We had a wonderful stay at Kalaluna in Drake Bay. The location is perfect – just a short walk from the boat station, which makes arriving and leaving very convenient. Danny was incredibly helpful, arranging our trips to Corcovado as well as the boat transfer from Sierpe, which made our stay smooth and stress-free. The Bistro was such a highlight that we ended up eating there three nights in a row. The food is a bit more expensive than other local spots, but the quality more than justifies it – fresh, authentic Italian dishes that were some of the best we had during our trip. The rooms are quite basic, but they have everything you need. The bed was comfortable, and while the shower can be a little temperamental, it just takes a bit of patience for the water to make its way up the hill. We stayed in the Morphan room and the view was absolutely breathtaking – waking up to that scenery was unforgettable. Overall, Kalaluna is a great place to stay in Drake Bay, especially if you appreciate good food, helpful hosts, and incredible views.

Best food in Costa Rica! And the hotel location is amazing-directly in front of where tours meet in the morning. Excellent customer service from John the waiter, Claudio the chef, and Shirley the owner. Danny from reservations was so helpful too. They took great care of me. The property is so cute! Shuttle/ taxi can be arranged with a very friendly handsome local named Jefferson.

Great location next to where the boats pick up and drop off, very friendly owners, restaurant on site is good and popular. Bedroom had aircon. It was not luxurious, but it was comfortable all we needed for a one night stay before heading to Corcovado national park.

Located on the beach! Next to a school. Very safe. Drake bay very safe no hustlers. Shirley told us about the nice beaches about 25 minutes along a beautiful costal/rainforest trail. Super nice. Super clean. Excellent balcony view. This is a family owned bistro with only a few rooms. A hidden gem. Bistro was def best food in drake bay.

It is not a complaint about the property, Drake bay beach it is on is not swimable, the excellent cocalito beach is 30 min hike away. It is a very pleasant hike Personally I’d prefer closer to that beach and more tucked away

Non-Potable Water-This may be a Drake Bay thing but I had not encountered it in CR. No Mini-Fridge in the room. I like to have cold water/drinks. A mini fridge would have allowed us to buy bottled water instead of going down to the restaurant to fill our water bottles. The stairs down to the restaurant and beach are steep and different sizes and can be slick during the rain. We were super careful but if you have any mobility issues this would not be a good place to stay. Wi-fi is spotty in the room. They need mesh repeaters

Family of 4 stayed in 2 of the 3 cabins. The cabins were beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The views were amazing, sitting on the rocking chairs on the balcony was perfect, air con was appreciated too. The location was really convenient as the trips depart early in the morning and the boats/ferries depart straight from the beach close by and the rest of the village is a short walk away. Shirley gave us a choice of a good breakfast each morning and a reservation in the restaurant if needed, she also booked us the return ferry in case it was busy.

Shirley and Claudio are lovely hosts and excellent chefs. The room was large, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The view from the big balcony with rocking chairs is great. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Little slippery way down from the bungalows if rainy - not ideal for elderly people I guess.

Feels like coming home - Shirley and Claudio make you feel welcome and relax in minutes. The location is top - leaving the boat from Sierpe and you are in front of the entrance, still no boat noise/smell, long lonely beach in front, playground that can be seen over from the great hotel restaurant terrace - the food is with no doubt the best in Southern Costa Rica (Italian cousine following Claudios roots). View from bungalow terrace is spectaculous - animals all around you plus you can take the hotel private path up to the hotel lookout to oversee the bay and wildlife. We felt so comfy that we extended our stay immediately after arrival.

The beds are pretty hard, which can be good or bad depending on your preference.

Shirley absolutely makes this place! I've traveled quite a bit and I've stayed in a lot of hotel/lodges, but I've never met such accommodating hosts! Our luggage was temporarily lost when we initially arrived, it was a whole fiasco, but Shirley and Claudio took care of the whole thing and coordinated with the airport for us. Claudio is a fantastic chef and I would highly recommend making dinner reservations. I genuinely cannot say enough good things about Shirley and the rest of the people working here, they were all super kind and made our stay here very enjoyable. Our room was pretty basic but it was very clean and had a great view from the balcony. There's no A/C but each bed had a fan so it wasn't really an issue.

Provide an excellent breakfast everyday. Three separate bungalows with balconies and chairs for sitting outside. Hot water showers with fresh linens. Beach access right across the road where all the boats arrive for excursions. Management arranged water activity, snorkeling, etc, along with transportation to Drake airport. Staff was very friendly and helpful

Great house, beautiful inside decoration, amzing view of the oceon from balcony and bed. Right by the pier and easy accessible. Not to forget the amazing chef, Claudio made fantastic italian food, could not have been better Germany. The whole team is amazing.
