The only thing that was a bit of a disappointment was the "mud pool". For some reason we thought it was going to be bigger. It was raining so we were not able to utilize anyway so not sure if that made a difference.

We came to this hotel for the first leg of our trip in Costa Rica. We loved the hotel and the tranquility of the area. It is in a somewhat remote area next to the national park, which was part of what was so great about it. Yet, it still had wonderful amenities and activities to choose from. We rode on horseback to one of the waterfalls, which was so much fun and the waterfalls were beautiful. We also explored the hot springs, plus spent plenty of time in the pool.

Too many potholes on the roads. They need to be fixed.

Loved all the activities that were available. We did the tubing, the horseback riding to a waterfall, the mud and hot springs, and the national park hiking trails. We also liked to all the waterfalls and ponds. I highly recommend you don't skip any of them. I wish I had time to do the zipling and canyoning.

Everything closes early, at 10:00 PM. Would have liked a more lively night life, but more of a wellness/hiking/outdoor adventure vibe.

Beautiful property and accommodations. Great food, pool, restaurants and included breakfast. Amenities are exceptional with access to hot springs, waterfalls and adventures right outside the door. Staff are amazing. Would definitely recommend if you are in this area.

Breakfast was good. Plenty of options though my daughter with an egg allergy had a hard time finding some options.

Some staff reception was not very friendly or helpful, which was a first after 10 days in Costa Rica.

We've stayed here basically because it includes the access to many interesting places close to the National Park, and those are worth it when included in the stay; paying for the access to the Oropendula waterfall + Rio Negro + the other waterfall + the blue pools in a family of 4 is ridiculously expensive, but when included in a one night stay it is well worth it. This being said, the room was comfortable and clean, the breakfast was good (the pineapple and the banana bread were ridiculously good) the majority of the staff was nice and helpful.

After dinner there wasn’t much to do. There is a limited menu on property and nothing within close driving distance. We didn’t rent a car and the shuttle around should have had more options to move around more efficiently. The activities (mud bath and spa) were not within walking distance to the guest rooms.

The activities on property were awesome.

Breakfast was included with our room; however, lunch and dinner were pricy. If you want to have food in the room make sure to stop at one of the grocery stores on the way. We visited during the rainy season, which meant there were ants in all of the facilities we stayed in during our trip. Hacienda Gauchipelin handled pest control better than our other resort on the beach. We were fortunate to only see ants on a counter at the front of the room where we stored our dry food items. We had to be very diligent about keeping crumbs picked up and all food sealed. Ants are typical for Costa Rica and not the fault of the resort. They do have a very small (by American standards) mini fridge.

We had a fantastic stay! The breakfast buffet was delicious, and we loved the onsite activities, waterfalls, and pool. Our room and bathroom were VERY clean, and it was a nice touch to have drinking water provided in the room. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Important tip: You must present the same credit card used to book the room at check-in. If you don’t have it, they’ll refund the original transaction and charge a new card in person. Visiting in early June was amazing—no crowds anywhere! We had beaches, waterfalls, and even some restaurants entirely to ourselves. Many of our tours ended up being private since we were the only ones booked. We experienced short afternoon rain showers most days, but they didn’t interfere with our plans.

The breakfast buffet was delicious! It was wonderful that everything was gluten free for my gluten-sensitive husband. The room we were in had enormous king size beds which was perfect for our family. We liked the option to use the hotel shuttle to get around the property to the various sites as we decided to turn in our rental car.

The roads for going to the waterfalls and the hot springs are not well-maintained.

The resort is at an amazing location, in the lap of nature. The rooms are quite spacious and offer all amenities. I needed an electric kettle, and the staff was kind enough to provide that. The breakfast buffet was amazing. It was widespread and everything was of good quality.

Dinner in the main restaurant wasn't anything special. My chicken was quite dry. Quite a bit of confusion with our order as appetizer arrived after main course. The main waiter apologized and offered us a complimentary dessert. Good PR.

Excellent place for many adventures! Hotsprings were fabulous as well as the Waterfalls. One could do as much or as little as one wanted. Well marked paths and informed staff. Excellent breakfast with many choices. Left my tablet in our room and was informed by the front desk they would keep it for me, great service!

Enjoyed our three nights. Room was very comfortable, spacious with great views over the garden. Breakfast selection was excellent, though very busy with service for tea/coffe/juice slow at times as this wasn't part of buffet and was served at table. Evening food good with reasonable prices, but timing for restaurant bookings not flexible, either too early or late. Canopy bar much better as no reservation required and nicer surroundings. Very disappointed with Thermal Springs, crowded with tours and large loud groups. Hotel pool was much enjoyed and beautiful gardens with lots of birds and wildlife.

The volcano was not as close or large as expected but that’s my fault really!! Lol dumb Canadian. Haha

The location and activities and food and staff were all supreme! We had a 10/10 experience for our 2nd honeymoon in Costa Rica! I especially appreciated the 100% gluten free menu at all food venues! (I have an anaphylactic allergy to gluten and was able to fully relax and enjoy the food for the first time in my LIFE while on holidays!!)
