How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe open space at the entrance is nice, you have plenty of sofas and tables to relax. Staff is nice and really helpful.
The pool wasn’t clean. The room wasn’t nice as pictures, no wardrobe or place to unfold your clothes, the room service is not available so no one is cleaning your room during your stay. Lastly, to get some breakfast (even if you are the first one to order) you need to wait around 40 minutes. This morning it took them 35 minutes to deliver us some coffe. Overall we think we paid too much for the service offered.

Verified reviewMy son and I traveled on a three week journey around the Nicoya Peninsula in the Guancaste Region and absolutely loved everything we experienced. We purposely saved this boutqiue hotel as our final and last spot and I am so glad we did because it was the PERFECT way to spend our last 5 nights. The location, grounds, boho charm meets costa rican excellence. Javier and his staff ( if you even want to call them staff everyone is like family and treat you the same) took such good care of us and made us feel so welcome and attended to. The even had a sunday pool party with a DJ which was family friendly too and it was a blast! I met so many new people that way. The food ( especially their sushi) was amazing! We love this place and can't recommend it enough! We are coming back in October!!!
Literally the only thing was Mosquitos, but they are EVERYWHERE and it was no fault of the hotel/location/amenities or anything. We just dealt with them everywhere in Costa Rica, but often we were told it was because we were so sweet :)

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our 6-night stay at the Curiol villa. It was a great place to explore all of Guanacaste Province and just a short walk to the beach. The breakfast and facilities were excellent.
We’re so glad you enjoyed your time with us and got to explore the beauty of Guanacaste! Thanks for the kind words, it was a pleasure having you here. You’re welcome back anytime. Pura vida!

Verified reviewCuriol has outdone themselves when it comes to the Boho chique vibe. The setting is beautifully done! Great lounge areas, beautiful pool. Super friendly staff.
We couldn’t quite put our finger on what felt off at first, because it’s clear they’re really trying to create a great experience. But eventually, we realized it felt more like an upscale hostel than a hotel. The rooms are quite basic and very dark, and while the outdoor bathroom isn’t a problem in itself, the mosquitoes definitely are. The staff is kind, but communication can be tricky if you don’t speak Spanish. Housekeeping only happens if you request it, breakfast is very minimal, the music is loud like you’re at a festival (although they change it if you ask for it), and there’s no Wi-Fi in the rooms (too spotty).
Thank you for your detailed feedback and for appreciating our vibe and team spirit. We’re always working to balance the unique experience we offer with everyone’s comfort. We’ll take your comments about the rooms, mosquitoes, and communication to heart as we keep improving. Hope to welcome you back someday for an even better stay. Pura vida!

Verified reviewOne of the bar attendants was very nice
Bathroom is outside which they do not make clear and you get eaten alive by mosquitoes any time you need to shower or use the toilet. WiFi is very slow. Some sort of liquid that looked like bird feces dripped onto our pillows and sheets. Rain leaked under the door. Breakfast took over 30 minutes to make.
Dear Tristan, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely regret that your experience did not meet your expectations. We are constantly working to improve, and your comments help us identify key areas to focus on. Regarding the outdoor bathroom, we understand that this style may not be ideal for everyone, although many of our guests enjoy the natural, open-air design. This feature is clearly stated both on our website and in the room description at the time of booking. We are truly sorry if this information was overlooked or misunderstood. Had we known during your stay, we would have gladly assisted you at reception and explored alternatives, including the possibility of moving you to another room if one was available. As for the issue with the pillow, we can assure you it was not rainwater. It was most likely a small dropping from a gecko—an entirely harmless creature that is very common in Costa Rica, especially in tropical areas like Guanacaste. As soon as we were notified, our housekeeping team acted promptly and replaced not only the pillowcase but all the bedding in the room. Concerning the mosquitos, the pool, and the Wi-Fi, it's important to mention that we’ve had unusually heavy rainfall in the past few weeks—particularly last week. These weather conditions, which are above average for this time of year, can temporarily affect our facilities by attracting more insects, impacting internet connectivity, and making pool maintenance more demanding. That said, we do fumigate regularly, and the pool was treated with the necessary chemicals once the issue was identified. We apologize that it was not in perfect condition on that particular day. We also sincerely apologize for the delay with your breakfast. We experienced a small logistical issue in the kitchen that day—one that was beyond your control—and we appreciate your patience. It’s important to mention this was an isolated incident and did not happen on the other days of your five-night stay. We value your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels. Should you decide to give us another chance, it would be our pleasure to welcome you again and provide a more enjoyable experience. Warm regards, Management Hotel Curiol Boutique & Lounge

Verified reviewAll I can say is that I wish we had stayed here for more than one night. The property was stunning. So boho, so chic! The drinks, the food, the staff, all phenomenal. We were a little apprehensive about staying in a tent, but they come with fans and a little air conditioner! It's quiet, and the staff were kind enough to take our music requests! Would absolutely recommend to anyone passing through Potrero.

Verified reviewThe staff was so friendly, attentive, and very accommodating. The food was delicious. Our lodging was perfect for our family of 5 to feel comfortable and spread out with 2 bathrooms, a kitchen to make meals, and 3 bedrooms. The location was a perfect jumping off place for several different destinations. We will definitely return!
Due to the weather being windy and rainy in the afternoons, the pool had leaves most of the time, but the staff did an excellent job of cleaning it regularly.

Verified review- Lounge area and pool - Nature and vegetation - Bar staff - Nice breakfast in general
- Cleanliness - Lack of room amenities (body lotion, coffee, etc) - Tent zippers not working - Due to open “day pass” to no hotel guests, there was some disturbance during the night.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. Verified reviewThe Curiol Hotel is a real favorite! It’s located slightly off the beaten path, so it’s not caught up in the craziness of the main street, yet it’s less than a 10-minute walk to the beach. The decor is absolutely stunning! You can easily spend the whole day by the pool under the trees, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The room was very comfortable and had air conditioning. The pool is beautiful! The staff is kind and welcoming.
The food at the restaurant isn’t good. I had to send back an omelet because it was drenched in oil or butter. The sushi isn’t great either (too greasy, too much fried stuff!). Watch out for mangoes falling from the trees onto the rooftops — they make a crazy loud noise!
