Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe recently had the pleasure of staying at hacienda las vainillas, and I must say, the standards of cleanliness and attention to detail were truly exceptional. Every corner of the hotel was immaculately maintained, creating an atmosphere of absolute perfection. While we greatly appreciate the care and professionalism that went into every aspect of the stay, I did find that the environment, though flawless, felt a little too controlled and structured for my personal taste. It almost lacked the warm spontaneity that makes a place feel vibrant and alive. That said, for those who value impeccable order, pristine surroundings, and a peaceful, predictably serene experience, Hacienda will undoubtedly exceed expectations.

United StatesNothing, we really enjoyed everything about our stay.
Hacienda Las Vainillas is one of the most exceptional places that we have ever stayed. The property itself is absolutely stunning - a gorgeous hacienda with traditional architecture surrounded by lush green jungle and a lovely view. There are many inviting spots to lounge and relax and also a very nice pool to enjoy - it's the kind of place where you cannot help but relax. The hosts, Frederique and Phillipe, are warm and welcoming hosts. We very much enjoyed Frederique's home cooked meals (especially the desserts featuring the property's own vanilla) and the good quality wine offered by Phillipe. Our four year old daughter accompanied us and was made very welcome. There are a number of activities available on site or nearby and we chose the beautiful waterfall hike, which was a highlight of our time in Costa Rica. A gentle and patient guide, Byron, accompanied us and kept our daughter engaged by finding little frogs and other items of interest for her to marvel at, and we had a wonderful time swimming at the private waterfall pool. If you're coming from the Pacific side it's recommended to have a 4x4 for the drive. The location is a little remote, and for us this was a huge plus after the busy tourist scene at Quepos. If you're looking for refined relaxation in a beautiful natural setting that feels like the "real" Costa Rica, then you'll enjoy a stay here.

Canadahis place is truly heaven on earth. We loved our stay so much! The owners are extremely caring, attentive to every detail, and very welcoming. The property is beautiful—photos don’t do it justice. We saw so many birds, frogs, and even enjoyed the company of their wonderful dog, Perita. We also did the vanilla tour and absolutely loved it! We learned so much about how vanilla is grown and the different types available. Our stay was fantastic, and the food was the best we had in Costa Rica—absolutely delicious. Initially, I had some hesitations because the hotel seemed to be located in the middle of nowhere, but don’t let that stop you. We actually enjoyed the drive to the hotel. The road is a bit bumpy, but that just added to the adventure, and we loved it!

United StatesPlease be aware that arriving from the Pacific coast, you'll need 4 wheel drive to reach the Hacienda for the last several miles.
Breakfast and dinner were fresh and delicious. Every detail, from architecture to hospitality is beautifully arranged. You're nestled in the mountains and the views are wonderful. The pool is excellent. We loved the fascinating tour of the vanilla plantation and the strenuous but totally rewarding walk to the waterfall.

United KingdomMagical. Beautiful setting with magnificent views. The owners went out of their way to make sure we felt at home and showed us around this amazing hotel they had built. We only stayed a night but with more time you can explore the many trails and waterfalls on their estate. The road to the hotel was unmade but that was no problem, just slow.

GermanyNo mosquito nets around the beds, which ended up being ok as there aren't many mosquitos but this might be something that may be added. I personally expected a little bit more of the culinary experience but this didn't stop us from having the best time.
Beautiful beautiful hotel that invites guests to submerse in the beautiful jungle of costa rica and enjoy stunning views of the hills. I can highly recommend this for couples, singles as well as families. Our host was key in making our experience so beautiful.

DenmarkNothing could have been better! The only "drawback" is that it is highly addictive to stay there. We booked two nights but ended up staying 4 nights!
A truly magical experience to stay at Hacienda Las Vainillas! Extremely peaceful, amazing views and wonderful rooms and facilities. Frederique and Phillippe are very kind hosts, cooking wonderful meals and arranging trips into the forest to swim in waterfalls on their land. On my top 3 list of best accommodation experiences during 30 years of travelling.

United StatesThis place is like a paradise on the top of the mountain! We enjoyed beautiful view of the rain forest while recovering from the hustle and bustle of life! The building is well build and rooms have high quality furniture. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious. Sparkling clean. Frederique serves exceptional food of various cuisines along with delicious french deserts!!! Frederique and Phillipe are amazing hosts. Tour of the property was exiting and educational. We observed how vanilla, cocoa, coffee are cultivated. We were impressed by the large variety of rare orchids. In the forest you can swim under a waterfall. We had great time bird watching just from the terrace. We will definitely try to visit again!

Costa RicaA divine hideaway in the middle of a forest that covers as far as the eye can see. For kilometers around there is nothing else than this beautiful country house in which every detail has been taken care of, and which is reminiscent of Colombian colonial haciendas. Frederique and Philipe's attention is warm and welcoming. Absolutely recommended. 👌🏼

United StatesThe only possible drawback is the long drive on a dirt road to get there. Our rental car handled it well, so it was not an issue for us.
The location was fabulous -- on a hilltop overlooking solid rainforest. The food was prepared with care, both tasty and healthy. Frederique went to great length to make our stay interesting and comfortable. All questions were immediately answered. It was warming to be hosted by an owner who is obviously, and justly, proud of her hotel.

CanadaNothing.
The hacienda is a wonderful and peaceful place to enjoy the mountain and the views. We stayed two days and the hosts, Frédérique and Philippe made our stay a beautiful weekend to remember. It is a lovely new hotel, beautifully decorated, very comfortable and the meals are included and were very tasty. We really enjoyed the vanilla plantation tour with Philippe and the water falls he took us to see on their propriety, soooo refreshing! And we saw a few toucans and red macaws near the hacienda. If your are looking for a comfortable and quiet break with a view, don't hesitate. They can also organise hikes on their land (it's big) or on the nearby national park with a guide if you want a challenge.
