Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe lift that arrives directly in the flat is unusual.
Perfect location, beautiful resort, amazing breakfast. We spent 3 nights as a family of 5 with 3 young children (4, 8 and 12). We loved the location, the beach is beautiful, we walked down every morning and came back up with the transport. We loved the free jungle walk with a wonderful guide, we were super lucky and saw all the animals and the free cooking class taught us how to make empanadas. The flat is spacious and has everything a family might need. The pool is wonderful with beautiful sunsets

United StatesWe stayed here in early November. The resort is undergoing significant construction so many of the amenities we thought we were paying for could either not be enjoyed or were simply unavailable. For example, very loud construction that started while trying to enjoy breakfast. When the elevator opened to our suite, there were construction men standing in the elevator (yes, they could enter personal suite when you called the elevator). The bus to the beach was not available because there was too much construction and loud noise after we took the long, steep way down the road anyway. In addition, the jacuzzi’s were closed and they were working on the pool area, caution tape is in most of our pictures. The next day, the caution tape was removed but our child almost fell down the steep cliff since there was no fence. Much of the construction was not only a nuisance but also dangerous. Also, my husband was about to book a fishing charter on his own. Then the staff told him they would book it. They charged us $112 just to make the call to book the charter. They offered to cook the fish he caught and that was $170 to serve our own fish with some beans and veggies. Spa closed too.
The location of the property offers pretty views and is in waking distance to off-site restaurants.

FranceBreakfast was ok but not amazing, the staff were great. The beach was a little disappointing and there could have been snacks at the bar - even if just crisps/nuts etc. We waited an hour for food to be delivered! We were upgraded our first night - due to a maintenance problem - it was ok but for a 3 night stay not ideal and we couldn't get into our booked room until 5pm the following day which was a little annoying. My main issue was with the small outside pool on our balcony. Since the pandemic I think we expect slightly different levels of cleanliness - we stayed in 4 hotels of similar quality in Costa Rica, 2 others had outside bath/pool - both of them were emptied and cleaned between guests. Sadly the pool at Les Altos wasn't and although it was cleaned daily there was no filter system that I could see working and the water didn't move giving an impression of a stagnant pool. I have thought about writing this but I think at the price point emptying the pool between guests isn't too much to ask, and if others are offering it then a similarly priced hotel should follow suit. I really don't want to think I'm getting into someone else's dirty bathwater - needless to say we didn't use it. A shame as really it is the only thing I feel hasn't been thought through properly.
Andy our butler was an absolute gem - and went out of his way to help us with everything including dinner reservations. The room and comfort levels were really good, they are fairly new so to be expected - the bed was super comfy and the view quite stunning. The fact that Macaws fly past at frequent intervals is amazing and the monkeys are also quite a feature near the pool and down on the on-site walk - we even had a sloth camping out close to us for the first night! There didn't seem to be many people about but I think there were. The pool area is quite small but never got overcrowded and the food wasn't bad, service was good :)

GermanyIt was disapointing as I have been chargeed in full, even though I could not come do to flight cancellations. All 5 other hotels that I booked for that trip, did help me to retrieve my money back. This one did nothing at all! They could have charged a penalty and give me a bit back. Nothing!

United StatesThe staff was not great at communications. The rooms need updating, as most of the places in Costa Rica. There was a smell for the AC. The lobby and game room was dark and dingy feeling.
Rooms are very spacious, great for families. The pool area was lovely. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

United StatesI’ve stayed at this property at least six times in the past 5 years with my two little pug dogs. and spent at least $5000 on stays at the property (never an incident). I haven’t been since covid and I guess they changed the rules. when showed up, Los Altos refused to check us in or refund the night I reserved. they were very rude to me saying I should have known the rules. How would I know about a rule change?

United StatesThe rooms are not really updated and they are dark. Coffee machine was a bit dirty, some stains found on bedding but they smelled clean. They seem to be updating a lot so I assume the rooms will be next. When they do it will be a special place.
The pool area was updated and stunning. The views and wildlife on the property was unmatched. We saw toucans, sloths, macaws, monkeys, lizards snakes and so much more. The property offers a free hiking animal tour guide who was incredible. He brought a telescope of sorts to see all the animals up close. The food was also very good here. The drive down to the private beach is pretty cool. Although not really swimmer friendly it is stunning!
