How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe hostess was very accommodating; I had to change my booking dates and there were no issues. Cindy and Massiel were very friendly, and responded immediately to a WhatsApp message. They came in and cleaned and were very approachable. There were plenty of towels, and the condo itself was very nice. The condo is very close to a pulperia and the Soda Garabito, both of which were excellent.
There was a leak in the bathroom ceiling that dripped right over the toilet. They were aware of it before we arrived, but didn't tell us about it in advance. When we asked about it, they said it was scheduled to be fixed next week and they would have to rip the whole ceiling out to do the work. We stayed for a week, and the leak got worse and worse. Every time you used the bathroom, you had to wipe the ceiling water off the toilet. And then it would drip on you while using the restroom, so I started wearing a towel as a cape every time I sat down. Not ideal. But the water was gross and I didn't want it to drip on me. Over the week, the leak grew and started dripping in more places. It got really old.

Edmund, we are sorry you were not happy with your stay. Our staff is amazing, they greeted you, and they always asked if you needed anything. Costa Rica is a very simple place, not filled with luxury, but love and kindness. You may be used to luxury, our place is very affordable and cozy and we specialize in giving our guests an amazing time, and we are always thrre if you need us. You say that there was a leak in the bathroom, didn't we come in within the hour and fix it?? We are also sorry that our guests were enjoying themselves and a little bit loud, it was a family enjoying themselves poolside. Our guests love the cozy environment and feel like home. You say our place was not clean, but upon arriving, you singed a document saying everything was clean and in working condition. We are sorry we did not meet your requirements. We hope you will find another place that will fulfill what you are looking for. We apologize again for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Wishing you an amazing, Happy New Year. Verified reviewThe staff was soo nice. They were very respectful and kind. I had left my keys inside a couple of times accidently and they didn't hesitate to make sure to come and open my room in a timely matter all it took was a phone call. They were very helpful with toiletries and anything I needed. The place was VERY well located walking distance from main street. It was quiet and safe.

Verified reviewBreakfast was not included. The location was OK. The beach is a 10 minute walk away. There is a nice pool in the court yard.
The kitchen was a bit too small and the noise from the construction on the hotel next door started at 6:30am! A bit too early. No way to sleep in at this place.
Hello Berm Thank you for staying with us. we are sorry about the construction. but we had no control over what happened on the other property, we did ask then to please be considered and start at 9, which they did and apologized as well. Our condos were named "My Cozy Condos" for a reason. They are cozy, not huge... but they have everything in there that you need on a vacation, as well as a fully equipped kitchen that had a six burner top, and a huge stove along with backing goods and many extras, it has everything in there, more than any hotel that will ever supply you. Our condos are family-friendly and very elegant with a low price. That is why we book out quickly with 80 % return of our customers. most people on vacations don't want to spend hours in the kitchen and cook. Verified reviewGood ventilation in the unit, water pressure and heating worked great. Host was also very responsive when we needed help with the heater. Impressed with how well stocked the kitchen is (cutlery, appliances, kitchen ware), this will definitely be a good option for longer stays. Small families will also be comfortable here. Not too far from the main tourist street in Jaco too.

It was a dump. So tiny that we were falling over each other. The toilet was broken and would not flush. After a hard rain, the walls were leaking and rain came in and leaked onto our bed.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you. We can not control the weather in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is trying to fix all their drainage to accommodate all the tourists. and when it rains and floods, this can happen.
