Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We had a fantastic time here. The place is peaceful and so beautiful! We were in the chalet “experiencia” where it feels like you’re sleeping in the forest but you’re protected inside (lot of monkeys in the forest 😍)! Best breakfast we had in a long time! Everything is homemade, organic, healthy and also it varies each morning. Betty and Jessica are the best, it was a 5star service, they are extremely helpful and nice. They offer multiple services: laundry, massages, guide, a cook that comes over prepare your dinner, etc. We asked to have dinner there, a very kind lady came over and cooked a fantastic dinner. It is very well located not even 5min from Cahuita. Thank you Betty and Jessica, for sure we will come back.

United StatesA few more salty options for breakfast would be nice:) and maybe a WhatsApp contact to communicate after 6 pm (just in case of an emergency). But these are minor things in what was one of the best memories of my time in Costa Rica.
It is a paradise in the middle of pristine forest. It is an experience like no other. It is easy to go to town and return with Uber. What a special place! So so beautiful. And the cats are just adorable.

AustriaThe bed linen was a bit dirty (stained). The journey to the accommodation is a bit challenging (which makes sense since it is located in the middle of the jungle).
Very nice place in the jungle! Super nice staff and owner! Good breakfast included.

United StatesThere are many things to love about La Shamana Ecolodge: The natural surroundings are beautiful and quiet with the execption of the birds and howler monkeys. The buildings are also beautiful both in their construction and decor... I loved the colors and fabrics used in the room we had! Breakfest was delicious and varied each morning. The night walk was exceptional with a very knowledgeable (especially about frogs and snakes that won me over to reptiles) and all the staff were attentive and helpful. Overall, this is a place to relax and be in nature. There is a small pond with a few long chairs, but not for swimming. It is accessible most easily with a 4x4 vehicle... close to Cahuita.

United KingdomNothing - made Cahuita the best stay of my Costa Rica tour!
This is a correction of an earlier review, which for some reason picked up my unfavourable review of another establishment PLEASE ignore the previous one, which hopefully will have dropped off. I stayed three nights. The Ecolodge is about 2 miles outside Cahuita, the last half mile unpaved. You can get there with 2WD but may be more comfortable with 4WD, if only for clearance. The Ecolodge consists of a central reception/breakfast/dining room, with numerous nearby cabins. Although conveniently close to Cahuita, it is elevated and truly in the depths of the rain-forest, supplemented by careful planting to generate a delightful, colourful surround. The view from my balcony was idyllic, and the sound of the howler monkeys when they passed unforgettable; as was lying in bed listening to a tropical thunderstorm. The spring-fed natural swimming pool is a delight, especialy after a sweaty day exploring Cahuita. It is a lodge, not a hotel, so there is no restaurant. Breakfast is delicious, and cooked hot on an individual basis; and dinner is available if you warn them in the morning or the night before. Staff attend as required, but the owner/manager lives on site and is always available (via WhatApp if she is in town). They were very helpful, arranging massages and an excellent English-speaking and knowledgable guide. The room itself was clean and spacious, with a good shower.

United StatesMosquitos everywhere, to no fault of the property or guide. Just bring repellent. It worked well for us!
Everything was great! We were in the heart of the jungle. We woke up to the sound of Howler monkeys and lots of birds. We saw several animals before even leaving the hotel to visit the national park! Anna was the best hostess and the food was phenomenal! We had a guide name Fofo (Rodolfo Martin) who was the best guide ever! He gave us a tour of the facilities, Cahuita National Park, and San Jose for a very reasonable price. Honestly, I believe we got way more than what we paid for! Ask Anna about him because you wont regret it if you book with him! He spotted animals that even other passing guides didnt notice until he pointed them out. He does kayaking tours as well. The combination of Anna with Fofo as a guide will make you have one of the most memorable trips ever!

GermanyThe ecological Concept of the Lounge meets leisure traveller‘s needs! While a little hard to reach (but not problematic with a car), the Location with the surrounding nature is stunning once you arrive. We stayed in one of the Four rooms in the „Main“ Building (two Single beds) and it was really nice with all the views and sounds. The interior is nicely & convinient designed. You Need to go without Air Condition, still there is a ventilator & the opportunity to Open the Main Windows (still being protected from the majority of bugs through nets before the windows). The beds are cozy, as is the bathroom. Additionally, there is a very good breakfast, with variations over the days (we stayed three Nights). Cahuita & the National Park are by car reachable in under 10 minutes. All Staff were very Kind and helpful. The Lodge has Great Internet connectivity; Hot Water is depending on the solar activities; Additionally there can be Limited Electric Power. All this is desribed transparently in the accomodations Description. In our case, we Never experienced Issues with electricity and/or Hot Water. I can recommend this lodge & would return any time! We had great days there!
