How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewExcellent staff and superb food. The property is set in a remote undeveloped piece of land. There is a lot of wildlife and plants to admire. It was great to have a refreshing pool to swim in after activities. We went on the Corcovado hike and the nature safari; both were excellent. The guide and driver were very knowledgeable. We drove ourselves to the site. A 4-wheel drive is required.

Verified reviewyou're seeking a retreat where tranquility meets exceptional service, look no further! Our stay at this hidden gem was a truly transformative experience. The serene location, surrounded by lush rainforest, provided the perfect setting for relaxation and reflection. Every detail was thoughtfully crafted to offer comfort while keeping us deeply connected to nature. The service was impeccable, with a warm and attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable stay. One of the highlights for us was the holistic massages. They were simply incredible expertly delivered, deeply relaxing, and tailored to my wife’s needs. It was clear that the massage therapists were not only highly skilled but genuinely dedicated to helping guests feel renewed in both body and mind. Another unforgettable part of our stay was our guided tour of Corcovado National Park. Our guide was outstanding knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about the local environment. His deep respect for nature and keen eye for spotting wildlife made the experience truly remarkable. We learned so much about the park’s rich biodiversity, and his insightful commentary added a whole new layer of appreciation for the incredible beauty around us. This retreat is a haven for those looking to unwind, connect with nature, and experience a bit of adventure in one of Costa Rica’s most stunning regions. We left feeling refreshed and inspired. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a peaceful yet enriching getaway.
It could be a little noisy around the hacienda in the early hours, but this didn’t dampen our amazing experience.

Verified reviewVery warm and inviting. Staff knowledgeable and helpful. Good guides and a long list of activities for purchase. Probably best food in Carate and ranks among the best prepared "lodge" meals I've had anywhere.
The upside to Luna is that it's away from the beaches and it's inherent wave sound (noise at nighttime and difficult to hear birds and wildlife). The downside is that you need a shuttle and or drive 15 min from lodge to get to Carate for shore activities (beach, birds, etc). No downsides if you intend to enjoy the jungle experience.
Thank you so much for your comments! We hope we can share the magic of Luna Lodge again with you!

I loved everything about it. There is nothing that I disliked.

Verified reviewThe property is unreal, like a dream of Swiss-family-Robinson style bungalows and platforms perched in the rainforest overlooking the most magical views of primary forest, uninhabited by humans or any development. I could write an entire article on the beauty of this place. Wildlife and humans feel they truly coexist here. Lana and her staff are the most genuine, authentic, loving people and by the time we left after 4 nights, we felt we were leaving a home and community that we had really shared true connection with. The way Lana has created this lodge is unlike any we have ever seen before.
It is expensive per night. But consider 3 absolutely delicious and healthy meals a day, and everything the place has to offer as an experience. Also if you read Lana’s book “Married to Paradise” you understand what went into the journey of making this magical place.

Verified reviewAmazing out of the way location immersed in forest and wildlife - well worth the journey & suspect the quieter side of Corcovado. Amazing staff and local guides, nothing too much trouble. Tents secure from wildlife and great to wake up with the sides raised feeling as if you’re in the middle of the jungle. Pool pleasantly cool and deck area very relaxing with lots to see. A real treat!

Verified reviewThe location is fabulous, you're literally in the forest with a view of the sea. You can't help but admire the effort that must have gone into building in such a remote location, a 2-hour drive from the nearest town. The owner of the Lodge, who initiated this extraordinary project, comes to discuss the project every evening. Beautiful pool Excellent service Excellent restaurant, attentive to every need
When we booked, only the tent option was available, with separate beds. We would have preferred a bungalow with more comfort and space. One evening, there was an invasion of ants in the tent from the roof, and cockroaches in the shower. As a result, we found the value for money to be unfavourable

Verified reviewLuna Lodge is a beautiful place with an amazing staff. The lodge has a comfortable environment centered around a pool and restaurant/common area that sit comfortably in the forest. Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, and monkeys are frequent visitors and easily viewed. Great meals with vegetarian/ non-vegetarian options are included with many ingredients grown on site. We spent 5 days over the Christmas holidays and it was the highlight of our time in Costa Rica.

Verified reviewIf you're after peace and tranquility and an out of the way experience, then this is it. Views from the accommodation and main reception was amazing. Staff could not be faulted from helpfulness, food was tasty and very healthy. Just be prepared for a possible steep walk/climb up to your accommodation.
Nothing. To get the best views, you had to go up the steps. So although it was moderate work, it was well worth it. However the staff did take our bag up there for us, so that was a welcome relief.

Verified reviewThe location and the property was beautiful. The staff was very friendly, and went above and beyond to help – even when we had an issue with our car.
For the first day and a half we did not have hot water in our bungalow. The staff was working on it, but it took longer than expected. Unfortunately, regardless of providing dietary restrictions, on three occasions my wife was served food containing what she is allergic towards.

the bow from our room was the car park and when I booked it it stated parcial sea and jungle views. our room had no fan so it was uncomfortably hot and the lunch option were none with guest given a plate of food without having an option so for example my husband doesn’t lie couscous and that was part of the lunch. the food was delicious though.
