How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewJessica the hostess was a lovely person and very helpful! The little cabin was secluded and surrounded by rainforest. Friendly dogs on the property. There were ants (expected - it’s in the forest!) so ask Jessica for sugar and supplies that she doesn’t keep in the cabin. She was so sweet. We had toucans and an owl visit us in the cabin.
We suggested that they install a small microwave in the kitchen. The WiFi went out but that was due to a windstorm, not Jessica’s fault, and she got it fixed.

Verified reviewThe apartment is very spacious, and goes around in a circle. Feels like you are staying in a small jungle. Jessica was very friendly and nice and her dogs kept us company for some hours when we arrived and the next day before leaving. It is a lovely farm, spacious, where you can spot lots of birds, leaf cutter ants and even the odd scorpion or tarantula. Felt like the proper introduction before our trip to Monteverde.
It can be a bit noisy with wildlife at night.

No one here to greet us, hard bed. No one here in the morning to pay and gate locked, so we are stuck here, waiting for someone to let us out
I’m very sorry about this situation. I waited for you all day yesterday, and I didn’t hear or see you entering the property, so I marked your booking as a no-show. I apologize, and I can tell you that this is the first time this has happened to us. I almost always share a coffee with my guests, and we chat a little. For us, communication with our guests is very important. I appreciate your feedback and will take action on it, possibly extending the check-in time.

Verified reviewWe liked the experience, it was quite interesting. The property is located on the plantation, so it is very silent surrounding, if it is not raining. It is nicely done with some traditional touch. And has enough utilities and space. They also have a nice cute dogs :)
It was very difficult to find it, especially in the darkness (would be nice to have some sign). But with the help of the host we managed it :) The roof is not sound isolated (just a metal sheet), and it was raining the whole night. So if you have no earplugs and it is raining, it might be a rough night :) Everything was quite moist. And there shower for me was a bit too cold.

Verified reviewThe location, with good weather could be nice to go around in the nature
The place was so humid that the sheets in the bed were wet! As well as our clothes in the bags and the ones that we were wearing, the towels that we used for one shower couldn’t dry. For the same reason and uncleanliness there were pans and kitchen wood utensils completely full of mold! The shower wasn’t warm, and being always raining and cold, this was obviously unpleasant. The WiFi completely stopped to work after half day and the host didn’t care to fix it. The road had many trees that felt for the storm and we had to move them to be able to go even for groceries. We are people that adapt to many different places and situations, but it was so uncomfortable that we decided to leave one day earlier, without having our money back.
I imagine it wasn't such a good experience, but our town was going through a storm, and of course the weather is out of our control... as you mentioned, there were fallen trees and I explained the Internet problem due to the same fallen trees and breakdowns in the communication lines (I reported it to my Internet service provider, Kolbi, and I also had to wait because the situation was out of their control). I also explained to you that I couldn't refund the money, since that day I would have to pay it to booking even if you didn't stay (and that's not fair)... What did hurt me was that part of the trust I have with my clients is not charging from the first day, but letting them get comfortable (and you told me that you loved the cabin and that if I could wash your clothes, which I couldn't do due to the weather, the clothes wouldn't dry, I have it written in a WhatsApp message) but on the last day I had to yell and go after you because you wanted to leave without paying and that's not how you play... We, who lend our facilities for you to enjoy, work hard and invest money and time that is never recovered, but the satisfaction we feel when our clients feel good in the place and enjoy it, is enough to feel happy with the work done, but there are situations that are out of our control, when it has to do with the weather or service providers, I'm sorry but we can't do anything. My recommendation is that you investigate before you go to visit a place, as everything is stated on site. I'm very sorry that you won't enjoy it, but remember that everything is an adventure when traveling outside or within our country, and they are also unforgettable memories of what you have experienced, the important thing is to see the positive and beautiful of the moment, that a few small things don't overshadow the great experience and visit to our site.😉🇨🇷🐜🕷🐇🐒🐶🐱🌻🌺🌞🌧🌈
