How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSAFE . Awesome Location . Nice people . Clean . Comfy.
They have an an ant issue . I know it’s Costa Rica but … Breakfast assistant waters down the cofffee. They probably do this at home to save money but….needs at least 2+ times the coffee.

Verified reviewMy children and I had a fantastic stay at the Marf Inn! The place was spacious, clean, and cozy, with a beautiful garden that made the atmosphere even more inviting. Our host, Brad, was exceptional—very communicative, welcoming, and truly knows how to bring the space to life. One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. Everything was fresh and delicious—fruit, eggs, and the homemade bread, which came straight out of the oven and paired perfectly with the jam. It was the perfect start to our mornings. I’m already looking forward to returning to experience the restaurant and live music. If you're looking for a warm, relaxing stay with great hospitality, I highly recommend Marf Inn!
Thank you so much. It was a pleasure to host your family.

Verified reviewLocation and price, breakfast was very good tasting. Just a couple of blocks from National park entrance, restaurants, groceries, everything at walking distance.
Entrance is a bit rough on sedan cars, just be careful.

Verified reviewVery close to the bus station, central location. Can walk to beaches, national park, restaurants, grocery store. Breakfast was different than in the photos but still delicious—huge bowl of fruit, juice, coffee, toast and eggs. The apartment was simple but comfortable. Did not have extensive cooking equipment but enough to reheat or make something simple. This place has an amazing water filtration in the communal breakfast area with ice cold water! The hostess was super! Outdoor shower was great and to remove beach sand Air conditioning and fan worked well 😃 I would definitely stay here again
The central location does mean that there is more noise-cars along the road, and one night the bar next door had loud music until 1 am (this was on a holiday so not sure if it happens regularly). There were some ants in the room on arrival, but I have found that to be a very common thing in Costa Rica, I suspect the prior guests had left crumbs out which attracts them. The room was spotlessly clean on arrival other than the ants so that was strange.

Verified reviewGreat Staff, beautiful and clean rooms, and great location. Very close to the Cahuita National Park and Cahuita Town
During my recent stay at the Marfi Inn, I encountered a mix of positive and negative experiences. On the positive side, the hotel staff was friendly and welcoming, and the property was clean and well-maintained. The room was comfortable, and the amenities provided were up to standard, making for an otherwise pleasant stay. However, there were some notable inconveniences that need addressing. The contact number on the booking page connected me to staff in Italy, who were slow to respond to my inquiries, making it difficult to get timely information before my arrival. Additionally, I was informed over the phone that I could pay with a Point of Sale (PoS) system upon arrival. However, when I got to the hotel, the local staff mentioned they were having issues with their PoS system and did not have an available payment method on-site. This led to an uncomfortable situation where I was asked to deposit the money into a personal account outside of the property. While I complied, I did not feel comfortable or safe doing so. To improve the guest experience, the hotel should provide a local contact number to ensure quicker communication and clarify payment options beforehand. Establishing a reliable and secure on-site payment system would also prevent any discomfort or confusion for future guests. With these improvements, the hotel could provide an even more enjoyable and stress-free stay.

Verified reviewThe first thing we want to underline is the amazing breakfast: every morning we got a big bowl of fresh fruit (every morning a different kind of it) plus home made (by the owner) bread, home made jam, home made cake, cheese, ham and scrumbled eggs. Delicious! The apartment was very clean and big, in the centre of Cahuita, 5 minutes walking distance to Cahuita National Park and 10 minutes walking distance to Playa Negra. We really suggest everybody to choose this accomodation run by a family!

Verified reviewThis was my second stay here, liked it. The breakfast is really good, the AC works well, it is really close to everything. The national park is a few mins away. Our apartman was mostly clean, just have a few spots on the blanket.
Some cockroaches run up and down and the wifi was not strong at all.
