How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewStaff were great. Particularly Daniela our concierge and Clarence, who was an amazing guide. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. Restaurant food was very good and staff were excellent/lovely. Good cocktails too. Room was clean and comfortable, especially the bed. Setting was amazing. Walter the driver of the shuttle service is brilliant. Liked the choice of products for the room, welcome drink and departing lunch bag.
Room need a bit of modernisation. Despite being advertised as adults only - we were surprised to see children: one dinner there were 2 very young children eating in the restaurant- one child was standing on the chair and crying at 8 o’clock in the evening - not what we expected!
We are delighted to know that you enjoyed our privileged location, the comfort of your room —especially the bed—, the quality of the restaurant’s food, and the attentiveness of our staff. We're particularly pleased that Daniela, Clarence, and Walter helped make your stay even more special, as warm and dedicated service is at the heart of everything we do. Regarding your comment about the room, we are surprised to hear this, as we are consistently attentive to detail and upkeep to ensure a high-quality experience. Nevertheless, we truly appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as part of our ongoing improvement efforts. Concerning the presence of children, we would like to clarify that Gaia is an adults-only hotel, and we only accept guests aged 13 and above. However, our La Luna restaurant is a public space open to external visitors. In accordance with Costa Rican legislation, we are not allowed to restrict access to minors in public areas such as this. That said, we do everything possible to ensure our guests enjoy a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere throughout their stay. Thank you once again for choosing Gaia. Verified reviewThe room was lovely; well furnished, with a comfy bed and a nice sitting area. The setting is beautiful and the personal service was terrific. The staff was really great! Our personal concierge, Gary, went above and beyond to contact us before we even arrived, to help us plan activities in the area, and to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They packed a breakfast for us when we left very early one morning, and even let us pre order breakfast so we could eat before we left for the airport.
The bathroom layout was weird. Long narrow, with two huge sinks and no counter space, but a lovely shower.

Whilst there was a shuttle until 4 pm it would have been good to have act so could explore more food options . Whilst the other restaurants are not far away there are no paths so cannot walk safely at night

Pool needs a tidy up and gym is a long way from the hotel.

Verified reviewThe hotel and staff were magnificent. We had made a mistake withour booking and the administrator/manager rectified it with no cost to us. Our Concierge, Jose Gamboa, was astoundingly responsive and helpful. We had a tour with Clarence who was the friendliest and most informative tour guide we've ever had. All in all it was a wonderful trip and stay. We especially liked the fact that the hotel is helping to bring Macaw's back from endangered status.
I honestly cannot think of anything to make it better. Maybe stairs along the driveway leading down to the parking lot but that is more of a "would be nice" item than something that is needed. The golf carts and staffs were always available to meet our needs going in and out.

Verified reviewThis was the 5th hotel that we’d stayed in on our honeymoon Costa Rica travels. I can honestly say the stay from start to finish was the best I’d ever experienced. We were greeted with much help and a refreshment at reception. Our concierge, Catalina was extremely helpful and helped us with any questions/needs. The rooms, studios and grounds are perfect… the hotel has its own reserve with trails so wildlife is on your doorstep… beautiful to wake up to. All the staff are soo friendly and go above and beyond to help you with any of your needs… Johnny makes the best cocktails… Abraham is welcoming and helpful with luggage/golf buggy drop offs and pick ups. He is also informative for local amenities for travels. Although the hotel has everything you need and the food is out of this world… breakfast, lunch and dinner. Totally recommend the fine dining menu with wine to compliment each dish. Verified reviewLocation, literally a 5 star service offered from the staff, private concierge, ready to help for any issue or request. Food is good, service in the restaurant is great. The view is nice.
The fact that the hotel is VERY outdated and in the pictures looks like “ the ultimate luxury destination” which unfortunately it is not, because despite the service is 5 star, the hotel facilities are very outdated and need renovation. For this reason, the price they charge is too high and not reasonable. It would be reasonable if this was a modern well maintained hotel. Everybody is super nice and for sure you will have a good time, but things could be better in terms of facilities.
