Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesOne of our favorite places in Costa Rica. We love interesting places and Cecropia is all that and more. The road it is an adventure, but don't let that get in your way. If you want asphalt and four lane roads, then Costa Rica is not for you. Dinners and breakfast were very delicious. We were concerned about the distance from La Fortuna, but it was worth it and we would make the same decision when visiting the area.

The ecolodge is very quiet, far from town, in the middle of the forest. Paradise is near. Many many Thanks to Noelia. She is so nice for everybody. She knows how to cook for your health. It's very good. We kept in memory a unforgetable souvenir. We highly recommand this adress.

United StatesThe only minor issue was the shower temperature—it was cooler than expected. We were told it was warm water, but it still felt a bit chilly, even in the warm climate.
We had an incredible stay! The food was absolutely wonderful, and the staff were exceptional—friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about both the land and the animals. You can feel the care they put into everything they do. Our room was spacious, spotless, and perfectly private, with a large, comfortable bed that made it easy to relax after long days of exploring. One of our favorite parts of the stay was breakfast on the terrace, surrounded by nature and the colorful flurry of birds at the banana feeders. We added nearly 20 new birds to our life list just during breakfast over the course of the week! Highly recommend for nature lovers, birders, or anyone looking for a peaceful and authentic getaway.

United StatesMy family and I have traveled across different countries and lived in various places over the years, and this was one of the most unique experiences we've had. The location is perfect for nature lovers, as it is nestled right in the forest. The hosts are professional, kind, and clearly passionate about nature and what they have built. The dinner we had one night was delicious, and the night tour was simply amazing.

This is one of the best accommodations I have stayed at in all of my years of traveling. Noelia and Jay, the owners, make sure you feel welcome and provide excellent service throughout the stay. It is an amazing reforestation project that is brimming with life. We really enjoyed the walk along the trail there and just relaxing in nature. They also serve delicious breakfasts and dinners. Important: Make sure to have a 4WD, because a normal car will struggle to get you there. If you have a regular car, you can park it safely 1 kilometer (0.6 mile) from the property (exact location: 10°18'54.9"N 84°34'52.8"W).

CanadaCecropia Ecolodge exceeded our expectations. It isn't just a place to sleep, it's a place to explore, to learn (not only about yourself but about the natural world around you), it's a place to truly channel that pura vida energy, and all of this was possible for us because of the owner, Jay. He's an incredible host and always doing the most! If you have the opportunity to stay here, please take part in the night tour - it was truly one of the many highlights of our trip; we learned so much about the jungle and it's hidden wonders! Breakfast was always so delicious and they were incredibly accommodating to my partner's celiac disease and provided gluten free alternatives. Overall, we had an incredible time here, what a special place. We will never forget it!

United StatesThe dirt road is long and requires an SUV. It is also almost an hour away from the fortuna's tourist attractions if that is the only thing you are looking for.
Big property which you can spend a lot of time enjoying natue flora, birds and fauna. If you dont want to stay in a tourist trap area, this place is perfect. However, it is not too far from tourist attractions if you want to spend some time visiting the attractions. The service was excellent!

United StatesProperty located about an hour away from the center of La Fortuna. The road up the mountain was rough and requires an SUV.
Private guest house located in the rainforest with beautiful trees and flowers around. Bird watching in the morning while eating breakfast was amazing. Saw many different birds from hummingbirds to Tukans up close. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere with super helpful and friendly hosts J and Nohelia. We had freshly home made typical Costa Rican meals for breakfast and dinner. Hosts are very knowledgeable about the nature and places to visit. Gave us excellent recommendations for places to eat and enjoy in around La Fortuna. Great people and love what they do.

United StatesHow thankful we are to have selected Cecropia for our first three nights in Costa Rica, although it’s hard to imagine we could match it anywhere else! The peace and quiet amongst the lush rainforest is therapeutic in itself but, added to that, the interaction with our hosts, Nohelia and Jay, made it so much more interesting and enjoyable. Nohelia is very knowledgeable about all the incredible birds that visit, not just in the mornings, but throughout the day. Jay was our guide for a night walk which was fascinating. The many trails are well kept and the breakfast and dinners were healthy and delicious.

GermanyNohelia, Jay, and their team have truly created a corner of paradise. They are exceptional hosts who make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. It's clear how much effort, love, and passion they pour into everything they do. They take the time to genuinely connect with their guests and go above and beyond to cater to individual needs. The meals are a highlight—delicious, healthy, and hearty, made with fresh ingredients sourced directly from their garden. Every bite feels homemade and thoughtfully prepared. The lodge itself is a stunning blend of a forest and a botanical garden, teeming with wildlife, especially birds. It's a nature lover's dream. I highly recommend the night tour with Jay—it’s an unforgettable experience. Nohelia is incredibly knowledgeable about the area and Costa Rica as a whole, always ready to offer helpful tips and advice. One thing to note: the lodge is accessible only with a 4WD vehicle, as the last 3 kilometers of the road are quite rough. However, the journey is absolutely worth it. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Ecolodge Cecropia. If I could, I’d rate it 200%. Nohelia and Jay are truly wonderful hosts, and they’ve created a magical place that’s not to be missed.
