How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewRoom was interesting with a little kitchenette and a huge terrace which was beautiful. The hotel grounds are huge with multiple restaurants. We liked the El Avion restaurant and it was better value than many other restaurants we saw in the area. The pools are beautiful, especially the adults-only one with an amazing view. The hotel is close to Manuel Antonio but you still have to drive there.

Verified reviewWe had a lovely room which was cleaned daily. Staff were very helpful. There are several restaurants owned by the hotel which are accessible by walking.
On the pricey side for drinks etc but to be expected

Verified reviewThe wildlife at the hotel is incredible! We saw capuchin, howler, and squirrel monkeys, as well as a sloth that came all the way down to the ground—right on the property. The hotel is also ideally located near Manuel Antonio National Park and the beach.
Breakfast is not included, and all the on-site restaurants are quite expensive and cater mostly to tourists, which makes the overall cost-benefit less appealing. The resort is divided into different zones, but a main road runs through the property. If you plan to walk to the beach, be prepared for a steep uphill climb on the way back. The swimming pools are small, and pool towels are not provided.

Verified reviewIt was in a great location. We saw so many animals from our deck and hotel near the beach and busses.
Quite hilly but good exercise.

Verified reviewThe room was spacious and comfortable. We loved the sea view from our balcony. The cleaning service was very efficient. We had an incident with the kitchen and it was fixed right away. Having a little kitchen, microwave and fridge was very handy.
The noise from the road leading to the beach and manual Antonio park and the swimming pool area -quite depressing due to bad maintenance. The kitchen board is too small. Not possible to place a plate. N es to juggle to prepare something to eat.

Verified reviewBeautiful view, lovely room. Great facilities, look forward to visiting again. Nice people, plenty to do without car. One of our new favorites. Good food close by. The E area Adult Pool is spectacular. Monkees, toucans, iguanas and sloths abound.
Door auto lock / room key issue. Must plug key into air conditioning for it to work. If you walk out the door to sit on the patio, the door automatically locks and we were locked out. The neighbor called management, but they would not help, we had to get in the neighbors car, drive down to the office (our gate was locked) to get a key. It may be better to offer two keys and tell the guests that the doors are auto lock.

Verified reviewWe stayed in the adult area that was really peaceful and had wonderful views. The room was comfortable and spacious. The staff were helpful, the free shuttle to their restaurants was helpful as the hills are very steep. The adult area is peaceful though the pool gets full around late afternoon. I would recommend the restaurant a few minutes walk called La Terrezza the food is excellent and the ambience is modern so a refreshing change from Costa Verde. Having a kitchennette is really handy, and you can also order food from their restaurants which is very handy The jungle surrounding it is wonderful, we saw sloths right outside our room and the monkeys are such fun to watch
It is a bit dated and the decor has so much of the wood in every part of the huge complex and restaurants it gets a bit OTT. The food is ok but nothing amazing (pizzas are very good though). And across the three restaurants the menus are quite similar so it gets a bit dull. And as others mention it's very steep to get to the beach
It’s very important for future guests to consider that the Manuel Antonio area is located on a hillside. This natural elevation provides stunning views and close contact with the surrounding jungle, but it also means that some walking or stairs may be involved when moving around the area or heading to the beach. At Costa Verde, we offer five different restaurants, each with its own atmosphere and menu. From wood-fired pizzas to traditional Costa Rican dishes and seafood specialties, our aim is to provide a variety of dining options that suit a range of tastes.

Verified reviewVery unique property with lots of interesting restaurants, ocean views, lots of animals. Especially El Avión. The fact that they provide free transportation to the different restaurants located along the road.
The fact that they don’t allow kids to enter the “adults only area” was an inconvenience because our room (2 adults and one child) was in a separate area as my parents’ room, so then my daughter couldn’t even go to see the room where her grandparents were staying. Also the breakfast options could be expanded.
Future guests, please note that in this particular case, the guest was informed in advance that the rooms they reserved were located in completely separate areas of the property — one in the adults-only section and the other in the family-friendly area. The reservation was accepted with this information. Our adults-only area is designed to maintain a peaceful atmosphere for those seeking quiet and relaxation, which is why access is restricted to guests 18 and older. We kindly encourage future guests to take this into consideration when booking, to avoid misunderstandings in case of similar situations. Regarding breakfast, we appreciate the feedback and are continuously working to improve variety and options.

Verified reviewThe ambiance was lovely. It felt like I was staying in a private cabin in the jungle.
One large towel only. There should be a minimum of two. One for your hair and one for your body. The liquor and wine bottles as lamp shade were ok dotted around, but by the bed it looks tacky
Dear future guests, Please note that we provide one large towel per person as part of our efforts to minimize water usage and reduce our environmental impact — a small but important contribution to sustainability. At Hotel Costa Verde, we’re deeply committed to reuse and recycling. Millions of bottles are discarded into the ocean every day, and we believe that even small actions matter. That’s why you’ll notice creative touches throughout the hotel, like repurposed bottles as lamps or other reused materials — including entire aircraft that have been transformed into unique spaces. We appreciate every opinion and continue working to balance comfort with environmental responsibility.

Verified reviewUnique character to this hotel, with whole or partial aircraft in amongst the tropical vegetation. The adult-only pool and decking has a unique and exceptional vista with views across the coast all the way to Manuel Antonio National Park. This is a truly exceptional location, where we spent many an afternoon hour sipping excellent freshly made fruit smoothies from the bar and watching the never ending display of wildlife (be it an entertaining troop of squirrel monkeys, orange chinned parakeets or even Scarlet Macaws flying past). Note that children have to be 17 or over to accompany parents to this pool location; ours were older than this, but I am aware that those with younger children had more limited locations.
Not really a grumble - but the walks between locations at the hotel can be very steep (sometimes ridiculously so) - which can be slow work in the humid heat - but its a smile price to pay for paradise.

Verified reviewThe location was great and the facilities at the resort were very nice (pool, trails, beach access, etc.)
The room was dated. The HVAC system only ran when you were in the room with the key so the room felt humid and muggy. The bathroom door would not stay open and slammed shut which made the bathroom even more humid. For the price per night, I thought the room could have been nicer.

Verified reviewWe had a room with an outdoor kitchen in the adults only section . We had superb views of the coast and National Park . While the room was smaller than the one we had booked the view compensated for this . The hotel was close to the National Park ( the walk would have been difficult in the heat ). The adults only pool was quiet with great views from its terrace . The grounds of the hotel were pleasant with wildlife around . We even spotted a sloth .
Due to its size and sprawl over a large area it did feel somewhat impersonal. There were no personal or friendly touches to the place . Our outside fridge was raided by animals in the night . We had not been told about a fridge lock when shown the room .. it was all too rushed and impersonal . It would have been so easy to put a warning in the room about this . Care needs to be taken in the choice of rooms at this hotel . Many have no view .

Verified reviewProperty was amazing set in the side of a hill with lots of vegetation that provided shade and beauty. Lots of monkeys right on site and even some sloths! Quick jaunt downhill to the beach. Lots of restaurants on site that they will shuttle you to, or many others to choose from a short walk away. Rooms are eclectic and fun. Our efficiency unit was small for 4 people for a week, but we made it work. Kitchenette is handy and well stocked with dishes and utensils for its size. Loved our outdoor entry - complete with table and 4 wooden rocking chairs.
Careful if cooking on the induction stove. The pan handles get really hot and there are no oven mitts! It is set on a steep hill - so there is some steep climbs both ways.
