How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe Units are nestled in the rainforest setting ( we went in rainy season so it rained every night) and was beautiful. We were able to see lots of wild life, Howler monkeys, lizards, iguanas, and butterflies and more. The bedrooms had a air conditioner and that was a refreshing end to the hot day temps. Thomas was a gracious and helpful host. He assisted with recommendations as well as directions to get everywhere we wanted to go. Many of the streets aren't labeled so some areas were a bit tricky. Using the Waze app was super helpful too. The property has two refreshing pools as well. Highly recommend this gem!

Verified reviewThe location was very peaceful and pretty. You definitely need a car if you're staying here but it is well worth it. The host is super helpful and sweet. Loved the coatis and the monkeys! Swimming pools, as everything else, were kept clean and pretty. The paths going around the place are beautiful. The breakfast was good, all the fruit was lovely, well worth the price. The room had everything we could have needed. No bug problems, some ants are to be expected.
You have to drive to town for food but the host is very helpful if you want to order in. The cabin was quite plain but that is of personal taste. Nothing to worry about.

Verified reviewThomas the owner is what makes this place so special. He's extremely kind and helpful, ordering food for us for dinner from the nearby restaurants. The property is beautiful with wildlife and two separate pools. Don't hesitate to book this.

Verified reviewLodge margouillat it’s a must go in Costa Rica. Amazing place held by a very nice owner, Thomas. Very friendly, Cousy and familiar place. Me and my girlfriend love it straight away. It’s not a luxurious place but nothing is missing and everything is well decorated and in balance with evolving nature. The breakfast is good and you get to eat with Quatis.
Everything was great, just a little smell of wood mold on the Balinese cabin.

Verified reviewLoved the property, it truly was in the middle of the jungle and away from noisy roads. Breakfast was lovely (both the food and where you ate it), the swimming pool was really refreshing and we loved meeting the property's adorable coatis!
The cabin where we stayed was very cute, but smaller than we thought, and the bathroom (although private) was outside, which wasn't super convenient.

Verified reviewLoved the casita, pool, breakfast (extra $12.50/person/day) and most of all Tomas, the owner. He was beyond helpful, offering breakfast, recommendations for dining and ordering dinner from local restaurants for delivery to our casita.
The Lodge is truly in the boonies, and given that Google Maps isn't extremely accurate in Costa Rica, it was challenging to find the Lodge the first night.

Verified reviewExtremely friendly and helpful service from Thomas. Lovely breakfast, great view from our room and super swimming pool. Very quiet and peaceful.
Not a great choice of restaurants to eat at in Tambor but we drove to Montezuma where there was more choice.

Verified reviewEverything. The site is like paradise on earth. The staff, mainly Thomas was exceptionally helpful and so friendly and caring with a huge smile and a great attitude. The breakfast is generous and so refined with a great French touch. We also had the luxury to enjoy a great hot shower, which seems to nlbe quite rare in CR. A great hotel that I strongly recommend.
Nothing, everything was exceptional

Verified reviewLocated in a quiet area - very peaceful. We enjoyed driving through a local community to reach Lodge Margouillat. Beautiful grounds - Thomas has created something very special. We were in Tambor bungalow - very spacious; lovely furnishings; wide, comfortable, bed with lovely bed linen; walk-in closet with shelves and hanging space; good-sized bathroom with large shower area; settee, coffee table, chairs and table in living room area; good-sized fridge/freezer (much bigger than expected); outdoor seating in secluded area. Two lovely pools - we made very good use of these. Thomas was a great host and was very welcoming - he gave useful recommendations and we enjoyed our conversations with him. We ate at Al Chile 4 times - good food, cheap, and where locals also eat.
We had 5 nights at Lodge Margouillet. Although the breakfast was good (fruit juice; coffee; toast and jams; fruit - pineapple, papaya and watermelon; banana loaf; eggs - scrambled or fried) it was the same every day. It became a bit repetitive for us - some variety would have been appreciated. We couldn't get any hot water in the shower, though with the humidity there, a cold shower was OK!

Verified reviewThe location of the property was remote, which was exactly what we were looking for to start our trip. Thomas, the owner of the property, was an incredibly hospitable host who made us feel like we were staying with a close friend. He provided us with everything we needed to be comfortable, including towels for both the pool and shower, and other items we may have forgotten to bring. Additionally, he gave us many helpful suggestions for tours, food, and anything else we wanted to know. We had the property all to ourselves for the first day, which made it feel like our own personal oasis. The property boasts two pools - one warmer than the other (best enjoyed later in the evening) and one that was perfect for cooling off during the day. Each day we were provided with breakfast (toast, jam, juice, coffee/tea and fresh fruits).
Nothing, it was exactly what we anticipated and was even lovelier than we had hoped.

Verified reviewLodge Margouillat was an oasis for us. We spent a month in Costa Rica and loved our stay at the lodge. It felt remote and isolated but it was a short drive to beach towns all around the area.

Verified reviewThe Lodge was absolutely stunning. The sheets on the bed and the towels for the pool and bathroom were very plush and soft. The rooms had sitting areas that were private and nestled in the forest. The grounds were well maintained and lit at night. The two pools were beautiful as well as refreshing and very close to our room. I really enjoyed the morning breakfast often listening to the birds or a family of monkeys that enjoy the lodge as well.
It was such an amazing experience it is difficult to come up with anything I didn't like. The only negative is now the expectations for other accommodations have increased.

Verified reviewThe accommodation was stunning and set in beautiful surroundings. The owner took great pride in his accomplishment having built it all himself and deservedly as it really was amazing. We enjoyed the 2 pools and the quiet surroundings and the very private balcony.
Maybe a few more sunbeds around the bottom pool as there were only two and they were always in use.
