    Road noise

A little gem outside of town with an amazing host. Hummingbirds in the trees and howler monkeys nearby kept us entertained throughout our stay. Great breakfast and lovely, clean pool. Matheo went out of his way to help us and make us feel welcome.

I was traveling with a group of 17 high school students, which could’ve been more difficult, but Matheo and Erina were so helpful- making us very comfortable at the hotel and helping us arrange transportation and activities at a reasonable price. I will be back!

Nothing, except for the little traffic noise.

The gorgeous garden setting, the awesome Costa Rican breakfast with a European twist. The owners go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and knowledgeable about the area. The location is perfect, just a couple of miles from the jungle and beaches and a short drive to the laid-back but vibrant beach town of Puerto Veijo.

Since the place is close to the main road it gets really noisy, which affect all the Caribbean, relaxed, close-to-nature vibe. Common kitchen could be also cleaner.

The place is very nice, cozy and the owners are really friendly. Rooms, even though they are small, are more than enough. Location is perfect if you want to visit nearby national park.

Everybody was very kind and they gave us lots of recommendations of things to do. I forgot my rings in the room and they kindly saved them for me until I returned to picked them up. They also reply very quickly to messages sent on booking and offer to text you on whatsapp.

The size of the room can be a bit small for a family, but you dont travel to Costa Rica for 5* Hotels

Location is awsome, you wake up at 5AM for the howler monkeys shoutings. The owner family is very kind as well. Pool is cleaned regularly. We spent there 3 nights, didnt regret at all.

The hosts create a friendly atmosphere, they are happy to advise on local attractions, gastronomy, etc. Location close to national parks and nice beaches

Like with many off the road properties, the sounds of vehicles passing by can be noisy. Didn't bother us as we have stayed at a number of hotels just off the road and were used to it.

Very thoughtful place, the owner is very friendly and takes pride in her property. Breakfast was delicious!

    -

We had a great stay at El Colibri Rojo and ended up extending our stay to 12 days. The rooms were comfortable with AC, we enjoyed spending time at the pool and breakfast was tasty. The location was perfect for us, since we rented a car and could park at the property. We also enjoyed being just a little out of the hustle and bustle of the centre, which was only 6 minutes by car. Playa Blanca is a 6 min drive as well. The place has a very calm nature and the garden is just stunning. The hosts were very friendly and hospitable and advised us on some tours that we wanted to do, which you can book through them. Cahuita is calmer than Puerto Viejo, which is just what we needed. It’s only a 15 min drive there. And you are just a small walk away from Cahuita National Park, which we can highly recommend visiting. All in all the best place we stayed at in Costa Rica!

Transport back to stay after 6pm did not exist. No taxi available. Had to walk back at night the two miles on a highway. They own two dogs that the first night seemed to bark alot that made sleeping difficult. Second night not as bad.

I thought the accommodations were great, clean etc. Staff were great and helpful. They offered morning commute to town.

Not a dislike, but was further from Cahuita than I realized.

The hotel was fantastic. Check in was a breeze and the rooms and property we clean. It had a nice pool area to relax. Erina and Matheo were fantastic and really went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Especially when I couldn't find my AC remote. 😳

My I initial reaction was to be a Karen because I thought the air didn't work. Mateo was so gracious when I had to apologize! The grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed just relaxing outside We were close to the beach and many good restaurants Great stay.

Position-wise, it is more geared to people with cars as we needed to get into Cahuita for supermarket, beach access etc. but the shuttle meant if you wanted you could get a lift in and walk back through the national park to the accommodation.

Very friendly staff. The shuttle to Cahuita every morning at 8.30 is really useful when you don't have a car. The room was cleaned each day and there was always someone to help you with information. The owners are lovely and go out of their way to sort out any problems or help with travel information / advice on what to see etc. Hot water ad air con worked fine.

The initial room we were in was small and dark with just one window and we felt we had overpaid for what we received. Once speaking to Matheo he kindly upgraded us to the apartment which we was very grateful for.

Once we were kindly upgraded to the apartment we really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was spacious so baby could crawl and play around and was a nice liveable space for our 9 day stay. It is located a walk away from Cahuita National park which we recommend but you will need to pay for a taxi to get into the main town of Cahuita down the main road approx 3000 / $5. The hosts are a lovely French couple who were very helpful and accommodating. The pool and jacuzzi was enjoyable and you are surrounded by lots of lovely fruit plants. A home away from home. Would recommend 😌

    The weather was not great!

Really enjoyed our stay here. The garden and pool (although we barely used it) we're beautiful. Our apartment was great and we enjoyed being there. Our hosts were very friendly and breakfast was an enjoyable affair, cooked in an open kitchen by our hosts. The property was nicely placed about 3km outside Cahuita, which meant it was quiet. You are right next to a national park entrance. The host takes you to Cahuita at 8.30am if you want and you can do the walk (9km, mixture of beach and jungle) back to the hotel. You can book trips through the hotel or you can easily nip into Cahuita and book. A restaurant recommendation is Sobre Las Olas by Gondwana. It is right by the ocean and beautiful. Lovely food too. Enjoy the Caribbean coast. We did!
