciate and just complain just like if they were paying for a fancy stay( which by the way there’s plenty of options in Quepos & Manuel Antonio ) it’s ridiculous how people who normally pays even $60 $90 for a shared dorm in their countries but complain when they come to CR and pay $13 Per night ( I know it’s ridiculous). Please, please, PLEASE book according to your needs and BUDGET. That’s why we offer options for all needs and specially for ALL budgets. So please for future guests, make sure you book accordingly and if you think you can’t deal with things like this we invite you to book our Private rooms with AC or our Studio. We wish you all the best 💛 ¡Pura Vida!

Verified reviewThe location is great, right by the bus station, supermarkets, and the city. The owner is super nice and chill, was really helpful with questions. Very cheap.
The hostel is very small, with a tiny common area, small kitchen and small barred balcony. The private room was ok but the dorms smelled of mold and the set up was very tight.

Verified reviewThe shared area and the balcony were very lovely. The owner was always available via WhatsApp and contacted us before the check-in to make it more comfortable.
Unfortunately there wo no towels included, so bring your own towels. It was quite hot in the room, so we paid another 10 Dollars to be able to use the air conditioner.

Verified reviewI don’t understand why this place has such a low rating - it’s very close to the bus stop, clean, has a well equipped kitchen and comfortable seating areas. The supermarket and atm are 50m away. The owner is very receptive and gives clear instructions how to find the hostel.
