How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLettika and the super friendly team helped us with our tour reservations. The property is very comfortable, and those gardens are wonderful. The last day of our stay was filled with monkeys. Highly recommended.

Verified reviewMATAPALO is an absolutely wonderful place to stay, with a friendly Dutch owner. The entire space is tastefully decorated and clean. In front of my room, I could relax in a hammock or by the pool, where I not only got a free towel but could also make coffee or tea for free at the nearby bar. The property is surrounded by beautiful trees and shrubs that create a cozy atmosphere—and if it weren't for the amazing beaches, I could have easily spent the whole day there. One morning, while enjoying a great breakfast (you can choose from three types), I saw a sloth with her baby settle into a nearby tree, which just proves how peaceful and tranquil this place is. I highly recommend it.

Verified reviewWe love the Jardin de Los Monos. It was quaint, tastefully decorated, and very private. The breakfast was incredible and we could hear the beach from our porch. We will for sure return!
We loved every part of it!

Verified reviewImmaculately clean. The owner and staff are professional and friendly. It is conveniently located between Quepos and Dominical. It’s a very quiet location, perfect for resting up for your next excursion. Plenty of monkeys, sloths, and macaws to be found in the garden and nearby. A short walk down the lane and across the street and you are on the beach.

Verified reviewWe loved this place! We came for a relaxing break and it was perfect. We were greeted by Teddy at the gate in the pouring rain and he handed us umbrellas. Breakfasts are fabulous. You can spend time lounging by the pool or in the hammock outside your room. You can walk to the beach which is super close and wander along the shore for ages. And it’s peaceful- except when the monkeys come to visit and bounce around on the roof ( but this is a high light). Teddy made reservations for us and helped us with some bookings and Letikka ( our host) provided us with lots of helpful information. We would definitely recommend!

Verified reviewThe name of this lodge its really how it is: a wonderful garden where we could watch whiteface monkeys and even a sloth directly in front of our room. You can relax on sun loungers at the swimming pool or go to the beach which is just a short walk away. The host Lettika and her staff are very friendly. For breakfast there are different options and all of them were delicious.

Verified reviewAn amazing place to stay with wildlife present in the actual garden! Sloths, monkeys, hummingbirds, lizards, etc. The staff (Teddy and Dama) are fantastic. Teddy is very informative about the animals and locality. Dama makes the best pineapple smoothies. Letika is very welcoming and helped us book the local supper club. Our room was a good size with air-conditioning and was exceptionally clean. The beach was 2 mins walk with beautiful sunsets with crabs, pelicans, etc. The sea was rough, but we were able to get in. More suitable for surfing. We would highly recommend it.

Verified reviewBreakfast was good but with limited options. Very close to the beach. Quiet. Jardin well manage. Staff was friendly.
More options regarding the breakfast.
Thank you for staying with us and happy you liked it. I am sorry that you found the options limited, we are always trying to search for an add on but till now with options we have and within the options you have choices to mix and change everyday we think it should be good enough. Also being a small B&B and not a big hotel with a restaurant, the more options we offer the more food we need to waste which we do not like to do. Hope your remaining stay in Costa Rica was also nice. Greetings, Lettika

Playa Matapalo is 500m away and you can walk along it for miles watching Pelicans fly by and Scarlett Macaws. We saw sloths and monkeys at the property. Verified reviewEverything. Delightful stay, the visiting monkeys and kinkajous a lovely bonus
The range of options for meals lunchtime or evening was a bit limited.
Dear Roy, Thank you for staying with us and happy you had a delightful stay. Playa Matapalo is still a 'hidden gem' and luckily not so developed, therefore the options for restaurants/sodas are limited within a short walk 2 restaurants and short drive limited to about 10. And of course many more restaurants in Dominical which is only 15 min drive from us. All the best and maybe see you back one day. Greetings, Lettika

Verified reviewBeautiful, clean property. Great location across from the beach. Excellent facilities including pool. Every little thing has been thought of. Nice to see monkeys and sloths close by.
Not so much that we didn’t like this but we just felt there were a lot of signs and posters around the property and room, related to rules and regulations. We felt it was a bit over the top for an adults only property with an older demographic, where the majority of people are going to do the right thing.
Hi Nicole, Happy to read you had a good time with us and thank you for your feedback regarding the regulations. You would think indeed that being an adult only it should not be needed but unfortunatly after running the B&B for more than 10 years it every season it shows it is needed and even then it still happens. I don't like it either, but this way we can keep the areas as clean as possible and nice for everyone to enjoy. Greetings, Lettika

Verified reviewSuper friendly owners and employees (thanks a lot to Teddy!). We felt almost like in the rainforest with plenty of animals (like Sloths) around us. Beautiful beach within 2 minutes walk. Cozy and clean pool. Good restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes drive (a car is required in this area).

Verified reviewAbsolutely amazing stay! We were here 3 nights but I could have stayed longer. There are so many activities within a 45 minute ride from here that we barely got to enjoy the pool, the peaceful garden and sitting area or the breathtaking beach where it’s just you and the birds. Breakfast was delish! Teddy was super helpful. Lettika helped us with scheduling our excursions. The rooms are very comfortable, including spa like bathrooms. Top notch! We went rafting and zip lining, visited Manuel Antonio park and playa and Ballena national park. All worth the time and colones.
Thank you Cathy! It makes us very happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us so much. It was great having you here and hope to see you again someday.

The host is lovely and we saw sloths, monkeys, and birds in the back yard. The breakfast was made with love. You will need a car to get around but a few restaurants are close by. We would definately come back!

Verified reviewDuring our stay in Costa Rica, we spent nights at 6 different hotels and this one was easily the best. This place is like a nice little haven in a peaceful town close to Quepos and Manuel Antonio. The facilities were fantastic and I could go on and on about how comfortable the beds were. We got to see many sloths in the area and the beach is stunning and peaceful - a very short walk from the hotel. Also the breakfast was like going to a restaurant - SO good!! Just as the website says, I only wish we had planned to stay here longer. I also honestly couldn’t believe this place was so reasonably priced for what you’re getting.
N/A - I have no complaints
