How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewArno is a cheerful and welcoming host. The grounds were amazing - it was like being in the jungle without having to go there, with the bonus of a variety of wildlife. We got to see a troop of monkeys scampering through the trees while we floated in a clean and refreshing pool, as well as strange looking squirrels and birds I've never seen before. The breakfast was delicious, satisfying and reflected the cuisine of Costa Rica - fresh fruit, rice and beans, as well as protein (eggs, sausage and yogurt). We did splurge one night for the dinner and it was totally worth it - delicious with great flavor. We also really enjoyed the privacy of our room and the deck. One of the best features of Chez Nous is its location - very close to one of the most lovely beaches in Costa Rica: Carrillo Beach. The water was warm and the sand was soft. The waves were just right, and there was shade provided by the palm trees along the shore. For $20 you can 'rent' a 10x10 canopy and two chairs for the day, perfect for tourists. This is a beach frequented by locals, and while there were some vendors, it was very different than the beach at Semana, a few miles down the road.
Oh...the rooms could have been better maintained...doors stuck, drains could be slow and it would have been nice to have towels refreshed....but it was clean, and the important things needed for comfort (air conditioning, wifi, a good bed and hot water) were very adequate and dependable. The kitchen was functional enough for our needs, but we did not do much cooking. We greatly appreciated the fridge and the microwave. The price enabled us to stay there for 6 nights, so these minor issues were very livable. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Thank you for taking the time to evaluate my establishment now, I would like to give you my opinion regarding you dear little Sarah when we have a budget of 52 dollars for two people including breakfast and I offered you a King size bed television air conditioning living room bathroom with hot water cold water, what would you experience little Sarah in London. You would have nothing maybe not even a garage so please a little respect and do not judge people like that. You do not know the importance of your words. So next time pay a little more and then maybe you would have an establishment worthy of your benefits. Have a good trip and hoping never to see you again friendly Arnaud.

It is set in a picturesque garden and hosted by the charming Arno and situated by a beautiful beach. The food deserves a special mention - evenings in particular were some of the best food we have had in Costa Rica.

The apartments and the premises need repairs and more cleaning. Everything is very simple. You have to consider the price, which is very low and if you want more luxury, you have to pay extra and go to another hotel

Verified reviewI love how close it was to the beach. The price was superb for the location, the breakfast and the season. The food was AMAZING! Please order the soups. Everyone was so nice to us, we enjoyed the company of the dogs, cats and the staff of the hotel. We really wanted to chill in the pool as it looked relaxing , but unfortunately we got the flu so we couldn’t swim. We stayed at a bungalow that had an amazing view to the trees and we were lucky to see monkeys!
The room has all the necessities but they maintenance in some areas. As the property is too close to the beach (great plus?) the humidity of the coast gets their way into the room specially in the bathroom (I would suggest a window to let the airflow). The room was really cozy but the floors need maintenance as well as some tiles are loose and tilted but it is fixable.

DIY feel and a bit worn down. Staff removed a long nail for us that was sticking out. My daughter cut her foot lightly where the decorative pool tiles come off. Aircon only reached half the cabin. Very dark rooms. Some lights not working. It was OK, but we didn't feel that comfortable.

Verified reviewWe liked the space in the room, the pool, the traditional breakfast and friendliness of the staff. Also the fact that the owner often tends guests himself. The hotel ist pet-friendly, so our golden retriever lady felt comfortable as well. Also to mention is, of course, the closeness to the beach, - it's literally 5min footwalk away.

Verified reviewThe property was in a nice secluded location the owner was a fabulous chef and always positive in attitude. But there were too many maintenance problems that needed attention.
The walkways were dark and overgrown with dangerous ramps here and there. The room was basically open to the elements and critters cockroaches and ants were out when the sun went down. Our shower was incredibly screwed up I had to repair it as best as I could. The room was ridiculous the kitchen took forever to open the sliding door we tried to leave it open but the air conditioning could not keep up with the extra load. The toilet would run constantly I would fix it every morning the sinks were just plain dumb you could not reach the taps. The hot water was sporatic. The pool was a welcome relief but it needed paint the neighbouring pool was green and a home to clouds of mosquitoes.
Hello Marc, sorry for taking so long to respond but I have kept you very busy, let me now interpret your rating of 1 which seems completely inappropriate to me. I think this note comes from Madame and not from you sir because you have been a very attentive, charming man, but Madam it's another story when you make a reservation for 11 days and you really don't like the place no you don't stay six days, you leave directly and there you get a refund even if you had asked me, I won't see any refund after 6 days but the real reason for leaving was that your friends had rented a house in Samara and that you had the offer to spend the rest of your stay with your friends who also came to have a party in the swimming pool on the last afternoon where you drank glasses of white wine with glass glasses which is strictly forbidden in a swimming pool so I hope you had a great end of trip with your friends in the house they were right but don't say that my hotel was so disastrous, it is true that I am not the Marriott but for the price I ask customers. I think the value for money is excellent and in the event that it really was in such a disastrous state, you could have left the same day upon arrival at check-in and I would have refunded you I hope that you are well and above all a big hello to Mr. Marc who was a charming and adorable man, goodbye.

Verified reviewThe hosts are super friendly and the restaurant and breakfast is good. The garden and swimming pool are really nice and we liked to sit and relax there. It is close to the beaches. The service is totally fine and good fibe.
The humidity is high which makes it often hard to get a good climate in the room, That we have seen more, which we understand. But the room and the kitchen was neglected and not clean and that is something that was a shame because the place further was nice.

Room and parts of the property are in serious need of upgrade but this is reflected to some extent in the price
