Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustriaThe bathroom could use a remodel as water wasn't draining around the sink and there is no shower fan. Also, our room (#3) was very close to the street and traffic noise from cars and motorcycles outside was very noticeable. I would recommend Freddy's place for solo travelers or couples looking for an inexpensive place for a short term stay.
Freddy is a wonderful host and made us feel welcome during our entire stay. He or another family member was always there when we needed something, e.g. hot water for tea, utensils, etc. Freddy gave us insider tips for things to see and do in the Monteverde area. He called ahead and made reservations (including shuttle pickup) for zip lining at the national park the very next morning. The Wifi was fast and reliable. And the breakfast every morning was an absolute delight, with fresh fruit and a choice of (huge) pancakes, a hot breakfast wrap, or eggs any way you want, all nicely decorated and a visual treat as well. Additionally, there is street parking if you're traveling by car. Several restaurants nearby are within walking distance if you don't mind climbing up/down a steep hill.

United KingdomFreddy is such a lovely man - kind, friendly and prepared to go out of his way to make our stay the best possible. He got up early to make breakfast in time for our early tours and accommodated a vegan diet. He moved our rooms so the two couples in our party could be next door to eachother. The location works well, with a short walk into town.

IsraelThe hotel has only 2 parking spaces - when full, we had to park on the street, which wasn't convenient. The rooms need renovations. Water pressure in the rooms was low. The city center is only about 1 km down the road, however, as the hotel is on the top of a steep hill, getting back by foot is challenging.
When we arrived, the property's owner, who speaks English, was not there. Instead. a family friend was at the reception. Her English was excellent and she helped with everything we needed and wanted to do. The rest of the staff were very friendly, but they didn't speak English. Our rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was nice and good. The rooms have refrigerators, which was very convenient.

United StatesFreddy’s is at the top of a steep hill. If you have a car or are doing tours that pick you up (almost all of them), then no problem. It’s really just a consideration if you are walking into town a lot.
So many great things at Freddy’s! The family is super helpful and helped us book activities and dry our clothes when we got caught in the rain. The breakfast is delicious and made to order. We loved the banana pancakes!

United KingdomThis is a great place to spend a few nights in monteverde, it would be easier with a car as it's up a hill from Santa Elena but there's plenty of cheap taxis if not. Freddy was a great host, helped us with anything we asked and the breakfast was a really good quality. Miles better than most hotels

CanadaGreat location and he gave us great recommendations. We can't think of anything negative for the price here.
Fantastic breakfast and extremely kind, honest, helpful owner. One member of our group left his wallet at the hotel and Freddy sent it all the way to Samara. When we said we didn't know how to pay him, he said it's okay if you can't find a way to pay me. You can just give the money to someone who needs it or to a church. This is a very good man!

United StatesOur only issue was the motorcycles zipping by at all hours and the discotech playing loud music until late. However, we were there during Semana Santa (Holy Week/Easter weekend), which is a big celebration weekend, so it was probably noisier than usual.
Freddy is wonderful! He was so inviting and helpful and gave us great recommendations for night tours and places to eat. He even greated us with some much needed coffee. The room was bright and clean and cool. I loved the little sitting areas on the balcony. The breakfast in the morning was not just beautifully presented, but tasted AMAZING and the coffee is fantastic! It's off the main drag, but still very close to shops and restaurants. Bonus: There's an emerald toucan nest in the trees across from his property. If you see a little hole in one of the trees by the fence, take a minute to watch. You might just see a few!
